The Yankees fired third-base coach Bobby Meacham yesterday.
The Post reported today that Meacham and bullpen coach Mike Harkey lived with Girardi at his home in Westchester during the season. Those were the two coaches Girardi picked for his staff and they were with him Florida. No wonder the impression within the clubhouse was that Girardi leaned too heavily on his friends for advice at the expense of his other coaches.
That was the case in Florida as well, apparently. Normally the hiring of a coach is a fairly low-key move in the construction of a team. But who the Yankees choose for the staff this time will be interesting.
The Rays pounded the Red Sox in Game 4 of the ALCS and lead the series three games to one. Boston has survived tougher spots than this, however.
It has been a long comeback for Rocco Baldelli, who is enjoying being part of the Rays’ ride.
