Now that the World Series is upon us, don’t expect a lot of baseball news other than from St. Pete and Philly.
Per orders of MLB, teams are not allowed to make any announcements during the Series. You need to get permission of the commissioner and given the fear that this will be the lowest-rated Series in years, that permission won’t be granted unless there is a good reason.
Once the Series ends and players can file for free agency, that’s when the Hot Stove will light up.
Meanwhile, interesting note in the Boston Globe today. Had the Red Sox taken the lead in Game 7 of the ALCS, Jonathan Papelbon might not have been able to close the game. Seems he was tired. Making all those mean faces and pointing at everybody after a save really wears a guy out, apparently.
Heard from another source that the Red Sox were planning to use Daisuke Matsuzaka to close. That certainly would have been interesting.
