The Red Sox, it seems, have run out of notable players from their past. Throwing out the first pitch tonight?

The much-acclaimed .274 career hitter and no-time All-Star Trot Nixon! Apparently Doug Griffin, Win Remmerswaal and Izzy Alcantara had previous commitments.

But Nixon does hold a place in Yankees history for this exchange of words with Alex Rodriguez in 2005:

A-Rod: “I know there are 650 or 700 other players who are sleeping this morning. Either that, or they’re taking their kids to school. But there’s no way they’re going to be up running the stairs or doing what I’m doing.”

Nixon: “Well, I’m not a deadbeat dad, you clown. What’s wrong with me taking my kid to school, and then going to work out?”
