Big move for Bronx Banter

One question I get all the time is why did I start this blog?

The answer goes back to 2004 when I wrote a feature story about fan blogs and centered it on Alex Belth and Bronx Banter. After writing the story, I continued reading Alex’s blog – and many others – and found myself envious of the writers. I was limited by the space in my newspaper and conventional baseball writing; they had no such restrictions. Alex wrote about Chad Curtis one day and Kurtis Blow the next.

I convinced my editors at The Journal News to let me blog about the Winter Meetings in 2005 in Dallas. That led to the blog you’re reading now.

Bronx Banter kept improving and now Alex has taken another step, joining the SNY.TV Blog Network. That is where you’ll find Bronx Banter from now on.

In further good news, Alex has recruited Todd Drew to work with him. Todd is one of our readers who started his own blog, Yankees for Justice. If you haven’t read his work, you should.

Alex also has his old crew – Cliff Corcoran, Bruce Markusen, Emma Span and Will Weiss – going along and retains full editorial control of what he is doing.

Fred Harner of SNY.TV has made some good moves with his blog network. He previously signed up Steve Lombardi’s Was Watching and the ground-breaking Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog fame. SNY gets it.

So please join me in wishing Alex and Todd well in their new venture. And make sure you fix your bookmark. If you weren’t reading Bronx Banter before, get on it.

Blogs are starting to go legit. I wonder how Buzz Bissinger feels about this.

    Congrats all around.

Yankees for Justice is good, but I think it’s occasionally overwritten and overly precious.

    Still, I do enjoy it.

Our old Buddy Luis Vizcaino (Rockies Releiver) has been arrested in Tampa for drunken-driving and speeding 71 mph in a 45 mph zone.

    From the previous thread -

Quoting Keith Law isin’t exactly a ringing endorsement considering that 2 weeks ago, Law said Hughes is a #3 and his curve wasn’t a plus pitch in one of his chats– I remember because that comment caused a huge stir on this blog with Anti-Keith Law sentiment. Now, I agree with that assessment from Law, but these scouts opinions change from week to week. He has always flip-flipped on prospects.

    Best of luck to everyone.

Alex and Steve are amazing writers; Todd is an amazing writer and a great humanitarian.

The Yankees need to open a criminal investigation. One of the coaches stole Hughes’ sneaky fastball.

If it’s mechanical, Nardi will fix it.

Hughes and Marquez got off to good starts in AFL. Since then all 3 pitchers have struggled.

Russo, after a rough start is doing really well.

Who moves up to AAA? The whole Trenton team can’t go, there’d be a logjam at Scranton.

Jackson & Russo for sure. Who else?

I find the enjoyment of a blog is directly proportional to the authenticity of the writing combined with the writing style.

The many blogs written by well-meaning fans who watch the games on YES or online hold very little attraction compared to an actual reporter like P.A. who is in there behind the scenes each day. It is this inside info that can come out in this informal setting that makes blogs like this one stand out.

Philly needs to finish them off tonight… don’t want to have to go back to Tampa with the matchups in their favor.

Thanks for the info Pete I’ll be sure to check it out. World Series over tonight I see a gem from Hamels.

if you don’t care to have the liberal sledgehammer beating you down, then yankees for justice is your place. if you’re seek of the liberal brainwashing we’re all subject to, don’t bother.

Lombardi at Was Watching is nothing but a disaster. It’s nice to see that SNY will have a logical Yankee voice now.
