i hear the padres wan't two pitchers and a near ml ready centerfielder.

no way the yankees should do this.it will cost hughes,kennedy,gardner/melky/ajax.

way to much.if hughes turns into a great pitcher wich i think he wii the yankees get burned.

this can easily be done without giving up the top prospects.

hughes,ajax,melancon,brackman,montero can be kept.

the key is we need to sign 2 pitchers, sabathia, dempster.this makes it so we won't have to trade for pitching.

i would love to get gonzalez and i think cano and a prospect or two can get it done.

gonzalez put up arod numbers this year,it fixes first base, same age as cano, cheap contract.

play gardner in centerfield.

It seems that the Yankees intend on having a payroll bigger than the 180 million Cashman claimed they would have hext year.

You can't get more than a stop gap without Hughes, IMO.

The problem with our prospects is that there is Hughes and there is everyone else. We have no 2nd tier guys. The drop off from Hughes to Kennedy is dramatic. Jackson, Melancon etc. don't have singular value even if they are combined (as we saw with the Santana trade), they need to be paired with a Hughes in order to get someone big.

For example, we don't have what it takes to get a Kemp. Hughes is too much to give up for him and Kennedy isin't anywhere close to enough to get him.

Now, if Votto, Loney, Gonzalez, Bruce etc. is involved, a top flight young position player, then its fair to trade Hughes. But if you want guys just below that level (Kemp, Ethier, McLouth, etc.) then you have to overpay.

Our farm is very imbalanced right now. In a few years (assuming everything goes right), we'll have plenty of ammunition to make trades that teams like the Braves and Dodgers can, but we don't have that ability right now.

There is absolutely no reason why Ian Kennedy or Melky Cabrera should be considered untouchable status along with several players still on the 40-man roster. A year has changed things for them and they should be part of any trade package.
The old adage applies . . . nothing for nothing in this world.
