DVAB - You need to do your math a little better or else Joba Chamberlain lost about 130 pounds after the season ended. A guy weighing 230 pounds needs to drink about 8 beers in an hour to get to a .13. 8 beers in an hour. Or one every 7 1/2 minutes. Of course, very few people go out drinking for just one hour, but I'm curious as to why you think he was only drinking one hour.

NEVER condoning his actions...but... those of you that think that at 0.134, that he was anywhere NEAR severly impaired, have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Most everyone is right at 0.08 BAC after just 2 drinks in a 1 hour period. Joba basically had the equivilant of 3 beers in his system when he was pulled over. Smart...definitely not....WASTED ? NO FRICKIN' WAY !

If there's a quality about this Rays team to be envious of and one as a Yankee fan I wish would be adopted, it's their flexability which Cashman speaks a lot of doing in 2009.
If there's an unsung hero on that team it's Willy Aybar who filled in admirably when Longoria, Crawford, and Pena went down for stretches and the team didn't miss a beat.
They platooned well in RF with Gross, Baldelli, Floyd, and Ben Zobrist. Maddon used all 25 players with a strategy and knew when to rest certain players against certain teams.
Their major league scouting staff must be special also.

.13 is probably just about the average DWI arrest. Is that good news or bad news? Well, at least it wasn't a .32 or something in that range. The bad news is that it IS pretty high for the average person. And nevermind the open container, the fact that Joba was speeding with a BAC that high is very dangerous.

Get over it and deal with it Ray (socks fan). The Sux and their fans are way high with the most disliked in the U.S. and it's plainly because they've never grasped the understanding of winning with class as evidenced by their silliness since 2004. They've never understood how to accept winning without making fools of themselves as evidenced in parades. Perhaps eating humble pie will teach a lesson but it remains to be seen after generations of losing.
The little brother act of "Hey look at me, I've got new shoes" just doesn't cut it.

Garland is ordinary, no interest. Houston is too close to contention to deal Oswalt. They are likely players for Ben Sheets or Jake Peavy instead. I don't see any standout starters that will be on the trading block so the Yanks may have to consider B-list types like Randy Wolfe who finish strongly for the Astros.

Baldelli is an excellent idea as a guy who can share CF with either Cabrera or Gardner with whoever is not playing improving the bench.

I too think Andruw Jones is done unless he drops about 40 pounds, but the thought is not a bad one. The Yanks can use their payroll flexibility to make a deal.. ie: you take on bad contracts to finalize a deal that's in your favor.. Jones, Juan Pierre, Carlos Guillen, Eric Byrnes, Aaron Rowand, Randy Wynn, Austin Kearns, Jack Wilson, Carlos Silva, Jared Washburn are among the many in that category.

Another category I won't explore at this time but will later are guys one year from free agency that teams will try to move if they are convinced the guy is leaving at the end of the year.

There are many ways to put together a contender in 2009 and I bet the Yanks have to you most if not all of them

And Ray, I'm not talking discussions seasons later. I'm talking about what players say after their team is no longer in the postseason, when they are interviewed by the media once their team has been eliminated, the way your large complainer was.

CCWANGPEAVYJOBABURNETT
October 20th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
TB built a great team cause they had 1st rounders for like 10 straight years
------------------------------------------------------------

true but they still made the right picks.

did you know that most of the great players in the game were much lower picks than a lot of higher picks that are terrible players now?

the yankees also traded some great players when they signed older free agents.they lost pena and navarro from the rays.

there is you're first baseman and catcher for the next decade.

HUGE MISTAKES.
