That the Tampa Bay Rays went from 66-96 to the ALCS in one year is a nice story, no doubt about it. But as these official team t-shirts prove, they’re a touch delusional.
Conquered a dynasty? The Rays were 7-11 against the Yankees this season. Give me a break.
(Thanks to Can’t Stop The Bleeding, where I saw this first.)

Shut up Tampa Bay.
Very Funny Stuff
this is COMICAL!
HA!
Did I wake up in some alternate world where the Yankees are still a dynasty?
haha that shirt is hilarious
Brett Myers gave up 5 runs and drove in 3 runs.
that must be a joke.
It’s certainly hard for Yankees fans to choose which team we hate the most between Red Sox and Rays.
the dynasty cant refer to the yankees and it shouldnt (yet) refer to the sox
AJ,
No, you may be getting confused with the Red Sox, they are the dynasty now.
This year, I really hope a National team win it all.
Conquered a Dynasty? We’re only 8 seasons removed from one, but if that slogan helps them beat the Sox, so be it.
Jessica – I’m with you. Let’s go Phillies.
Is there anyway that both the Red Sox and Rays can loose?
Well that shirt is pretty funny that it is an “official” t shirt is even scarier. Perhaps they should wait to unveil these untilAFTER the beat them in this series.
On another note just got back from the gym and our second baseman is either trying to play catch up or getting an early start for next season already. Nice to see that IMO.
Someone want to remind them they have a losing record against the Yanks this season.
Lets see how they handle us in the post season next year.
Jeezus, that shirt is lame.
Go Phillies
“Is there anyway that both the Red Sox and Rays can loose?”
This is really funny.
“On another note just got back from the gym and our second baseman is either trying to play catch up or getting an early start for next season already. Nice to see that IMO.”
huh?
If they can get there again next season…..
I think that shirt meant they dethroned the Yankees and Red Sox from the top of the division.
Atle
“AND WE LOST IN THE ALCS TO THE SAME TEAM WE TOOK DOWN”
One can only hope that they take down Red Sox Nation better than they conquer a dynasty because by my calculations, the Rays didn’t exactly “conquer” the Yankees.
And is it ever really a good idea to start printing and selling victory t-shirts BEFORE a playoff series?
How many Sox fans will be at the To the Trop??
“How many Sox fans will be at the To the Trop??”
At least 30,000. Its the only way they could fill the place up.
How many Sox fans will be at the To the Trop??
Rays owner guessed about 5,000 this afternoon.
craig needs a fashion consultant in the worse way
Some quotes from the “Can’t stop the Bleeding” site
” Due to space limitations, the line “…and we did it in absolute privacy†didn’t make the bottom of the shirt’s front. ”
and
“The New Rays Tee : Best Worn Underneath A Greg Vaughn Throwback”
incase you didn’t open the link.
Pull-eze give me a break. I can’t wait until they have to start paying these people on the revenue from their fan base. Hank’s money might not be enough sheltered as it is by the house that Clutchy built
Pathetic. Utterly pathetic. 82 win team next year
No offense I think every yankee fan is a bit jealous. They need to tone down the whine factor down just a bit it really doesnt become you guys.all you guys can do is tip your hat and call the rays your daddy
all you guys can do is tip your hat and call the rays your daddy
I would rather call them something else..but this is a family site, so I’ll just keep it to myself
“Peavy’s repertoire includes the command of several different two-seam fastballs (88-90 mph) and a four-seam fastball (93-97 mph), a hard slider (83-88 mph), a changeup (80-84 mph), and sports an occasional curveball (74-76 mph)……” –Wikipedia
Yeah, Im sure that 97 mph fastball and 88 mph slider won’t translate. Good pitching is good pitching. Trade for this guy with a package of Hughes Jackson and Romine and don’t look back. The three headed monster of CC – Peavy- and Joba for the next 5-10 years would be incredible. You have to give value to get value and the Pads may want Cano instead of Hughes, but I think the contract on Cano is not really what the Pads are looking for. MLBTR reported that he said he’d go to 3 AL teams and it is implied the Yanks are one. Make this happen.
Tampa lucky that went into the stands.
Can someone please tell me where the Rays-Sox game 1 is being televised.
S.A i guess in the end the rays also told shelly duncan where to stick it =X jk.
tbs
over/under on buckets of sweat Youk perspires in the Tampa humidor?
S.A i guess in the end the rays also told shelly duncan where to stick it =X jk.
Where exactly-tell us all
The Rays have a lot of old fans for a team that’s only been around 10 years.
Those are Yankees/Mets/Phillies/Orioles/Cubs/Indians/Tigers fans who retired in Florida and adopted them as their 2nd team.
No different than the fans supporting the Diamondbacks, most are retired Cubs fans.
Do the Rays really have a troll? And are we really lucky enough to have him spending the night with us even though the majority here are rooting for his team?
Shouldn’t they at least get a ring first b4 this kind of talk?
“…most are retired Cubs fans.”
A lot more retired last week
The t-shirt is on back-order in certain sizes! That’s funny. I never liked that color for a t-shirt. “Coastal Blue.”
Just once I want to see Dice-K pay for his walks! Let tonight be the night.
I bet half of the people wearing those shirts couldn’t tell you who Carl Crawford was before last April
Let’s take it easy Chip Carey with the Rays winning the division the next 5,6 years.
And I bet the other half still aren’t sure who he is!
Just got in so haven’t read anything posted since I left, but I quickly want to say
So nice to see Ray players on base with one out. It’s just a matter of time.
GO RAYS!
And oh yeah – THANKS PHILS!
Rays could win the division the next 5-6 years, they need to trade some of their excess pitching for another bat though.
trisha – Phils taking offense to the meidiots who are already analyzing the Sox/Dodgers WS and anointing Torre before the NLCS was even played
They are playing inspired.
Bases loaded, 2 outs and Dicey will probably get out of this somehow
TaDa!
SA -
They can’t hit him. It’s ridiculous.
Man!
The guy lives on the edge. I guess ya hope he’s out after 5 and the bullpen gives it up.
SA this is typical Dice-K. most of the rallies against him are with 2 outs anyway.
his typical line is 5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 6 BB, 7 K
This the inning where Dice-K’s habits come back to bite him, right?
UPDATE: Wrong.
Um, this is the GAME where Dice-Ki’s habits come back to bit him, right?
AHHHHH! Typical Dice-BB.
boooooooooooooo
Does Dice K break out the Gyro Ball tonight? I’ve been waiting 2 years now to see it.
Seems Peavy may waive his no-trade clause to play for Yankees. Maybe…
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/.....y-pla.html
Only in the Rays universe is having a losing record against a team considered “conquering”. Morons. Choosing between them and the Sux is impossible. I hate them both.
Knicks are looking great
Duhon, Lee, and Marbury are dominating
27 pitches in the 1st inning for Dice-the man is a pitching rollercoaster
t-rock – the Phils sure are playing inspired! Hell if that’s what it takes to finally shut up the Girardi bashers (wah wah wah, Torre got them to the postseason. See!) then I’m all for it.
I’m gonna be the lone holdout on the Rays shirt. If it makes them feel good why the heck not. Come on, this is a team that has taken the worst hits in the world from the hideous mouths in the press and they’ve lived being pilloried for a long time. Let them enjoy that shirt, even if it says more than you think it should. They’ve earned it this season. It’s not hurting us.
Hopefully they both lose…muahahahaha
Who cares if we hate the Rays, Theres no question in my mind that would much rather see the Rays win rather than the Flops.
One thing I’ll say for Dice-K. I’ve never seen a better Houdini act in my life. The guy is amazing.
Why do we hate the Rays? Why does the Yanks hierarchy hate the Rays? It’s not like they are going to be competing with the Yankees for merchandise sales, attendance, global marketing, free agents, international signings, revenue, fans, etc. anytime soon like the Sox are. In that regard, they are harmless.
All their success will really do is transform a couple of the Florida bandwagon fans into Rays fans instead of Yankee fans, it’s not like they will develop a global following like the Sox have.
Since when are the Red Sux a dynasty ? Good teams can repeat, something that hasn’t happened in Boston baseball since 1915-1916.
The last team to repeat was the 2000 Yankees and that was a three-peat and not the first time the Yankees had a three-peat. There were 2 other of those along with 2 four-peats and one five-peat.
If you can be patient you have a great game.he throws 90% balls
Neil,
The Yanks are the “Dynasty”. Yes they’re reaching.
Neil – absolutely and unequivocally agree. Every point you made is on target.
chip carey is really annoying hes clearly turn into a rays fan
Most rays fan are bangwagon fans anyways
CLASSY dont mention they broke Cervelli’s wrist. Just show that bs that fits into your story line.
who had the five peate? the athletics right?
Umm but the Rays did not push the Yankees around. They only won 7 games against the Yankees. So much for them coming together with that stupid ST brawl. It certainly didn’t help them have a winning record against the Yankees.
Dice-K has no hit stuff tonight. He won’t get it though unless they let him throw 130 pitches.
cash, even if they are bandwagon fans, at least they are there cheering the Rays on. How sad must it be to play in front of 3,000 people in a stadium that seats 30,000. My happiness for the Rays success is in amounts equal to the sadness I always felt for them when they were treated like the scourge of the league. The interesting part is that they always had very good players but were lacking in one or more areas that would end up biting the team in the butt. One year alone I believe the bullpen had something like 67 blown saves. Just think about how awful that had to be for the team.
Being a bandwagon fan is not necessarily a bad thing. The team piques your interest because they’re winning, you get excited, you start to follow the team. All good. Now, what separates a good bandwagon fan from a bad one is if that original bandwagoner then sticks around when the going gets tough. I would venture to say there are quite a number of fans who started out by jumping on the bandwagon. The trick is, will you stay on?
The Brawl was between 2 guys who spent most of the season in the minors (Gomes and Duncan). Heath Phillips who was released in ST, was the one who threw the pitch at Longoria.
They are acting as if this was the Shields-Crisp brawl. We won 11 of the 18 games head to head, including 4 out of 6 in the month of September. We also went 5-4 at the Trop.
How old is the Rays’ oldest lifelong fan?
10, if he started rooting from the maternity ward.
“Dice-K has no hit stuff tonight.”
Yeah sort of like Dock Ellis except without the LSD.
Dice-K has no hit stuff because he isin’t giving the Rays anything to hit, he is giving them free passes.
Nick –
when I was high schooling in Florida for 2 years, around 1999-2001, no one even heard of the Devil Rays. LOL…
Sabathia stuff . . . http://www.newsday.com/sports/.....301.column
“Dice-K has no hit stuff tonight.â€
yeh so long as hes up to throw 180-200 pitches tonight
Ugh. I knew there was a reason I was unable to root for the Rays to go anywhere.
Obnoxious.
I’ve never seen Friday Night Lights.
Is it really set in a devil town?
I just want to ask CC does he need a XXL or XXXL jersey
We got every type of Yankees fitted for him.
My error. The Yankees didn’t have a five-peat. The first year doesn’t count when figuring the 1949-1953 years.
“My error. The Yankees didn’t have a five-peat. The first year doesn’t count when figuring the 1949-1953 years.”
?
1. 1949
2. 1950
3. 1951
4. 1952
5. 1953
Love those shots from the blimp. Really catches the mood.
I like it.
Please Dodgers and Angels… re-sign Manny and Teix respectively so CC can be ours!! (barring some sheer stupidity from the SF Giants)
mike kotsay is just a winning player
wish we had him on the bench instead of betemit, moller, christian etc.
With the way DiceK is pitching tonight, that run may be the game.
Oh yeh before I forget
2 MORE TORRE STRAP HANGERS !
Geeze Louise, I better get on the stick here.
DICE-K PITCHING A NO HITTER AT THE TROP!!!!!
who was the last guy to throw a no hitter in the postseason?
trisha he won’t get it.
Brandon, we still owe it to the baseball gods to put the jinx on!
Aki keeps giving the ball a ride.
Oh ok. This no hitter is in the bag ! IN THE BAG !
YOU HEAR ME IN THE BAG !
“who was the last guy to throw a no hitter in the postseason?”
Don Larsen.
Matsuzaka has 79 through 5, about 16 an inning. He has become much more economical these last 3 innings, looking untouchable tonight.
But will Francona leave him in on fumes in a 1 run game in the later innings instead of Papelbon?
steve, Don Larsen
holy christ do we really need closeups of youkalis?
Pathetic effort by the Devil Rays tonight. They play against the defending WS Champions in their home turf where they were lights out all season and are getting no hit through 5.
They will never score enough to beat this Sox team. They should have signed Bonds in August.
“holy christ do we really need closeups of youkalis?”
Imagine seeing that after you’ve just finished eating? Believe me you don’t want to.
Anyone else think some of the umps calls to Shields have been called balls when they looked like strikes?
Game over.
D*ce-K with a no-hitter.
Marshmallow Rays.
How many no-hitters have there been in the ALCS ?
How many no-hitters have there been in the ALCS ?
None.
Jas*n B*y for MVP ? Scored another winning run. What a surprise.
“It’s certainly hard for Yankees fans to choose which team we hate the most between Red Sox and Rays.”
sorry, i couldn’t care less if the Rays win. They aren’t even in the same league of hate as the Sox. If the Rays win, I wil be as happy as a clam simply because it means the Sox lost.
Ramirez has hit a record 27 homers in the postseason. His 71 RBIs are second only to Bernie Williams’ 80.
“I’d want to have a guy like that on my team,” Ramirez said of Myers. “He’s going to go out there and battle.”
http://philadelphia.comcastspo.....feedID=693
Manny laying the groundwork for his new team next year?
“Manny laying the groundwork for his new team next year?”
Phillies are too cheap, they won’t pay Manny.
ER, We just have to accept that the Sox have all the mystique and aura now. They lose Manny, the most prolific right handed bat of alltime and revered playoff performer and they replace him with Bay, a 30 year old slugger who has never played meaningful baseball in his career, and they don’t miss a beat.
They lose Schilling for the season and Beckett is pedestrian, no problem, they have Lester and Dice-K, both who are dominating the postseason and both threw no hitters this year.
I’m not even mad anymore, I’ve come to accept what the Sox have become.
Mantle is the post season HR leader. Dont let anyone else tell you different.
Of course, there is no comparison between Red Sox and Rays regard of which team we hate the most. What I try to say is this playoff has been painful for us because we need to choose which team we hate less to advance to world series.
“Manny laying the groundwork for his new team next year?”
Unless the Mets can clone Santana a few times or turn around the worst bullpen in baseball, they better hope not. I think the Dodgers will be hard pressed not to go after Manny, though he’d be best suited as a DH. The Angels could go after him if they lose out on Tex and let Anderson walk.
jessica,
i got ya… go phillies!
Rays rethinking that blue shirt
meanwhile, watching this game is making me sick.
Phillies are too cheap, they won’t pay Manny.
They may let Burrell walk so it’s very possible. Manny and Charlie go way back.
That shirt reminds me of all the 19-0 crap from last year. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
just a disgraceful performance by the rays
they will always be pretenders.
“They lose Schilling for the season and Beckett is pedestrian, no problem, they have Lester and Dice-K, both who are dominating the postseason and both threw no hitters this year.”
dice-k threw a no-hitter??…interesting…
Manny in Citizens Bank? Oh my.
oh yeah…and you guys saying the rays are a disgrace for how they are playin tonight….thats a total joke…they have had an amazing season, and are in the alcs down by 1 run…come on now
When will ESPN interrupt this meaningless college FB game to give us a ‘live look’ at the no hitter? Are they even allowed to considering it is on National TV?
“go phillies!”
me too
“meanwhile, watching this game is making me sick.”
me too
I don’t want to watch Dice-K throw a no-hitter in the playoff.
You have to feel bad for Shields, he’s thrown 6 great innings. Meanwhile the Rays lineup has turned into the 2008 Yankees.
“You have to feel bad for Shields, he’s thrown 6 great innings. Meanwhile the Rays lineup has turned into the 2008 Angels.”
There we go.
“They may let Burrell walk so it’s very possible. Manny and Charlie go way back.”
They probably will let Burrell walk, but Howard and Hamels will go to arbitration. Howard made 10 million this year in arbitration, so, he’ll be at 12-15 million next year. Hamels will probably make about 5-6 million in arbitration. Lidge’s deal goes into effect next year, plus, Myers gets a bump in his contract. The Phillies also will have a Rollins contract coming up. He’s making 8 million a year now. They won’t pay Manny, trust me, I’ve lived near Philly most of my life, and have followed the Phillies as my second team behind the Yankees. They have a 7 man group as owners. They don’t like giving free agents contracts.
how about rooting for dice-k to throw a no-hitter until he give up a two-run homerun?
Ok, a bloop and a blast and we are good.
I would settle for a mere bloop at this point even without the blast.
disgusting how teams just roll over and die for the sux.
9 more outs till the no hitter
Adios no-hitter
Someone want to tell me how it’s not all about the pitching in the postseason?
FINALLY a hit.
9 more outs to preserve the shut out
yes
i think the yankees should make a shirt with that, but on the back
…because of injuries lol
THANK GOD.
COME ON RAYS
now… how about a run?
Congrats D*ce-K.
Though I still find you despicable.
NYYyanks,
You are incorrect. Offense dominates the playoffs. Look how far it got the 2004-2008 Yankees. You must build the team around paychecks and sluggers. No small ball is allowed.
We must sign Tex to continue this tradition. Tex > CC/Burnett. The more sluggers the better.
Woo Hoo here come the RAYS.
9 more outs till the shut out in game 1.
It’s time go to into Red Sox’s not so good bullpen
get some runs here
Rays led the AL in come from behind victories (I think), lets see if they can continue that. This could be a huge momentum swing if they can come back against this Sox team tonight.
Congrats S*x, on your 1-0 win.
Though I still find you despicable.
8 more out till Tek saves Dice-K’s ass.
It says a lot about the faith Francona has with the front of his bullpen if he won’t trust them to get 9 outs.
Once again D*ce-K showing off what a magician he is.
The Rays look like the Yankees. Ever heard of a sac fly?
Dice K = Jaret Wright when he was in Cleveland.
GB7
I will be the first to admit that Boston’s bullpen is not the best.
But I also know that Dice-K is one of the toughest pitchers in baseball with men on base, and I believe that is why he is still pitching right now.
Ugh, I just threw up in my mouth a little.
From NYT:
Gov. Sarah Palin abused the powers of her office by pressuring subordinates to get her former brother-in-law, a state trooper, fired, a investigation by the Alaska Legislature has concluded.
The report says she knowingly “permitted Todd Palin to use the governor’s office and the resources of the governor’s office, including access to state employees, to continue to contact subordinate state employees in an effort to find some way to get Trooper Wooten fired.”
Further, it says, she “knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda.”
ah hahahahahahah hah hah hahahahaha!
Kind of sux to have 3 aces on your staff when you play for the Red Sox…..doesn’t it?
^^^ Thanks for sharing.
I hate the Rays. I hate the Sox. I hate DiceK. I hate this postseason. I hate baseball. Years from now someone will mention 2008 to me and I’ll say how I hated that year and I’ll hate them for even bringing it up to me.
//It says a lot about the faith Francona has with the front of his bullpen if he won’t trust them to get 9 outs.//
Why would you take out your ace after he has only given up 2 misely hits???
I don’t think that has anything to do we no trust of the bullpen.
but if you need to reach far out for something….anything to find something to make you feel better….then be my guest
Gutsy performance by Matsuzaka.
Not getting him may end up hurting more than the non-Santana trade. Both under Cashman’s watch.

Evening, Ray. Yep, he got out of it nicely, but, truth be told, if he had any btter in the pen Matsuzaka would have been gone after the double. As good as DelCarmen and Lopez has been most of the season, I don’t think he trusts them in the big games.
***if he had any better***
and we should hate the 2008 economy too.

Point well made.

I wasn’t trying to diss Matsuzaka or DelCarmen and Lopez, but, I don’t think I saw more than 4 or 5 games where they were brought in with that situation. Francona never seems too take many pitching chances, where he’ll take chances on the bases and offense. I’m pretty impressed with the way Francona has turned out a manager.
I literally can’t name one Crawford in any sport that stands out for something good on the field of play.
Did they count that as a hit or as an error?
It wa a double, Ray.
You know Crawford makes that play EVERY SINGLE TIME against any other team or in the regular season. I’m starting to think the Rays are handing this to the Sox. Disgraceful performance so far other than Shields.
Thank you GB7. And I didn’t think you were dissing anyone in your earlier post.
What the hell was that?
The Dirty Rays again

I knew Rays would melt when they faced a real winning team like the Sox.
They are a paper tiger
Just turned on the game, why do the Rays and the Rays fans act like they are winning and the Red Sox fans act like they are losing? By the way, the Rays can pitch and play defense, the Red Sox can do all that and annoyingly keep hitting. The Sox in 5.
I’m starting to sour on Torre though, guess that means I have to root for Philadelphia. As a Giant fan and Eagle hater, it will be a bit of a stretch, but it’s doable.
Leadoff man on, when does Francona pull the plug?
I wonder do the Sox have the guts to chin music a Ray ?
Time for the Rays to get a few on and Francona to pull DiceK so they can score.
Brandon, not in this tight of a game.
Tomorrow though, it’s on. Beckett will provide the chin music early.
Possible Brandon but obviosuly not tonight with the game being close. Beckett maybe tomorrow night on either Longoria or Floyd.
And wow do the Sox miss Lowell over at the corner.
Kazmir and Beckett are both hotheads, tomorrow could see some real fireworks especially if a team is losing by 3+ runs.
Well there’s the answer, pretty quick yank from Francona. Time for the ‘pen to face the heart of the order.
This has to be the dumbest decision by Terry yet, WTF are you doing DK was actually pitching well out of trouble, you gonna put your BP now ? Are you nuts ?
Okie Dokie time
Youklis made a damned fine play to save a double, but, he still should have made the play after getting to it. Single or error would have been the correct call either way.
I certainly hope this works out for the Rays, but how can Francoma trot Daisuke out for the 8th? Does he not know his pitchers? And will he be bright enough to bring in Papelbon in the 8th if necessary?
2 things
carl crawford is as overrated as it gets
and how does francona keep dice k in this game and not go to okajima/masterson/papelbon to close it out?
Horrible job
Has Dice-K ever made it into the 8th lol? Francona should have either gone to the pen at the start of the inning or left him in to get out of trouble like he always does.
Masterson is a GB machine, automatic DP by Pena. Then bring in Papelbon for 4 outs with the runner on 3rd.
I have no idea why Francona even left him in after the leadoff hit. Masterson is lights out, what is the rational of leaving Dice-K who threw 110 pitches and was starting to get figured out?
I thought Daisuke was a righty?
I’m actually enjoying the cowbells.
what’s with these stupid green lights, the guy cant throw a strike, take a pitch!!!!!!
ohhhhhhh he just missed that, but why turn him loose on a LHP on 3-0 ? This Madden is suppose to be a genius right ?
Second time Bill Madden has done that. Overrated as a manager.
choke job, to this point.
no runs scored??
Pena has been very tough on the Sox and that is the only reason why I would guess he was given the green light.
Ray, how many times has Francona used Papelbon for more than three outs this year?
Maddon’s an idiot, 2 green lights to 2 pitchers that struggle with command.
dbl steal!!!
GB7
Right off the top of my head I would guess around five times?
if ever a first game in a 7-game series is a must, this one is. With Lester/Beckett, scheduled next.
“haha the anger of the Yankee fan is showing. How’s it feel to watch october baseball without your team in it?”
Ask anybody older than you .

game over.

ALRIGHT GO GO
Shut up!, and I know you your that same poster from PSD.
The end is near, the Yankees haven’t won a world series since W was elected in 2000, once there is a new president, whomever it is, the Yankees will begin winning championships again. Hear me now, believe me later.
Longoria makes an out even though Masterson threw him 5 straight balls. Jackass.
mel, no idea
if you are gonna green light on 3-0, why not send both the runners on that clown behind the plate
dont be partly aggressive!
Why are people so surprised? What team DOESN’T lay down for Boston? They have an intimidation and aura around them, teams don’t play tough against them. They forget how to get clutch hits and nobody in the bullpen can get outs. We see this with LA every year, Cleveland last year, now Tampa.
We are the only team that doesn’t get intimidated by the Sox.

Right off the top of my head I would guess around five times?

Thanks, Ray. I found it, and, actually surprised because of all of the talk about not using him for multiple innings.
It was 11 this year, 4 last year and 14 in his rookie year. His rookie year wa the only time he was used for more than 2 innings in relief.
Yep throw more money at them. Hasn’t worked for the last x years. Boston’s payroll is at 130 mil this year. You have to try harder, outperform to compete.
JEFF NJ,
you are right but it has nothing to do with baseball
GB7
That is definitely higher than I was thinking.
why do they have seurity guards posted.
no one in that stadium, is about to storm the field.
Boston forces teams into mistakes and ineptitude, that is apart of their mystique. Winning teams do that.
FINE TRADE HUGHES! THEN MAKE THIS HAPPEN INSTEAD

I’m not being sarcastic, just got a question about Peavy.
If Peavy’s stuff doesn’t translate outside Petco in the NL, how are they going to translate into the AL East?

Me,too, considering the “delicate situation” with his shoulder. To be honest though, only one was 1.2 innngs and the rest were 1.1, but he still had to warm up twice. Wonder if any if those games that got away in the 8th with 1 or 2 outs could have been saved? I know they can’t always do it, but still you wonder.
One more stupid post and I’m posting your PSD SN.
Carl Crawford- OVER RATED
One more.
Oh really ? I can post your exact words I already know who you are and your not doing a good job of hiding it either.
Rays crumble.
wow, an idiot sox fan posting a trade proposal for the Yanks? sheesh….
Stop with the ALL capital letters already.
nice job over-ray-ted chokers. unbelievable.
Ed, he’s a Yankee fan, he’s just an extremely immature one.
The Rays looked doomed in the dugout at the end. They’re going to sink if they don’t snap out of it.
Why is it that Dioner Navarro only hits HR off the Yankees?
Bah! Humbug!
Well this night sucked
Atleast the Phillies won and the Knicks looked good.
Brandon –
what’s his PSD sn? I check out the forums sometimes but just don’t post.
I’m not going to post it right now. That’s if he continues being a you know what..people over there can’t stand him either.
So predictable that the Rays would melt when they saw the Sox in October.
Guys these are the Devil Rays, the franchise that has lost 100 games every year since its inception. The team that has been dormats every year. A team that has no offense either. Did anyone really think they could standup to a winning franchise with proven playoff success and an invincible aura like the Sox in the playoffS?

Okay, gotcha!!
what’s a PSD and sn?

preseason doesn’t matter. the Knicks looked good last preseason while they had a winning record. when the season began, the stunk. 8(
Thanks. And why would it matter if it’s exposed here. Is it a super, duper secret club?
I am waiting for Pete’s commentary on the Rays-Sox game.
and the Knicks looked good.
It’s preseason and thier first team jumped on us. Brand had freaking 18 pts in 10 minutes. I don’t put too much into preseason but my bet is Philly will be more prepared than us. Meanwhile who saw CDR yesterday how the f…. did he fall to the Nets.

Brandon said he’s really annoying over there, and he’s continuing his “annoying ability” here.

I still want to know how the Nets are able to defeat the Heat in OT without the Carter and RJ duo. =X
You can figure out anyone’s s\n on 2 different sites by looking at the way they type.
Brandon is Knicks4life with Mr. Pringles (D’Antoni) in a burglar’s outfit stealing money on PSD
and just like that…boston has home field advantage…with beckett and lester on the bump next. so much for winning the a.l. east championship.
Philly is the ONLY shot. But Lidge/Myers etc. will blow up in Fenway.

Yup.

Devin Harris, Sean Williams and CDR was shutting down the wing. One thing about Frank is he can coach D, but that’s as far as we go.
If LAD can come back against PHI then they have a shot to knock off Boston. They have excellent pitching in a sinker-baller like Lowe keeping the ball on the ground, Billingsly is a stud, Kuroda is solid and Kershaw is filthy. Their bullpen is lights out with Kuo, Saito, Broxton, Wade, etc.
Plus they have Manny and their young hitters plus the calming influence of Torre and his vast knowledge of Fenway and the Sox. Torre will be a huge X-Factor vs. BOS.
Brandon, your avatar on PSD is freakin hilarious.
D’Antoni did come here for money though so it is accurate.
I believe I wrote that I go by Biggest Bob on PSD, but I usually just lurk over there and tend to do my posting with the more… mature crowd that spends time here. Seems like it didn’t make it though.
Atleast Coach D realized Curry is useless, he barely played him. Lee shined today, Duhon wasn’t bad either.. he worked well with Marbury I think that could work out. He needs to play Ewing Jr. though
Cashman getting players input before making final coaching decision. Sounds like Long is safe. Sojo for Meacham?

CP Yankees have left the blog…
as much as i hate the friggin’ sox, i must admit that i like and respect terry francona.
Portland is going to dominate this year. Them and the Lakers are going to run away and hide.
Sojo? I don’t care as much about their 3rd base coaching ability as much as I care about their locker room presence.
Hopefully Cashman asks the players about FAs too and hopefully they come clean about Joe so Cashman can address that with him appropriately.
E-Rod I had to keep it real that move pissed me off.
lol Yeah thats true
Who did you want as coach for the Knicks?
Atleast Coach D realized Curry is useless, he barely played him. Lee shined today, Duhon wasn’t bad either.. he worked well with Marbury I think that could work out. He needs to play Ewing Jr. though
Mr.Pringles Defense has known Curry can’t play a 7 sec. offense that’s not new. Lee played vs a real raw Sixers team
that will only get better. Duhon is as inconsistant a shooter as you will ever see, Charlie Ward looks like Stockton next to him. I still don’t know why he’s not getting time, he’s the best skilled forward even on top of Chandler, Pat Jr. reminds me of a young Shawn Marion he just needs to be given some court time and possesions but we know that will never come w/ Rucker park Crawful and Getinthetruckbury on the same court.
time to give tony franklin a job on the staff
i was impressed with the way he handled the tabata situation. he has fire and players. love playing for him
lol Yeah thats true
Who did you want as coach for the Knicks?
I actually wanted Mark Jackson, if not Rick Carlisle or Scott Skiles would have been perfect, this team is missing discipline and that’s something that Mr.Pringles doesn’t excell at, the fact Huhbury is still here is still mind blowing to me, how he even gives Curry minutes when the fat basterd came to camp gaining weight still boggles my mind !
Dan, Sojo getting the job means it’s more likely Cano is staying, since Sojo was the one who got through to him in A ball.
I actually wanted Mark Jackson
Mark Jackson would have been superb.
Gallinari = Bust.
Knicks need to tank next year and get a high draft pick. Play the young kids and don’t worry about results. Isiah screwed them this year with that meaningless 3 game win streak in April when they were tied with Memphis for 3rd worst record. That meaningless streak moved them to a tie for 6th place.
Do what the T-Wolves did, blow it up and suck, but get young guys a lot of playing time and get a good draft pick. You’ll keep drafting role players with 5th-8th picks. Team needs a star, not hope the Brooklyn project collapses and they get LeBron.
Sojo is a great choice.
D’Antoni is a very creative basketball mind, but he isin’t fit for a rebuilding team with underachievers like this. This may be the worst roster in the NBA when it comes to playing his style. It’s not just running up and down chucking, it requires basketball IQ, unselfishness, and discipline. 3 things we have lacked for almost a decade. If we were more established, he would be an excellent choice for the coach.
Jackson was better equipped to deal with a rebuilding situation. He could have molded the team into his style and there would have been no expectations to win.
Sojo would bond with the players well.
If I’m LeBron I’m not even thinking of playing for Dolan, after my ownership in Cle can put a team together, I’m going to another project, heck no, sadly Mr. James will be wearing a Nets jersey soon, think about it what young player can the Knicks sell as his Robin for years to come ? Lee is leaving there is no way he leaves money on the table, Nate , LeBron likes him like a little bro but he won’t want to play w/ him, ZBo ? nope, Curry, that would make LeBron cry. It’s sad if your Thorn you are succeeding building a new system meanwhile at MSG Dolan keeps on figuring the empty promises of the next GM.
COL 88 here’s what I don’t understand Jackson came from the style they have been trying to re-achieve, he was the original bad boy Knick before X before, Starks, before Ward..It was Ewing and Action Jackson sprinkled in w/ Rick Carlisle, Rory Sparrow and Kenny Walker. How in the hell can they reject that ! Only the stupidest franchise in the NBA !
Speaking of the Knicks
My friend and I were just debating where the Eddy Curry trade ranks in the worst trades all-time in the history of sports. I imagine it is pretty high up on the list.
Why was Chan Ho Park the first man out of the bullpen today?
And why did he only pitch to one batter?
Why was Chan Ho Park the first man out of the bullpen today?

Torre has 4 rings.
I didn’t even know Chan-Ho Park was still in baseball. Last I saw him, he was getting shelled in Mets ST.
In the Hawaiian Winter Leagues, Jeremy Bleich….1 inning, 1 hit, 0 Runs, 0 walks, 0 strikeouts. 14 pitches 1 strikes, 3 balls.
Austin romine, 1-1, single
Jeremy Bleich…2 innings, 1 hit, 0 Runs, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts. 29 pitches 21 strikes, 8 balls.
That’s the whole 2008 draft right there. The rest is 2 fireballers under six feet and maybe a SS from the 30 round.
Jeremy Bleich…3 innings, 2 hit, 0 Runs, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts. 43 pitches 30 strikes, 13 balls.
Romine – 2-1
Jeremy Bleich…4 innings, 2 hit, 0 Runs, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts. 50 pitches 35 strikes, 15 balls.
Romine – 2-1

Wrong again. Better check the draft picks.
Yep you’re right, forgot about 2B Joseph and C Higashioka. I’m pulling hard for OF Smith, he of the 700 batting average and on par with Davis.
Jeremy Bleich…5 innings, 4 hit, 0 Runs, 0 walks, 5 strikeouts. 66 pitches 45 strikes, 21 balls.
Romine – 2-1
Addison Maruszak, 17th round SS. His first 44 games as a pro were exceptional for a ss. Shows power, speed and defense. He’ll be in Charleston in 2009.
Brent Marshall, Luke Greinke,
Jeremy Bleich…6 innings, 4 hit, 0 Runs, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts. 76 pitches 54 strikes, 22 balls. ERA 3.75
Romine – 2-3…two singles
Marshall little fireballer, Greinke is not his brother. Maruszak I’ll wait till next year. re Pruitt, Suttle et al. My beef is that there are no OF’s in the top picks compared to Boston. Pulling hard for Bliech but that humid air in Hawaii favors a pitcher, I had to drop two clubs down golfing to get the same distance.
Game Totals
Jeremy Bleich…6 innings, 4 hit, 0 Runs, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts. 76 pitches 54 strikes, 22 balls. ERA 3.75
Romine – 2-4…two singles, 1 strikeout, .313
Jack Rye shows promise, as does Raymond Kruml and Daniel Brewer. Andy Shive had a great first year….6 ft 6 inch, 260 pound fastballing relief pitcher…..50 strikeouts, 17 waks in 46 innings.
I just got back from watching Jeremy Bleich pitch tonight and he looked VERY good. This was the second time I’ve watched him pitch here in Hawaii and he looked much more composed tonight. Going right after the hitters and using his breaking ball perfectly. He and Romine seemed to be gelling really well. The other encouraging sign was that Bleich even seemed to overpower some of the hitters with his fastball. It wasn’t that his fastball had such great velocity but he was mixing his pitches so well that it really took the hitters by surprise.
Romine also looked good at the plate as well as behind it. He looks very comfortable with the bat in his hands and appears to be a solid contact hitter. Hopefully his power will develop as he progresses.
I also had a chance to talk with Andrew Brackman before the game and he was VERY gracious in signing a couple baseballs for me. When I asked him what it was like to be in Spring Training with the big club, he smiled and said, “Awesome!” He also confirmed that he would be back in Tampa for Spring Training in ‘09.
Lastly, I feel extremely fortunate to live in Hawaii but to also be a devoted Yankee fan and have the opportunity to watch future Yankees is quite an amazing experience. Two years ago, I had the chance to meet Joba right after he got drafted and he actually thanked me for asking him to sign my ball. He is definitely my favorite Yankee because he was so unbelievably down to earth. I also got to see Austin Jackson play last season and watched him dunk on a regulation basket with slippers/flip flops on after one of their games. Now that’s something that I will always remember. What an athlete!
Of course, I am not a baseball scout but I am a true Yankee fan and have loved every minute of watching these future Yankees here in Hawaii. Thanks for taking the time to read this and keep up the great blogging everyone. I’ll definitely be reading.
Um, I think the only ones who are being delusional here are the ones who think that this shirt has anything to do with the Yankees, who were lucky to finish in third place this season.
Some of us need to get over this year and move on.
That being said, I think that these shirts are a little premature. But if the Rays lose to the Red Sox, they can just send the shirts to needy children in Africa like they did with all those New England Patriots 19-0 shirts.
Waikiki Beachboy
thank you for the interesting stories, very nice.
it must be awesome living in hawaii.
You know one of the worst thing about the Yankees not being in the post season is that newspapers and talk radio still need to fill space to talk about the Yankees which I understand they need to do but…
Today I read yet another interview with Hank Steinbrenner (see George King in the NEw York Post) where he says I am still in charge and how he was the one who wanted Santana but he was talked out of it by Hal and Cash and oh by the way his dad wanted Santana too. I know Hank makes good comments but the past few weeks have shown that Hal is the one taking the lead.
Then in the Daily News (Anthony McCarron) I need to read how Joe Torre’s brother says he (Joe Torre) was mis-treated by the Yankees and that Hank should shut his mouth because he made a lot of money from what Joe Torre did.
I say enough of this looking at the past can we please move forward and talk about how this team needs to fix it’s issues and how they are going to move forward. Looking backward at this point to me seems like a waste of time and column inches.
The only thing I read that made any sense is Hank saying the minor leaghue system may take a while to fix because they lack the position players in the system.
gayle
I agree. Hank is all talk.
If Hank were running for office he’d be Ralph Nader.
Ugh. Hankenstein. Call me when Hal says something.
I still think we all should chip in and buy Hank a muzzle.
Let’s see. Joe Torre was in the broadcast booth, making maybe $ 150 K having been fired three times as a manager when The Yankees gave him one more chance to manage.
The Yankees surrounded him with talent from the 1995 team that made the playoffs and added a couple of fairly good players named Jeter and Rivera.
In the next 12 years Torre earns about $ 40 million or so while likely elevating his resume to th elevel of induction into Cooperstown.
It appears the Yankees made Torre a lot of money.
Maybe it’s Frank Torre who should STFU.
Remember when the Yanks would play new teams in the playoffs and even before the games began the Yanks would be favored because they had a lot of postseason experience? Looking at the Rays you’re looking at a team that hadn’t ever sniffed postseason experience, let alone be thrust into it. They did some things last night that are not surprising from a team that is very new to winning. The fact that they ended up losing 2-0 (and if Crawford had caught that ball that scored the second run, it may have ended up 1-0) certainly is a testimony to the fact that they belong in the postseason. The mighty Sux scored one run!
It may be that Maddon finds a way for them to regroup and figure things out, it may not. The only thing that is hurting them at this point is that they may be finally freezing up under the spotlight of October. They won’t be the first team to do it, nor I’m sure will they be the last.
About Evan Longoria? I’m not ready to call him a choke artist mainly because he is still coming back from a broken wrist and that hurts his timing.
GO RAYS!
GO PHILS!!
Trisha,
I will only state the obvious. When you shut out the other team it doesn’t make a bit of difference if you score 1, 2, or even 10 runs it is still a win.
“Maybe it’s Frank Torre who should STFU.”
Yep.
By the way, as long as Hank is involved in the running of the Yankee organization (and there were some people here who really wanted Santana and still think it was a mistake that the Yankees didn’t get him) maybe everyone else should STFU and realize he can say whatever the F he wants, as by dint of the title bestowed upon him by his father, owner of the NY Yankees, he has been given that right. If you don’t like what Hank says, I’d say that’s your problem.
I would think that anyone who believes in the first amendment would agree with that position?
Now, whether Hank says intelligent things or dumb things, I have to believe that he wants the Yankees to win and wants to field the best team possible. Again I point out the fact that he was the lone holdout for Santana. I did not want Santana, but there were definitely people who did and definitely people who feel it was a big mistake. Hank apparently isn’t totally stupid when it comes to baseball.
If I buy Hank a GPS would it help him find the high road so he could take it more often?
Torre was good for the Yankees and the Yankees were good for Torre. Until they weren’t. Joe Torre ackowledges that and has been nothing but complimentary of the Steinbrenner family especially George. Hank hasn’t quite mastered that skill set yet and is only capable of delivering left handed compliments.
Hank’s outbursts were fun for the first month but now it’s quickly gotten old and has the potential to be detrimental to the team.
Not necessary for you to state anything Ray as I am talking to Yankee fans who were making comments about the Rays choking.
If you’re a Met or Yankee it may be a tough WS to watch.
Phillies Red Sox
Trevor, as long as the Phils continue to kick butt and take numbers, I won’t have any difficulty watching it.
“Maybe it’s Frank Torre who should STFU.â€
Yep.

Anyone can say what they want. Frank, Hankie, me, you. We all may not like what they say, but they/we all have the right to say stuff.
And we also have that right to complain about what they say.
Trisha, I realize that you think Sox fans should not post on this blog.
I really attempt not to make “troll statements” that are designed simply to antagonize and gloat, but at the same time it is not necessary for me to have your permission to post on here.
S.A. you also have a good point there!
I was thinking that there have been many posters here who have also indicated that they wished I’d STFU! Ah, the first amendment. Nothing like it. Speak. Someone complains. Complain. Someone speaks. Makes the world go ’round!
Hey maybe Hank wishes the people who complain about him would STFU too!
Ray, your comment was gratuitous so therefore in my eyes unnecessary.
S.A. I honestly don’t follow the goings-on in the press enough to make a difference. There are some people who lap up everything they say and spin like tops with the information (not saying you at all.) As Gayle, I believe it was Gayle, pointed out the press just loves to stir up crap about the Yankees. It sells newspapers. They beam.
To be honest, I don’t know what Hank has said lately that is so offputting. The last thing I remembered reading here was that he said the Yankees sucked. People who bash Girardi for his “dishonesty” should be thrilled that Hank told it like it was – as it were.
You’re right though, people certainly have the right to make comments about his comments.
Trisha, not sure what your issue is with Ray, but, he’s one of the only no-Yankee fans, and Boston fans in particular that comes here and actualy talks baseball, and much of it is Yankee baseball. He may poke a humorous jab on occassion, but, it’s more harmless than anything that’s been said to him about the Sox. Hell, I’m more of a azs than he is.
“Not necessary for you to state anything Ray as I am talking to Yankee fans who were making comments about the Rays choking.”
Wouldn’t necessarily say the Rays choked either. They played a pretty good game. Some nice defense and Shields and Balfour were great. Some really bad at bats though. Some credit to Matsuzaka, but with a fast guy like Crawford at 3rd with no outs, you MUST score him, even if it’s with an out. Pena’s AB in the 8th was brutal. You swing 3-0, the pitch better be right down broadway. Longoria 8th inning AB was ugly as well. He swung at Ball 3 and then GDIPed, though that was a great pitch from Masterson that looked like a fatty down the middle til it broke at the end.
“Hell, I’m more of a azs than he is.”
GB7….you have a great sense of humor!!
Ray, after this season, I have to have a sense of humor. It keeps me from attacking my neighbors.
“Not necessary for you to state anything Ray as I am talking to Yankee fans who were making comments about the Rays choking.”
Don’t much like the term choke myself, but you’d have to admit there were some late inning at bats where the Rays looked a little tight.
My bad. Something of a double post.
GB, in this case his comment was gratuitous, purely of a Suxian nature, and really did not address what I was saying. That was my point to him. His rooting interest does not allow him to be totally devoid of sensitivity or defensiveness, even though he may bring it out in a “genteel” fashion. Therefore I think he would be better off on the extremely well populated website called Sons of Sam Horn, where they talk baseball nonstop and are saying things to each other right now such as “When you shut out the other team it doesn’t make a bit of difference if you score 1, 2, or even 10 runs it is still a win.”
DUH.
Just my opinion of course.
Fredo I agree. That’s why I tried to at least give some balance to the backdrop by pointing out that their newness to postseason could explain some of what we saw.
“The most important thing to remember is this: If you didn’t get it from me or my brother [Hal], it doesn’t mean [anything]. I don’t care about some piss-ant employee. If you don’t get it from me or Hal, it’s meaningless.” NYPOST.com
Way to go Hank in developing an environment in the workplace where everyone feels valued and appreciated.
The other caution we should all take from experience is this. Because the Rays are down one game doesn’t mean that their postseason is over.
Fingers crossed.
“I don’t care about some piss-ant employee. If you don’t get it from me or Hal, it’s meaningless.”
Okay in fairness to reality I would agree that if there is a comment that I wish Hank would think he would want to take back, it is certainly that one.
Damn you have to respect that Boston organization. Theo and Co have put together a powerhouse. I even like Tito and the little yapper. If the Yankees can get CC and Texiera, next year should be fun. I like to compete and beating scrubs using money is meh. This hating of Boston is only for bad losers.
“This hating of Boston is only for bad losers.”
Hey stop trashing Jorge Posada!
Trisha, face facts, Ray is correct. In a playoff series in particular, but, in any sport in general, as long as you win by one run or one point, what difference does it make? A win is a win and a loss is a loss.
Also, Longoria has his timing back. He’s been playing for more than a month.
On whether Torre (Joe or Frank) should keep their mouths shut, why should they? What other manager could have dealt with such a difficult, micromanaging, egomaniacal person such as George steinbrenner? Steinbrenner has a generous nature when it comes to giving, but, he was nearly impossible to work for. Torre was able to deal with him, and florish, and that’s something nobody else can claim.
Hey Bo, what the heck is “meh”?
Trisha
But that’s the problem. Once you put it out there, you can’t take it back. Hank obviously is lacking a filter necessary to be a spokesman for the team.
It’s also been my experience in business that a person who feels the need to tell you they are in charge usually really isn’t but they are just the last to know that.
GB I don’t think I have the need to get into a war of words with you as you defend Ray. If you don’t get the point I was making, I will still live.
Have a good day now.
“Also, Longoria has his timing back. He’s been playing for more than a month.”
Gee not according to the sportscasters, but of course you know better!
Hear, hear, Showalter should have reaped the plaudits for his work. Torre came into a set situation and schmoozed his way into fortune and fame. But you notice he’s not snoozing in LA. The Yankees and Torre were a win win situation, now it’s time to move on. As Mattingly said you don’t want the after Torre job. You want the after after Torre.
pat, but doesn’t Hank somehow remind you of George? George had that same sometimes unrefined and bombastic, shoot-from-the-hip nature. And he was very much in charge. I just think that Hank gets it from George. Now it may be that Hank truly is not in charge. I just think he inherited his dad’s nature.
“Hear, hear, Showalter should have reaped the plaudits for his work. Torre came into a set situation and schmoozed his way into fortune and fame. But you notice he’s not snoozing in LA. The Yankees and Torre were a win win situation, now it’s time to move on. As Mattingly said you don’t want the after Torre job. You want the after after Torre.”
And in this case, I would say that Bo knows!
“The most important thing to remember is this: If you didn’t get it from me or my brother [Hal], it doesn’t mean [anything]. I don’t care about some piss-ant employee. If you don’t get it from me or Hal, it’s meaningless.†NYPOST.com
Hank Steinbrenner for boss of the year!
Longoria came back and played in 17 games before the end of the season and moved his average up 7 points before slumping during the last 6 games. He hit 5 homers and drove in 15 runs. I’d say that his stroke was back, especially given his ALDS series numbers.
There is no “war of words”. Just stating that you’re wrong about Ray.
The best thing that could possibly happen to the Yanks is a two-year ban on Hank Steinbrenner, as long as that’s the only penalty the Yanks receive. He’s going to end up costing the Yanks dearly, because he’s come extremely close to having tampering charges leveled on him and that will cost the Yanks in money and talent.
Absolutely, let’s hear it for Ray. A man of substance and style. You notice he’s posting here, not on the soddin Sams. I love Australian terminology.
These shirts were made too early. If they win the ALCS then I could see those shirts make sense.
Before I’d patronize a forum I have no business on and suck up to Yankee fans, I’d declare myself a fan of all Mexican League or Japanese League teams.
Neil, no question. Thanks for putting it so succinctly.
GB I wasn’t wrong about Ray nor am I wrong about Ray. But if gratuitous comments are your gig, then I can see why you said what you did and I hate to say it but it helps me better understand why Pete made the comment he did the other night about your pretending to play things off once you’re called on them.
The Tampa fans have suddenly become very cocky. The Yankees will be back on top next year. Mark my word. The Rays will fall off..than what? The stands will be empty down in Tampa like they usually are. They didn’t conquer anything. Yes, they are a good story, but they are definitely getting carried away. I guess they can enjoy it while it lasts.

I loved the Phantaic doing the lineup!
Go Phillies! (they are the only team left that I could actually stomach winning it all!).
Did we finish first? No. So yeah, they conquered us. Leave them be. And root against the Sux.
Really Tampa? Really? Pfffffff
