No. 200 for Pettitte

September
19

The win tonight was No. 200 for Andy Pettitte. He had his parents and wife in the crowd and seemed pretty pleased with the milestone. He’s the 26th lefty to get there.

Pettitte is 200-112 in his career. Mariano Rivera has saved 49 of those wins.

“I’m glad we were able to do that and get a big win for Andy. I think he deserves it,” Rivera said. “He’s a classy guy you want to give everything you’ve got to.”

Rivera gave Pettitte the ball when the game was over. “I told him it was a pleasure to play with him,” Rivera said. “It means everything to have him back.”

For those of you curious, here are the pitching matchups for the Boston-Tampa series:

quoted from the boston dirt dogs:
“stinko otcho”!!! priceless, even better than papelblown

  2. Huuz

gotta give credit to Cashman for bringing pettite back…was there a better starting pitcher FA pickup in the off-season?

...although, the Yanks never shoulda let him leave for houston in the first place…

  3. Felipe from Brazil - Gagne - a true Yankee

    what class act Mariano is!

  4. beavis

pettitte should have never left to begin with!

  5. Leonardo

Look…i know this is cliche, and its the same thing that everyone who gets on here to let out their opinion believes. But I love this team with all my heart, it’s almost sickening, in fact at times it is. Reading what Mo said (i missed the post game on YES because I was at the game) just makes me choke up. I love him, Andy’s is my favorite, always has been, and GO YANKS. I dont care what happens this year, this is incredible, almost feels like ‘96, only I’ll remember it perfectly. I was only 10 then. ‘Nite all.

  6. VOIII

Check this out from the Bronx Block. I love it!

  7. Leonardo

Beavis, if Pettite stays, and what came oh so close to happening with Mo, a fresh arm, happens. Then none of us get sleep tonight, trying to be a smarter Joe Torre. You don’t lose that game w/o brining in the big guns, no way.

  8. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism!

    In case you missed it,

    Optimism Era Record: 12-2

    Yeah. It works.

All it takes is a little faith.

  9. TKinDC

    Reb –

Was there a squirrel sighting tonight? That might affect your overall optimism record. I mean how can anyone compare optimism to the HUGE power of a small, fluffy tailed rodent?

  10. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism!

    TKinDC:

Saw three on the way to class, one crossed my path directly.

  11. Vader

I think he meant three years ago.

  12. TKinDC

Well – then I guess we have to be OPTIMISTIC and depend on the might of our squirrel friends.

I feel great about the team right now. 27 in ‘07 is lookin great!

Goodnight all! A good night it is!

  13. I love Joba

I really, really hope Tampa can take 2 of 3 from Boston.

  14. Bob Michaels

What`s the Yankee rotation for the Toronto series?

  15. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism!

Bob: I believe it’d be something like Wang, Clemens, Hughes, Moose/Kennedy, but I’m not sure.

  16. BryanK

Going to be a tough series against Toronto, at least Tampa is tossing a couple of good pitchers against Boston. We shall see what happens!

  17. Enoch

Mariano has only saved 49 of Pettitte’s 200 wins? I’m not looking it up, but that seems low.

  18. Yankees Chick

Mo is such a class act… there MAY have been tears forming in my eyes watching the post-game.

    yeah, i’m a softie.

  19. whoa

I don’t give Torre credit for much (way too many people give him too much credit for doing nothing), but I think he played a critical role in getting Pettitte to come back.

  20. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism!

    Yankees Chick:

    There’s a reason he’s my favorite active pinstripe-wearing player!

  21. Josh

Mo’s 49 saves out of 200 actually is surprising to me, it’s not like every time Andy pitches it’s even going to be a save situation. That’s very cool that Mo has saved almost a full quarter of Andy’s wins.

Listening to the postgame made me smile like hell. This team is having a blast.

  22. Dewey

Its a good time to be a Yankees fan. Screw all the naysayers and the people who gave up on the team calling this a “rebuilding year” on THIS very blog back in May & June.

What NOW? We accomplished what no one thought we would.

  23. stuart

guys the playoffs are going to be crazy. all 4 AL teams can win it all.

the Yanks must ptich well else they will not slug there way into the next round.. Joba is going to be on centerstage big time..

this Yankee team can win it all and lose in the 1st round it is a total crapshoot.

  24. whoa

The playoffs are always a crapshoot.

If you pitch well, your chances of winning go up.

  25. Andrea - 27 in 07

I was RIGHT near the foul pole today and no squirrel. I was bummed :(

but it was a good game and a good win. so I guess that makes it ok….

  26. stuart

where are the trolls?? it is hilarious since there team is imploding they are gone!!

they just shows how moronic it is to come to this site and post there drivel….

the sux will be in the playoffs but I think there situation does not bode well from them. there pitching is even worse then the Yanks…

Okajima is tired, gagne stinks, and Papelbon will be Rivera if he does it when it counts for 5 or 6 yrs…

  27. kasey

just checking in from the road. this is awesome to watch. division or not, the yankees are going to have plenty of momentum going into october, so hopefully that bodes well.

the toronto series could be tough, though.

hope everyone is well, and hope to see some of you out at the shows.

  28. Jack

Also looking ahead to Boston pitching match-ups…Johan Santana pitches on Friday, meaning he’ll go again on Wednesday…the day before the Red Sox begin a four game series with them! ARGH! That’s a pretty lucky break.

    GO YANKS!

  29. Matty

I don’t care about the division. I just don’t want to play the Angels.

  30. LAS

    Oh what a beautiful morning…..

    From today’s Boston Herald:

And with Manny Ramirez still carrying around an ice bag on his left side, Kevin Youkilis trying to find any remedy possible for his right wrist, and David Ortiz suggesting he might have to sit out tomorrow night’s opener against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays because of a lingering sore right knee, the prospects of getting well offensively are difficult to digest.

“When you’re playing the game, you know there will be times where you aren’t going to win all the time, said Eric Hinske, who had one of the Sox’ three hits. “We know where the Yankees are. We’re not trying to lose. We’re just not trying to get too crazy about it.

No Big Papi?? Bwa-ha-ha! And then, key word: “TRYING” to not get to crazy. Ha!

  31. Ranting Guy

    Bwa-ha-ha-ha
    Bwa-ha-ha-ha
    BWAH-HAH-HAH-HAH!!!!!

    Right Mini-me?

  32. SJ44

Here’s an interesting stat: Andy Pettitte is the only pitcher in franchise history to be drafted by the Yankees and win 200 games for them.

Whitey Ford (236) was signed out of a tryout camp.

You can make a pretty fair argument, Andy is one of the 3-4 best pitchers in the history of the franchise. Quite amazing when you consider the pitchers who have pitched for the Yankees.

He has had a terrific career.

  33. Yanksrule57

I loved the “Time to push the Panic Button” on the front of the Boston Herald yesterday. ESPN even used it as a graphic on Sportscenter last night.
The Sox are definitely hearing footsteps!

BTW, I stopped posting last week because the trolls and people feeding them were becoming annoying. One of the things I love about this blog is that we all disagree on things from time to time, but most people treat others with respect. I hope the registration thing gets implemented for next season.

  34. jennifer 27 in 07

Where is best team in baseball?? Oh were all right here. He left with his tail between his legs. LOL

  35. JRVJ

    SJ44,

You do realize that Pettitte pitched 3 years for the Astros and won 37 games for them? (i.e., 163 of Pettitte’s wins have been with the Yankees).

  36. Wouter

Wait a minute SJ44: “Win 200 games FOR THEM”? I thought 36 of Andy’s 200 W’s are as a member of the Houston Astros, so…

Would mean something that Mo has saved 49 of 164 Pettite-as-a-Yankee victories, which would seem like a logical ratio to me. The reason the stat stands out is that Mo and Andy have been on a good team together for so long, and Mo’s longevity as a closer.

    1 1/2 game! I almost can’t believe it! Let’s go Yankees!

  37. SJ44

Yes but, he won his 200th as a Yankee. That’s what I meant. My mistake. I should have made my point clearer.

Its a shame he went to Houston. He would have won more games than anybody in the history of the franchise had he stayed.

  38. Wouter

Not only did JRVJ beat me to it, he also didn’t make the small calculation error I made :o)

  39. SJ44

What I meant to say was, as a player drafted by the Yankees, he was the first to win his 200th game while pitching for the Yankees.

Sorry, I wasn’t clearer in the post.

  40. Doreen

I remember hearing something about Andy’s dad not wanting him to leave the Yankees because he had a chance of breaking Whitey Ford’s win record. He surely could have and it was certainly heartbreaking for me when he left. I’m just glad he’s back. Do you think he has another 2 years left in his arm to maybe break Ford’s record anyway?

  41. Doreen

Oops. Of course, it wouldn’t all be Yankees’ wins, anyway.

  42. cj

Even though it was a tied/one run game for most of the night, there was very little tension in the ballpark (Until the pop-up double in the 9th). A testament to the calm that he brings when he is on the mound.

  43. DMan

    Hurray optimism!

  44. Wally Pip

I’m still laughing at all the naysayers and the sky is falling people here from June.

How quickly they come back to the fold. Luckily the Yanks didn’t heed their negativity.

  45. Greg

Anyone else notice we don’t have as many Sox trolls here lately????

    What happend to them???

  46. DMan

    Greg-

Either they ran away with their tails between there legs, or they’re made up of the 5818 people that have had there access blocked by that Bad Behavior program hah.

  47. Terence D

People like SJ44 shouldn’t even post here after how they gave up in June and wrote this team off. They got some pair of cajones to now “root” for this team they gave up on.

  48. Uncle Vito - †his ¡s ®eall mÊ

Try not to call out the trolls. They ruin it here.

  49. swo

Terence, it’s ok to be frustrated with your favorite team. The “trolls” we’re talking about are a completely different story. There’s a huge difference between “Why can’t Abreu get a hit once in a while?” and “HAHA THE RED SOX ARE THE TEAM OF THE MILLENIUM HAHA GOOD LUCK WITH CLUELESS JOE AND BRIAN CRASHMAN HARHARHARHARHAR”

An obvious dramatization. Then again, not really, heh

  50. jay destro

it almost feels like those years in houston where there for andy to get his elbow healthy, then return and make just a major impact on a team who loves him dearly.

  51. mary ellen

Congratulations to Andy Pettite – one of the toughest good guys around – Mo’s sincere words give credence to the fact that this year really means something to the “old guard”. They want to win for each other, and that’s the difference right now between the Yankees and the Red Sox. If only A-Rod could find his stroke again, then the team would be completely unbeatable. I love the way these guys are staying tough right up to the last day of the season. They could have just sat back and watched as the Tigers handed them the Wild Card, but they want the Division – it’s a pride thing. GO YANKS!

  52. DMan

The sweat is pouring down here in Boston.. I honestly heard someone today say ‘well at least we’ve got the Patriots’... Talk about over-reacting!

  53. randy l

just had my morning coffee watching the nesn game replay of last night’s sox game which just happened to be on the papelbon grand slam inning. now that’s an excellent way to start a cape cod morning. one thing struck me as i watched the sequence leading up to the slam. first of all, i didn’t see a fastball over 94 the whole time from papelbon. the red sox are resting players who could be playing-manny,youkillis, okajima, crisp, and limiting buckholtz, but papelbon can’t throw above 94? now maybe nesn had a slow gun, but it may also be a legitimate reading of a tired papelbon arm. he has had 4 days off since his yankee bad appearance. why 4 days off? especially the night before when gagne blew the game. papelbon had made 7 appearances in 12 games before they gave him 4 days off. at one point making three appearances in a row.
my conclusion is that he’s lost a little on his fastball and they’re trying to rest him now that they’ve realized it. so that’s one more problem for boston going into the playoffs.
now that was a very enjoyable cup of coffee.

  54. marc

I havent heard anyone complain that “Same old Joe” is going the veterens(Clemens & Moose) over the kids(Hughes & IPK) for the playoff rotation. He said yesterday that Edwar has a good chance on making the roster and maybe Hughes or IPK as a reliever hinting that one may get dropped!

Joe is going with the playoff experience.
    Are you kidding?!
I don’t like Mooses playoff experience!

Lets look at the Cardinals and Tigers from last year, Velander, Bonderman, Weaver, Wainwright..

  55. Vader

    Yankees Chick,

Just read your last entry and I couldn’t agree more.

  56. jimintokyo

I wouldn’t worry about A-Rod. He’s going to match his regular season with one of the greatest post-seasons in history. Yanks are taking it all this year.

  57. DMan

    marc-

I don’t have the numbers, but if I remember, Moose has a pretty decent playoff record.. Anybody know for sure?

  58. marc

The last 2 years he pithced poorly

  59. randy l

“People like SJ44 shouldn’t even post here after how they gave up in June and wrote this team off. ”
whoa there. i went at it with sj44 more than a few times over him saying he’d sacrifice this season if it meant setting up the team for years to come . that doesn’t mean he was giving up on the team. it meant focusing on development more than i preferred, but it’s a legitimate position to take. differing opinions is what makes this blog what it is. i can honestly say that at least 50% of what i know about the yankee minor league system came from sj44. how is that not being a major contributor to this blog? the folks who wanted the youth movement in full force and the people who wanted to win now have both got their wish. what could be better than that?

  60. Vader

I know that without him in 2003 (Oakland and the relief appearance in the ALCS), we don’t make the WS. Also, game one of the 2004 ALCS was pretty good. I don’t know for sure either, but I’m going to say that the good appearances outweigh the bad.

  61. Vader

    randy l,

    Nothing!

  62. marc

    Vader

Has Moose been pitching the same since 04’?

  63. Doreen

    From: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/193222/mike_mussina_where_does_he_rank.html

Mussina has pitched in 15 playoff series, and has a 7-8 record, with a 3.40 ERA. His teams have also gone 7-8 in the playoff series. Mussina has pitched in two World Series for the New York Yankees, and gone 1-1, with a 3.00 ERA. The Yankees lost both Series.

    Not great. Not bad.

  64. Yanksrule57

    Puled this quote from Sport Illustrated;

“We fully expected to win tonight,” manager Dave Trembley said. “It didn’t happen, but not because we didn’t put forth the effort.”

What game was he watching? His team didn’t run out balls, one of his stars threw a hissy fit on the field and other than against Mariano in the 9th, looked like they were mailing it in.
Nice job for them to option this guy for another year.

  65. DMan

Last year agaisnt detriot he gave up 4 runs in 7 innings, with 5Ks and 1HR.. He did take the loss.

In 2005 agaisnt oakland he pitched 7 innings, gave up 2 runs and stuck out 9..

Thats all I can find with a quick search.
I don’t think thats to terrible..

  66. Vader

Maybe someone should let Dan Perry from Fox know that he may have wrote the article, about winning while transitioning to youth, on the wrong team.

  67. marc

    Doreen,

Those stats are from 3+ years ago. Moose is older now and is clearly not the same. I would rather have one of the future guys like IPK or Hughes be the 4th man. IPK hasn’t given up more than one run in a game and Hughes still gives you 5-6 innings with 3-5 runs. Moose is either on or very off, which results in 6 runs in 2 innings.

  68. Vader

Dman seems to think he has done OK.

I agree that Moose is not perfect, but I can’t say that Hughes or IPK, will be better. The one thing I do know is that Torre will always go with experience and I can’t blame him.

  69. DMan

    Vader-

No kidding right? Perry is so anti-Yankee. He wrote another article about 10 ‘question mark’ players on the post season contenders.. He mentioned 2 Yankees, and not a single Red Sox (Sock?).

  70. Doreen

yeah, Mussina got a lot of grief for giving up those four runs. But 4 runs in 7 innings to Detroit is not horrible. What was horrible was that the Yankees got 2 and then the bats just died. Shut off.

  71. DMan

    On Moose,

I’m not trying to say hes an ace or anything, but he’s a good #3 or #4..

I just think based on his record and his experience, it’ll be really hard for Torre to go with Hughes or Kennedy in a starting role.. I just don’t think Hughes has showed him enough.. Kennedys been impressive, but its such a small sample size..

  72. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, and David Ortiz stole my cheeseburger (aka Joe)

Moose scares me big time. I don’t care how well he’s thrown in his last two outings. If he’s given a postseason opportunity, I really do hope that he proves me wrong.

  73. Ranting Guy

So, 163 of Pettitte’s 200 wins are as a Yankee? That puts him 73 wins short of Ford? He could still pass Ford in late 2011 or early 2012 if he stays healthy. And, if he stays signed.

  74. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, and David Ortiz stole my cheeseburger (aka Joe)

I was at the game last night with a die hard Red Sox (and Patriots fan)!

  75. marc

I think it should come down to their last start. Especially Moose who has the job to lose it if he pitches poorly in his next start. If IPK has another great game, then that would be 4 for 4. He has to be atleast on the roster. As far as Hughes, he seems to be improving with every start and must learn to get through the first 2 innings. If he has a spectacular game next time around, he has to be a strong candidate for the 4th spot.

  76. swo

Kennedy has yet to face a truly dangerous team, and he won’t for the rest of the season, and we already want him on the postseason roster against either the Angels or the Indians? Don’t you think it’s a bit much to ask a kid who started in A-ball to start a playoff game for the Yankees? It would be an absolute travesty to put that kind of pressure on the kid, and even moreso if he gets bombed.

As for Hughes…...do his stats really make him that much more worthy of starting in the playoffs than Mussina? Honestly?

When it comes down to it, you want the guy with experience. Anyone who’s seen the movie “Major League” knows that :-P

In fact, the junkballer in that movie reminds me a lot of Mussina…

  77. DMan

    marc-

Just on paper, if those things were to happen, Id agree with you that Kennedy or Hughes should be given a serious look..

But Torre goes for the expeirence when he can, so Moose is the definite favorite for the #3 or #4.. Probably the #4 Id say.

  78. Mr. Vegas

“People like SJ44 shouldn’t even post here after how they gave up in June and wrote this team off.

Watch out, everybody. Here comes the “Fan Police,” ready to crack down on anyone they don’t consider a “Real Fan.” Make sure you’re in lock step with the Real Fans or the Fan Police are gonna come and gitcha.

  79. marc

    DMan,

We all know that Joe will go with Moose no matter what, but as second guessers, I say that if he does not pitch well next time around, he should not be the 4th starter.

  80. * * THEE BOSTON BUGLE * *

Boston is considering the hiring of Mo Vaughn to pinch run for Lugo {if} he gets on base.

  81. Doreen

I don’t know why, but I just tried submitting this and it didn’t take, but in today’s Star Ledger Ed price had two boxes. They are not on the on-line version of the paper, but I thought they were interesting enough to try to reproduce here.

Big Comebacks: If the Yankes win teh division it would be the second-largest deficit EVER OVERCOME to finish in first place.

    Year, Team Largest Deficit
    1914, Braves 15 on July 5
    1978, Yankees 14 on July 19
    1951, Giants 13 on August 11
    1995, Mariners 13 on August 2
    1973, Mets 12-1/2 on July 8
    2006, Twins 12-1/2 on May 27

Then: How the Yankees’ Deficit Has Moved:

After Games of Red Sox Yankees GB
    4/19 9-5 8-6 1
    5/12 24-11 17-18 7
    5/29 36-15 21-29 14 1/2
    6/14 41-24 33-31 7 1/2
    7/25 61-40 54-46 6 1/2
    8/12 70-47 66-51 4
    8/27 80-51 72-59 8
    Last Night 90-63 88-64 1 1/2

    Gotta Love It!!!!

  82. Pittsburgh Yankee

Mussina is just that, a good number 4. I would take Clemens over him right now, maybe even IPK (with reservation) if he pitches like he did last outing.

On the other hand, he knows he is under the spotlight and this is likely his last chance for anything significant, so maybe he is pitching for posterity and emptying the tank one last time.

The Yankee pitching is better than any time since 2002-3, and the bullpen with Joba, Viz, Edwar, and Mo prevents Joe from having to trot out Villone, Farnsworth, Bruney, or Henn in a big spot.

IPK +/- Hughes for the long men prevents another Jeff Weaver debacle. Sure, they are young and may screw up, which I doubt they will, but they get a free pass this time since they will anchor us for years to come.

  83. JJ

If Andy wants to play long enough (A very big if) he will have 274 wins overall when he passes Ford. With the rest of his resume that is HOF for sure.

  84. Keith

Ahhhh yes !..... and now comes the big no-brainer question. Was Brian Cashman smart in his pursuit of bringing Andy Pettitte back opposed to staying with Randy Johnson ?

  85. Doreen

Apparently, this site doesn’t let you format columns of information. I’ve tried twice and it hasn’t “taken.” Sigh. a lot of work for nothing. BUT—
In today’s Star Ledger, Ed Price put together 2 graphs showing (1) If the Yanks win the division, it would the secon-largest deficit ever overcome to finish in first place (the largest is 1914 Braves, 15 GB on 7/5 followed by the 1978 Yankees at 14 GB on 7/19); and (2) How the Yankees deficit has moved since 4/19 at 1 GB, 5/12 at 7 GB, 5/29 at 14-1/2 GB; 6/14 at 7-1/2 GB; 7/25 at 6-1/2 GB; 8/12 at 4 GB; 8/27 at 8 GB; and last night at 1-1/2 GB. Isn’t it Great!

(The box format was much easier to read, but the information is still lots of good news.)

  86. chris in fairfield

when you look up ‘heart’ in the dictionary you’ll find a picture of andy pettitte .

  87. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, and David Ortiz stole my cheeseburger (aka Joe)

Hughes has thrown 3 good games in a row. If he throws one more good one, I would strongly consider giving him the start over Mussina.

  88. Doreen

And you know what the song says: “You gotta have HEART.” (Of course, this was an anti-Yankees Broadway musical, but I still like the sentiment). Since we have Andy Pettitte, we have HEART.

  89. DMan

    Keith-

He definitly was… But Andy should have never gotten away from the Yankees. I was real upset when I heard he had signed with Houston.

  90. marc

Its funny that last year our rotaion for the playoffs were:

    1.Wang( no playoff experience)
    2. RJ(out for the season and maybe done)
    3. Moose(now at most the #4)
    4. Wright(Out for the season)
    5. Lidle(RIP)

    This year:
    1. Wang( more experience)
    2. Andy( Big game pitcher)
    3. Rocket(HOF, proven winner)
    4. Moose(will be on a short leash with the great long men we will now have)
    5. Hughes/IPK

  91. DMan

I remember.. I think it was either in 04 or 05.. My friend and I were arguing about the playoffs. hes a sox fan.. He came out and said ‘Who do you pitch?!’

And I seriously didn’t have an answer.. Wright? Vazquez? Um.. Kevin Brown?

Now though… Now, I have solid answers to that question.

  92. Lori

    Oh what a beautiful morning . . .
Anyone catch the back cover of the Herald up to Boston: The sky is falling for sure over there!

    DMan—
He may have gotten away from the Yankees, but he was still a Yankee for me, even with the Astros. I followed his starts as best I could in the newspapers. When he was re-signed it was, “Oh happy day.”

  94. DMan

    Doreen-

I remember that too.. I remember a bit of last season when the talks about the FA class started heating up.. When I would read ‘Pettitte on the Yankees rader’, Id get excited.

Hes a Yankee, through and through.

This is off topic from what is being written, but I felt the need to respond to something I heard on the radio regarding next years schedule. It is about the fact that the Yankees aren’t closing the season at home, they are saying big deal it won’t be the last games played there. While that is true, #1 the Yankees are planing to hold ceromonies around the event (you can’t do too much in the playoffs, and #2 the real fans are the ones who go the regular season games, not many regular fans can afford the playoff ticket prices. So we should be the ones to see the pomp and circumastance that goes with closing the historic ball park.

also we are closing this year on the road, with the mets at home. Why should we close 2 years in a row on the road?

  96. Phil

Next year’s schedule is not set. What MLB sent out was the preliminary schedule that is sent out to teams to get feedback / objections / requested changes.

Morning all. Let me just say that this is absolutely the best part of the baseball year. So let’s stop and smell the roses. I mean, to know your team is in the playoffs and has a chance to strive for best record in baseball with nothing to lose, it doesn’t get better than that. I personally get so stressed out and lately disappointed by the playoffs which sometimes are over in the blink of an eye.

Enjoy the next ten games, it doesn’t get better than this.

  98. DMan

    Jeff NJ-

Not that it will take away from the stress and that, stomach-in-the-throat feeling that we all get during the post season…

But this is a different team then those ones that disapointed us in the last few years. They just have a different feel and presence to them. A better one.

  99. marc

    Kudos to Cashman,
there is not one member on last years team that Cash got rid of that his having a good season. Sheff, RJ, Wright, Lidle, Proctor, Dotel

  100. DMan

    marc-

    Lidle.. Erm….

  101. jennifer 27 in 07

Marc do you realize Lidle is no longer with us. Not sure why you bring his name up.

  102. jennifer 27 in 07

Does anyone else find the Bank of America commercials as offensive as I do? I don’t know any Yankee fans who bring face paint and a foam finger or a rally cap to the game. It is very annoying.

  103. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism!

    Marc:

    Lidle?

    Not kosher, man.

  104. Phil

Cashman didn’t “get rid of” Lidle. He died in a plane crash. Not a good post, marc.

  105. marc

I meant no disrespect, but Lidle was no longer on the team when he passed away. Cashman did not resign him.

  106. jennifer 27 in 07

Marc it didn’t come across that way. You said all these people that Cash got rid of are having bad seasons. Not my words yours.

  107. marc

I was speaking from a baseball perspective, that these people who we relied on for wins last year are not producing any wins for their respective teams.

  108. Lori

Marc – the last post doesn’t make it any better. Stop now and just apologize.

  109. swo

Yeah….there’s no telling what Cashman would have done regarding Lidle. The guy was a decent pitcher who would have gotten a raise on the free agent market, so who knows? Maybe Cashman would have held onto him. There’s no way to know, so you can’t include him in one of the “moves” that Cashman made. Keep in mind that he passed away before the playoffs were even over.

Besides, like either people have said, that’s just in poor taste.

  110. Doreen

In all fairness to Marc, though, Lidle is not having a good year. (Ouch!) I’m sorry but I had to laugh and something tells me that Lidle would have, too. RIP, Corey.

  111. LATE REPORT

Trash cans throughout New England are strewn with discarded rose colored glasses.
Those not working are waxing their cars with Red Sox shirts.

  112. Yanksrule57

You know, I rarely watch Baseball Tonight since they canned Harold Reynolds. To me he was the only person on there who knew what he was talking about. So does anyone know if now they are now on the Yankee bandwagon? I did see that they were writing them off earlier in the year. And Steve Phillips was saying only a couple of weeks ago that the Yankees wouldn’t even make the post-season!
If we all did our jobs as poorly as these people we would be looking for work!
