Hughes the starter in Rising Stars

Peter Abraham
October
24

Phil Hughes, the pride of the Yankees (at least for now) will start in the Rising Stars game in Arizona tonight. It’s a 7:15 MST start. He will oppose Atlanta prospect Tommy Hanson, who is one of the players the Padres could want for Jake Peavy.

Expect many scouts there to watch those guys pitch.

You can follow the game on MLB.com’s AFL page.

It’s Weird Combination time here on the blog.

What do A-Rod, Tony Hawk, Kobe Bryant and Michael Phelps have in common? They did a commercial for Guitar Hero World Tour directed by Brett Ratner. It’s worth a watch.

Meanwhile, the trio of Billy Beane, John Kerry and Newt Gingrich wrote an op-ed piece for the Times suggesting that SABR-type stats can be used to improve the health care system in the United States. Maybe they can tackle the economy next.

had this on last post, but, I’ll post it here too:

Found this on one of Law’s chats and I thought it was interesting:

Sam (San Jose, CA): Is a Hughes for Votto trade fair? Who wins?

Keith Law: No, I’d much rather have Hughes.

Its from sept 25 of this year.

John Kerry and Newt Gingrich write an Op-Ed piece together for NY Times??!!

    The apocalypse is nigh!!!

That commerial’s pretty funny. Although I didn’t need to see these guys in their drawers, at least Arod is showing some personality for a change. He should get some healthy ribbing in the clubhouse next season for that one.

  4. mel from Taco Bell

Kobe’s the smart one for wearing basketball shorts.

But it was nice to see A-rod goof it up, like I suggested. :)

And the PR campaign begins, pat.

  5. S.A.-Looking forward to 2009 and show CC the money (and food)!

That commercial was pretty funny! :D

It’s not like they were wearing tighty-whiteys. Tom Brady would have rounded out tht group nicely- darn that ACL injury.

Anything that John Kerry touches turns to poop. Talk about a blowhard.

I like the writing in that article.

“…once accused rapist Kobe Bryant, who also plays basketball.” Excellent!
