RAYS
Iwamura 2B
Crawford LF
Upton CF
Pena 1B
Longoria 3B

PHILLIES

Utley 2B

Burrell LF
Victorino CF

Hamels LHP
Notes: A little lineup change for the Rays as Crawford moves up into the No. 2 spot. … The game is on Fox at 8 p.m., weather permitting. … The Phillies, of course, lead the Series 3-1 and can win their first title since 1980. The city of Philly has gone 25 years without a title of any kind. Hopefully Tyler Kepner doesn’t overturning cars on Broad Street if the Phils win.

Why do people celebrate like savages and destroy their own cities simply because their team wins a championship? I mean act like you’ve been there before.
I wasn’t born during the last Knicks championship, so maybe I’ll act up next time they when one, that is if I’m alive the next time they win. It could be decades.
Methinks the Rays will take this game. Methinks the Phils will take the series.
And to reaffirm support anyway – GO RAYS!
Not going to lie, i just wish this world series would end, i want the offseason action to begin!
Final score 5-3 Phillies.

beware of a phishing mission by some top-notch loser who is parading as the USO looking for people to donate phone cards. The email address looked pretty unofficial, so I called the USO to ask about it, and it is indeed a phishing mission. Of course, they make the site look like the USO site, and they solicit your credit-card information under the guise of having you donate money for a phone card.
I no longer ask how low people are willing to sink because when I do, I eventually find out that it’s lower than I ever imagine.
Go Phillies!
Alas, a five page paper will prohibit me from watching the game, oh well, such is life.
Rebecca, what’s the topic of the paper?
4-2 Phillies.
Repost:
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I agree with S.o.S.
Can’t cheer for a division rival, especially the Sox and on a less evil level the Rays.
They’re a nice story, Maddon’s a good manager, but they’ve got some punks on that team. Not everyone, but you play with an edge when it’s you against the world.
If we did some of what they did, playing goon ball in spring training people would kill us. If our closer bitched about balls & strikes in the media we’d look like crybabies. Just because they went from worst to first doesn’t mean I HAVE to like them. And I’m tired of the media telling me so.
So ready for the book to close on this season. Please, Cole, Save our Souls.
Rebecca -
I’ll bet your paper is more exciting than the game.
I thought I’d enjoy watching a world series I didn’t care about. Well, I was wrong. It’s better than getting a tooth pulled, mind you, but I’d even prefer rooting for some one to lose to not caring either way.
Let’s go Yankees…clap clap clap
mel, my response to your post (I posted it below also)
October 27th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Maybe Maddon got tired of his kids being treated with total disrespect and figured that other teams “play hard†and he wasn’t going to publicly berate his players for playing hard. Who knows? And who knows what he said behind closed doors. Anyway, I never thought about it in terms of division rivals (except for the Sux) but more in terms of the AL and the NL (escept for the Sux). Hell the WEEI guys are rooting for the Rays!
But it matters not to me. As my dad would always tell us, you jig your way and I’ll jig mine. As long as none of us are riverdancing who cares????
Going to be a lovely night for the most important game of the baseball season. Temps in the 40’s and 25 mph winds.
I’m glad that Bud Selig, in his infite wisdom, has scheduled another WBC affair this year and ensures Game 7 of the 2009 World Series will be played on Nov 5.It’s going to be cccccolllldddd in the new Stadium that night!:)
trisha,
Of course I respect your opinion. I would never try to convince you of anything.
But from my POV, the Rays weren’t cute when they won the division and they won’t be cute when they contend next season.
They are just as dangerous, or more, than the Sox. Just without the history.
infite = infinite.
Infite is what Manny and Youkalis got into.
No one gave me the repost memo.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I agree with S.o.S.â€
music to my ears. Thanks bff.
Saucy i agree. I think if he came out and said that those acts arent acceptable. That he would have a talk with the kid. Duncan doesnt retaliate.
Just passing through,
This blog is like any dynasty team. Yes sj,whozat,cb,hmmm,gb,fredo, are our backbone all stars. But you cant be successful without role players. We have very valuable role players in here that make it very well balanced. All i can say is you dont have to read the pinch hitters comments.Pavano.
7-3 phillies
To avoid a jinx, I don’t want say anything right now. But I’ve seen some amazing things in this World Series.
Tom and Doreen: How much do you know about Anne Boleyn?
Was she the one with six fingers?
I know she had her head lopped off.
Rebecca,
She was a whore!
Just kidding. Are you talking about the American divorcee who married the English prince?
The sooner this series ends, the faster we get to free agency and the off season building of the team.
Go Phils. End it now.
“Game 7 of the 2009 World Series will be played on Nov 5.It’s going to be cccccolllldddd in the new Stadium that night!:)”
Yes, it will be. Peter Gammons might want to pack his parka for that game
Enough to know that that’s great topic for a paper!
wasn’t she King Henry’s wife?
“The sooner this series ends, the faster we get to free agency and the off season building of the team.
Go Phils. End it now.”
Thats what iv been saying all along. End this awfull post season and let us wake up from this nightmare. Off season cant come soon enough.
Do I sense a teaching opportunity here?
(She was Henry VIII’s second wife, r. 1533-1536, lived c. 1501-1536 )
I was rooting for the Rays. Now I’m just rooting for it to be over. Phillies are wack though. I understand the Met Fans contempt for them.
So the food is prepped, dishes clean, table set. Let’s fire up the stove and start cooking!
MLBTR reported a possible 4yr/100 mil offer to CC from the Brews? Don’t think that one’s got quite the distance.
nice day for yankee AFL hitters
A Jax 2 for 3 with a walk 1 run scored and 1 rbi 0 k’s (hasnt k’ed in roughly 13 abs) batting .288 now
Russon 2 for 4 with 2 doubles 1 rbi and 1 bb batting .385 now
Rebecca, is it just a bio paper?
When do teams and players have to exercise their options?
does the movie Boleyn’s sisters has anything to do with Anne Boleyn? I never saw the movie, so im just curious.
Mel -
I think starting next week during the GM meetings.
“Game 7 of the 2009 World Series will be played on Nov 5.It’s going to be cccccolllldddd in the new Stadium that night!:)â€
I’m pulling for a NL all star win and a WS sweep. When is game 4 being played.
Mel, I think there’s a two week window after the WS when teams and players have to decide.
Tom: No. It’s more of a reaction to a biography written about her.
Ed: YEs, but it’s horribly inaccurate.
Its going to rain all night (not heavy, they’ll still play)
so that favors the Rays
Whos the hero tonight?
Ill go with Utley.
I can’t believe they cut Pat Ewing JR
Hate to say it, but Isiah is a better exec. than Walsh. Atleast he had an eye for talent.
Hero tonight will be Price
He will get a 4 inning save. Maddon is taking no chances tonight.
PE Jr. and Kobe Carl can go cry in their beer together. Carl Jr. got cut, too.
The hero will be Pat Burrell
id say garza will be player of the game tonight
So did Dj Strawberry.
Rebecca –
oh okay. thanks. how’s the movie overall? worth watching it?
Bronx Jeers -
Pish-Tosh! It’s going to be Indian Summer in New York during the first week of next November! Perfect baseball weather for the best World Series Baseball Team EVER!!!!
Or it’s going to snow.
“id say garza will be player of the game tonight”
Garza isn’t even pitching.
“MLBTR reported a possible 4yr/100 mil offer to CC from the Brews? Don’t think that one’s got quite the distance.”
I find it hard to believe that the Brewers would go that high per year for CC, as it would kill them in any other moves they need to make. They would have to trade some players away who stand to earn more, as well as not having other starting pitching good enough to help take some pressure off CC. They also couldn’t abuse CC as they did this year with all those short starts in a row, as it could kill their committment.
The dollars per might be OK, but lack of support and having one player take up more than a quarter of their payroll would kill them. Their payroll would have to jump up to 90 – 100 million to do that and I really don’t see it happening.
I think its a pipe dream for the Brewers to really look to do that.
Tom,
Almost got a D-league team there. George Karl will probably be available soon to coach them.
You can’t beat the Viz, but he fought the law and the law won.
Stopped for going 71 in a 45 mph. In Tampa.
Just over the legal limit…of necklaces.
Oops. Forgot to add, booked on suspicion of DUI.
Go Phillies!

nonetheless, it is a token offer. Milwaukee knows full well, it will take much more.
Atleast our ace Joba was closer to the speed limit than Viz was
“Hate to say it, but Isiah is a better exec. than Walsh. Atleast he had an eye for talent.”
Like overpaying for players no one wanted like Jerome James and Jared Jeffries? Please.
To be honest, if a West Coast team doesn’t make a competitive bid for CC, I could see him taking that Milwaukee deal.
And if he does, I commend him for it and not wasting our time just to drive up the price and fool himself into wanting to pitch in NY if he truly doesn’t want to.
71 MPH seems to be the unlucky (or lucky) speed to drive these days.
You’re not supposed to speed (or drive) when you’re drunk.
At least Joba didn’t fail a field test like Viz.
Vinny, I am not so sure that the offer is even going to be given by the Brewers. If CC were accept, which seems doubtful but you never know, it could cripple them if he were out for any period of time.
I think CC is looking for years as well so he can land somewhere to call “home”. Players of his level start looking at legacy at this point in his career and look to have a team they can be associated with.
MIL would NEVER be able to field a competitive team with CC taking that much payroll. They’d have to get rid of Fielder or Hardy alone just to do it. Sheets is gone anyway. They still have no bullpen. It required another choke from the Mets for them to even make the playoffs. How are going to fix their other weaknesses?
Very bad business decision for them to do that.
Ed: I don’t know, I didn’t see the movie.
And apparently those Phiten titanium necklaces do not help you beat a breathalyzer!
SOS27….Where are they…Do they just not come on when the postings are so putrid…Reading some of the responses are just silly..Does anybody know anything about baseball ….I read dribble and comical nonsense….

Are we really going to compare DUIs?
But nothing is certain – ex-Yankee Doug Mientkiewicz was quoted in USA Today in September saying that Sabathia had told him of New York, “I’m not going to go there.”
http://www.nydailynews.com/spo.....s_and.html
That article just quotes the original USA Today quote -
“I told him, ‘How’s $250 million going to look in New York?’ ” says Pirates infielder Doug Mientkiewicz, who played for the Yankees in 2007. “He told me, ‘I’m not going to go there.’ I said, ‘Trust me, dude, you’ll love it there.’ He could handle pitching in New York. He could handle pitching on Mars.”

I’m headed out, but I’m running a little contest.
Just a mental exercise for us mental midgets.

I almost never post dribble.
I’m occasionally guilty of posting DRIVEL though.

yup. Don’t see him taking the deal, either. If the reported offer is valid, it is basically to appease the fan base.

I’m praying my house in Philly will still be standing when I return there on Thursday evening, and that all my roommates are still alive. Seriously, I am actually starting to get a bit nervous about this….someone tell me I’m overreacting?
I’m on page one of the paper.
Over/under on the time I finish? It’s due at 4.45 tomorrow but I need it to be done at 3.45 to have enough time to print it.
Joe Buck has such a perfect announcing voice.
Good luck Philly!
Rebecca, 5 pages Hmm. I’ll say 1:30AM.

I would like to say you are overreacting, but honestly..if Philly wins tonight..that city is gonna go buck wild.
Good Luck!
Tom: Mmm, but you haven’t taken my ADHD into account

What’s your address? I’ll stand guard.
Tampa 7 Phillies 2, back to the gladbag.
Haha, thanks for the encouragement guys!
I live by Fairmount near the zoo…hence my apprehension…I’m sure there will be tons of security and whatnot downtown, but if my neighborhood went up in flames the cops would probably throw a party!

Actually, Simpson married King Edward VIII, who then abdicated infavor of his brother George VI, Elizabeth’s father..
I thought the glad bag was the Metrodome?
GB: But maybe he was using prince in the original sense, princeps, which simply means “ruler”?
Yikes, McNabb reading the lineup? Thats gotta be bad luck!
Hahahaha, he called Pat the Bat “The Ladies Man”
Joe Maddon a native of Hazleton Pa. with his earflaps down like he’s at McMurdo.
Impressive.

The flyin Hawaiian strikes!! WOOHOO
Niiiice Victorino
Now that crowd sounded like a WS crowd. Into every pitch. It was great!
Why does FOX insist on playing the Rocky theme at every commercial break? I get it already, the Phillies are in the World Series. They did the same think in the LCS when they played “I Love LA” every commercial break. It’s so annoying in its repetitiveness — just give it a rest already.
They know what they’re seein
They could rep Philly a lot less annoyingly by playing the Dead Milkmen every commercial break! Just sayin…
I agree. The Rocky theme is Cliché. Why not “Philadelphia Freedom”
Philadelphia Freedom would be great, anything to break up the repetitiveness haha.
Actually, Simpson married King Edward VIII, who then abdicated infavor of his brother George VI, Elizabeth’s father..
Yes, he was a prince because of his abdication, because of her. Most people forget that he was actually the King.
I’m sure the Royal family WISHED they could go all Ann Boelyn on her for that, though.
Funny to think that Lizzie wouldn’t be Queen now, if not for that happening.
*Boleyn* even .. ugh my English *royal family* history classes were too long ago.
Wallis Simpson was also a Nazi sympathizer and a huge racist.
Tom: Indeed she was.
I can name all the English monarchs, in order, from 1066-on. I can also tell you how most of them died.
Try me.
How long of a leash can the Kaz possibly have?

OH MY GOD I LOVE BASEBALL SUPERSTITION!
To the Knicks fan:
A quick heads up for all of our New York readers. The NBA and Kia Motors are ringing in the new season in style, putting on a tipoff extravaganza in NYC’s Union Square tomorrow, Tuesday Oct 28th from 7am to 7pm.
It should be a lot of fun, and the price is right – free.
They’re going all out, bringing in a host of former Knicks greats and a few member of the current squad. Some big names for all you old-school Kicks heads will be around, including Spike Lee, John Starks, Charles Smith and Clyde Frazier.
They’re actually building a full-size basketball court on an elevated platform (taking 12 hours to put together) and an 8’ x 10′ video wall and a live broadcast ESPN 1050 Radio with Michael Kay.
For those of us who walk by Union Square every day, that’s pretty hard to imagine, so it’ll be interesting to see how they fit it all in there.
Players and celebrities will be there signing autographs and participating in basketball challenges. Attendees will get a chance to play on the basketball court, win prizes and meet their favorite players.
And best of all, your favorite NBA bloggers here at ETB will be in attendance – just try and pick us out of the crowd.
Times of appearances:
7 – 11am:
Spike Lee, Kareem Abdul Jabaar and Scottie Pippen
12 – 3 (TBA) pm:
John Starks, Charles Smith, Cal Ramsey, Kym Hampton
Kenny Walker, Clyde Frazier, Knicks City Dancers
4 – 6 pm:
David Lee, Nate Robinson, Malik Rose, Danilo Gallinari
Maddie the Mascot (in Knicks jersey)
Tom: To put it delicately, he was murdered in the…erm…excretory region with an iron poker, some thing for reasons of sexual preference, but most consensus is that it was because the murder couldn’t have been seen to leave a mark.
He was murdered on the orders of his wife, Isabella, and her lover, Roger Mortimer.
OT-
I remember a professor in College giving us some lyrics to a song about Ann Boleyn. I just remembered a few of the words and looked it up. Here’s the song!
In the tower of London, large as life, the ghost of Anne Boleyn walks they declare.
Poor Anne Boleyn was once King Henry’s wife until he made the headsman bob her hair.
Ah, yes, he did her wrong long years ago and she comes up at night to tell him so,
Chorus:
With her head tucked underneath her arm she walks the bloody tower,
With her head tucked underneath her arm at the midnight hour.
She comes to haunt King Henry. She means giving him what for. Gadzooks, she’s going to tell him off. She’s feeling very sore,
And just in case the headsman wants to give her an encore, she’s has her head tucked underneath her arm.
(Chorus)
The sentries think that it’s a football that she carries in and when they had a few they shout, “Is Army going to win?”
They think that it’s Red Grange instead of poor old Ann Boleyn with her head tucked underneath her arm.
Sometimes gay King Henry gives a spread for all his pals and gals and ghostly crew.
The headsman carves the joint and cuts the bread then in comes Anne Boleyn to queer the do.
She holds her head up with a wild war whoop and Henry cries, “Don’t drop it in the soup!”
(Chorus)
One night she caught King Henry, he was in the canteen bar. Said he, “Are you Jane Seymour, Anne Boleyn, or Katherine Parr?
How the sweet Saint Maryann do I know who you are with your head tucked underneath your arm?”
I don’t know how I feel about this:
http://i37.tinypic.com/24gr994.jpg
Tom – I think that’s pretty awful.
“I don’t know how I feel about this:
http://i37.tinypic.com/24gr994.jpg”
It is tasteless.
I came in a short while ago and so didn’t see the beginning of the game. But I did just hear either Buck or McCarver say Kazmir was not happy about two pitches that led to the runs in the first inning.
So here is my take. IF Kazmir did indeed get screwed on those pitches, the baseball gods will see that the score is somehow evened and the Rays will make up ground. IF he didn’t get screwed, well then all bets are off!
Any Knicks fan free tomorrow?
http://www.fantasyplayers.com/.....M_ID=52746
I apologize. For posting that ugliness. It was poor tast.
taste
GO RAYS!
Tom, you just linked to it, you didn’t write it. And you also questioned whether it was in good taste. So I don’t fault you for that website.
Good job trisha
Boy is Navarro slow!
jen, how can you fault me for that? I’m rooting for the Rays! You gotta love how it works though. I absolutely thrill to baseball superstitions and how they always seem to work!
Crazy huh?
You know, some of us are rooting for the Phillies…
jen, I am not going to be upset if the Phils win though. I think the Rays have done an phenomenal job and will have nothing to be ashamed of if they don’t win it all. I think the Phils have what it takes to win the world series. But I am enjoying seeing them battle it out.
“You know, some of us are rooting for the Phillies…”
And some of us are rooting for the Rays.
I guess I am missing your point Rebecca.
I’m not telling you not to root for the Phillies am I? Nor would I be bent out of shape if someone put the hex on the Rays if they were pitching a no hitter!
Oh damn that hit his finger. OUCH!!!
Well to be fair to Trisha, if Kay were doing this game he would have said “Hamels is pitching a no-hitter” before every pitch.
“Well to be fair to Trisha, if Kay were doing this game he would have said “Hamels is pitching a no-hitter†before every pitch.”
Tom, actually Joe Buck was the one who announced it! I had no idea Hamels was pitching a no hitter at that point because I had just come in!
Kazmir seems afraid to pitch in.
Trisha, it was said in jest
Even though I am rooting for the Phillies.
Rebecca sorry about that! I should have read the humor and I didn’t.
Actually I probably haven’t ever been so on the fence between two teams as I am these two. Only my longstanding loyalty to the Rays is making the difference here. I do think the Phils will take it all, and I will not be upset when they do!
That was a strike by the way.
NICE JOB SCOTTY!!!
The kid just earned his salary for the season.
I said before and I think it’s true. Kazmir is not afraid to bring it. His cockiness/self confidence serves him well.
NICE JOB SCOTTY!!!

I said before and I think it’s true. Kazmir is not afraid to bring it. His self confidence serves him well.
(This wouldn’t post because I used the word “coc*iness” only spelled it. Go figure!)
Wow the field starting to look icky!!
I live a few blocks from Union Square. I so would love to say hello to MKay. I love to hate him.
A pitcher can’t save bullpen for his team can’t be called an ACE in my opinion.
Wonder if any world series have been won with a game shortened by a rainout? That would be really upsetting to the losing team I am sure!
Someday the Commiss office will realize that dragging out the first round of the playoffs has a direct effect on the playing conditions for the WS….This is just nuts for these teams to be playing for the World Championships in this crap…..
The umpire does suck.
Does anybody know how the umpires are picked for world series. These can’t be the best ones. They are terrible.
Trisha: I can’t see any reason they’d ever do that. They’d suspend the game, I think.
They’ll never change it back because money drives it, but, at least two of the games in the WS should be day games.
Rebecca – I would hope so.
Does anyone know how they select the umpires for the world series. They have been terrible the whole series. They can’t be the best.
jeez
The weather is nasty
fastball pitcher vs fastball masher. hmmm
If they would play @4 or 5 doubleheaders during the season, and eliminate a few unnecessary off-days during the post-season, the WS would have been over 5-10 days ago.
If there is justice, the Rays will get out of this inning unscathed. It is just wrong for an umpire to get it so wrong and cause runs to be scored that shouldn’t score and a pitcher to be pulled from a game for walks that weren’t really walks. Especially in the world series, especially in the potential last game of the world series.

“Someday the Commiss office will realize that dragging out the first round of the playoffs has a direct effect on the playing conditions for the WS….This is just nuts for these teams to be playing for the World Championships in this crap…..”
I know this will never happen for economic reasons, but just the same I have thought for a long time that it would make sense to knock off about 12 games from the regular season.
It may sound like heresy but wouldn’t 150 games be enough?
Starting around the first of April for some ballparks means the same type of conditions tonight and even snow in some cases.
Knock a few games off and start a little later and end a little sooner for the regular season……..I know it will never happen.
Nasty weather or not if I’m a Philly fan it would take a monsoon for me not to be in that seat.
Justice.
Thank you baseball gods.
GB7, I agree with about the TV dough, but they space the first round games too much…..Especially when two networks are covering the games…Besides it seems like every year, The NL team is sitting around for a week…..No reason for this, it’s not for the betterment of the game…..
Mark in Tampa, I agree. play 1-2 doubleheaders a month.
I also think that baseball should have 1-2 days a month where every team should be off. That way the only games scheduled are make-up games from that month.
Why not start the season earlier?
“Why not start the season earlier?”
Another option, but the Yanks and other cold-weather teams would have to start on the road every year for at least the first 3 or 4 series. Good way to start every year in the hole when you are on the road against the Angels to start every season.
The best options for shortening the season are either eliminating one playoff series or removing interleague play.
I’d go with the latter if I had to choose.
If you’re the Rays you have got to be pissed blind.
Is ANYBODY else noticing the difference in strike zone for the two teams?????
Seriously, for the Rays to lose this game on bad calls is just beserk.
The schedule makers still set games in the cold cities while many warm city and dome sites sit empty….It happens far too many times…Shame the owners and the player assoc. look down on the old traditional DH on holidays…Memorial day was always a doubleheader….Now some teams are actually off……154 game schedule is gone , so therefore the first round will still best of 5 which is bs anyway….
Anyone have the doppler readings in Philly ?
BTW Buck sounds like an idiot if he thinks that MLB will suspend or stop play this game.
Given the teams involved, the generally poor overall play, terrible umpiring, and the weather, will this be the least memorable series ever? Can they just strike it from the record, and next year counts as two? (If the Yanks win)
It could be a very dangerous night in Philly tonight. This is almost like the game we played vs KC…MEANWHILE SHUT UP BUCK !! JUST SHUT UP ! It’s the World Series that’s how they can make that noise !
And there is baseball justice.
Thank you again baseball gods.
Brandon, gonna rain all night.
eek
2-2 and the rain is here to stay
and it’s tied
This is a total embaressment….Selig is a schmuck…..
At this rate Shane Victorino is going to score the winning run by surfing home.
Trisha,
The umps are just trying to help the Phillies clinch tonight so that the rain can help put out all of the car fires sure to be set.
Why don’t they call the game now?
Good move.
“At this rate Shane Victorino is going to score the winning run by surfing home.”
that’s why he’s the flying Hawaiian. lol
Mark in Tampa -
LMAO!!!!!
So now they put the tarp?
BJ Upton and Pena just earned themselves a muffin basket from Bud Selig.
After the Rays tie they have a delay. How convenient.
Sounds like the game is not going to start up again tonight.
If this isn’t the stupidest ….. I’ve ever seen in my life. My god we played in worse weather in KC just continue the game it’s not that horrid.
“BJ Upton and Pena just earned themselves a muffin basket from Bud Selig.”
Brief explanation?
“After the Rays tie they have a delay. How convenient.”
Oh common. You cant win a world series like that. It cheapens it.
This is just a disaster
“After the Rays tie they have a delay. How convenient.”
Tom, that actually saved MLB in a lot of ways, because the umpiring was so atrocious that the Phils wouldn’t even be on the board right now if it wasn’t for bad calls! If the Phils took the game without the Rays tying, it just would not have left a good taste.
It’s not like it’s the 3rd inning, they are in the btm. of the 6th ! What an embarrassment by MLB.
Rain in the forecast in Philly for Tuesday and rain and snow showers for Wednesday.
“Brief explanation?”
They got him off the hook by getting that run in. If they didnt get that run in they would have played 9 innings in the rain.
so they wait tim the rays tie the game THEN delay what a joke MLB is in these instances. Now we lose hamels
what a stupid rule!! Had the series ended in that way that would have been terrible for baseball. All playoff games should have to be played a full 9 innings.
Very true Trish. It was one of those “Damned if you do Damned if you don’t” type things.
yankeenate I agree with you totally. MLB really drops the ball on a lot of things.
‘Tom, that actually saved MLB in a lot of ways, because the umpiring was so atrocious that the Phils wouldn’t even be on the board right now if it wasn’t for bad calls! If the Phils took the game without the Rays tying, it just would not have left a good taste.’
Agreed. I’m a little behind watching on tivo, but the plate umpire is just an embarrassment to this game. A shame.
They should have just played the 9 innings in the rain. Hey no one controls the weather but a World Series game where Hamels is pitching another gem to be stopped in the btm. of the 6th. We played in worse weather than that, we played through worse than that.
This is a disaster for MLB. What a garbage series. 2 teams no one outside of their small market cares about. A couple of snoozefest games, horrible officiating and now this rain suspended game.
They should just find the nearest dome or field where it’s not pouring and finish this game in the relative obscurity it deserves.

you free tomorrow? http://www.realgm.com/boards/v.....p?t=846615
Good God Selig is a moron. He just had to have 5 days off between Game 7 of the LCS and Game 1 of the WS, didn’t he?!? There is no need to eliminate interleague (c’mon, you know you like watching Moose hit) or chop 11 games or a playoff series off the sched…just have the WS start immediately after the LCS! I’ve never known there to be such a gap between the two in the past anyway. You almost have to love that the first time they try it, this happens.
It doesn’t look like they will be able to resume play again tonight, for all you Doppler watchers out there, am I right?
On the bright side I guess my house and loved ones are safe one more day, ha. But this is such a letdown…and
“I can name all the English monarchs, in order, from 1066-on. I can also tell you how most of them died.”
Heh. That’s pretty impressive, Rebecca.
I probably could too, if pushed. But then I went to school and college in a Commonwealth nation – we were indoctrinated and had no choice.
“But this is such a letdown…and…”
…and one more day until the Yankees can make announcements now! :\
Could the FOX guys be rooting anymore obviously for the Rays?
Yech.
Where the hell is that old guy with the giant red umbrella when you need him?
“so they wait tim the rays tie the game THEN delay what a joke MLB is in these instances. Now we lose hamels”
I thought exactly the same thing, Gayle.
BBB, I doubt they are going to get this game started again tonight. They were saying the weather forecast is for more of the same, and for a long while to come. They should just call it and send everyone home and let them get some sleep.
lol, saucY.
Why do I have a feeling I’ll be watchin NBA before MLB resumes?
Ed, I work tomorrow and I’m not skipping work for the Knicks right now.
“It doesn’t look like they will be able to resume play again tonight, for all you Doppler watchers out there, am I right? ”
Im wondering if they can get it in tomorrow even.
Brandon, This the World Series, baseball’s showcase….Besides, the players are glad it’s over for the night…..There is nothing worse than playing in 40 degree wet and windy weather….This not April it’s Game 5 of the WS….Your desire for the Phillies to win has compromised your baseball judgement….That field was a swamp….I played in some bad weather games in West Haven in April when the temps was in the 30’s and it rained and was windy, it was beyond miserable….And that was AA & not the World Series…..
““so they wait tim the rays tie the game THEN delay what a joke MLB is in these instances. Now we lose hamelsâ€
and Tampa can still put Price in. Damn, that does suck.
I, too, have to wonder exactly what is so unplayable about the conditions NOW as opposed to 15 minutes ago…

GB7, I agree with about the TV dough, but they space the first round games too much…..Especially when two networks are covering the games…Besides it seems like every year, The NL team is sitting around for a week…..No reason for this, it’s not for the betterment of the game…..
________________________________________________________
I agree. 6 days to finish the divisional playoffs, one day off and 9 days for the league championship series, a day off and 9 days to finish the WS.
In another post you mentioned double headers. It was always DHs on Memorial, Father’s Day, 4th of July and Labor Day and at least 4 Sunday double headers. Now, for the last 4-5 years, you have 6-8 teams not even playing on the holidays.
As as dawn breaks the Phillies celebrate their win – maybe the game is still on in Hawaii before midnight.
Brandon -
LOL ok, cool.
The umpiring has honestly been atrocious all series – for both sides. I’d say its fairly even overall, as to who has benefited from *bad* calls.
So is the general feeling here win at all costs as opposed to win fairly? The biggest joke here is that Kazmir actually pitched a much better game than Hamels and only poor officiating gave the Phils any runs. Wonder how you all would be feeling right now if the ump didn’t blow all those calls against Kazmir and the game was called with the Phillies losing. You’d be crying up a storm that you wanted it to go on.
The way this WS has unfolded with the rain, blown calls, bad scheduling decisions is proof that God is a Yankee fan. Without the Yankees in the playoffs, the man upstairs was gonna make sure they were going to suck!
I’m rooting for the Phillies, but i’m not all that invested to go looking for conspiracy theories about this either.
It sucks for both sides. But quite frankly I’m tired of the FOX guys shoving the Rays down my throat.
The only way they would move the schedule back to a 154 game schedule is to end inter-legue play, contract at least four teams and the players on current contracts get docked 8 games worth of pay until their contracts end….in other words…it ain’t happening.
Trisha -
The pitches were close enough to be called strikes, but were not. They weren’t hideously out of the strike zone. Plus, Victorino did have to get a hit to get the runs in; the runs didn’t score on walks.
However, I agree with Angel. The officiating has not been good the entire series for either team. It’s been pretty spread around.
I don’t see how they resume this game tonight or tomorrow. The guy they interviewed said something about Wednesday. What? Did he mean resume the game Wednesday in TAMPA? Or resume the game Wednesday morning and then fly to Tampa and play at night? Or move the Tampa games back a day if necessary?
This is a mess. But I suppose a suspended game is better than a WS game ending as a rain-shortened game. I suppose.
If they wanted to be fair, they should’ve stopped the game when the basepaths became slippery slides.
And the Rays have gotten plenty of breaks and Meyers got screwed on strike calls, too.
This isn’t about one team or another.
Switching to MNF-The colts don’t look too good
My sister just called from Philly and they are not getting this game in tonight and more than likely not until Wednesday. The rainis supposed to be at its worse starting at midnight. Just unreal how baseball always seems to get themselves in these positions.
Trish not sure what game you were watching but no way that Kazmir pitched better than Hamels if the Phils didnt leave so many men on base as has been their way this series it really should have been 8-1 in the 5th already.
OT – because I just switched the station away from FOX to some other station and they are reporting on the Hudson tragedy. I cannot imagine what Jennifer Hudson is going through right now. To have you mother, brother, and nephew violently taken from you. I sometimes wonder how people survive things like that.
And the Phillies have been disrespected from the beginning of the series. It’s only turning now, because the Phillies are up 3-1 in the series.
Actually, I found it amusing how Buck and McCarver were talking about how the wet basepaths took away the running game of the Rays, and then Upton easily, albeit sloppily, steals second base, setting up the tying run.
And they never recanted. Never said, “I guess it’s not going to stop the Rays from running.”
It’s gonna be raining in Philly till Wed.
I dunno what the heck MLB is gonna do. But this is a mess.
What will baseball do? Change venues? Wait it out? Rain tomorrow? Snow on Wednesday? That would be cool, though

Exactly!!! They actually sounded indignant about it taking away from the “running game” – no mention of it taking away from the Phillies ability to field, which is a part of their game.
news here in philly just said possible snow flurries tomorrow to go with the 50 mph winds hahahahahaha
welcome to the northeast, rays! bet they wish they were in their little dome world right now.
No way they change venues that is not going to happen they are going to have to wait it out. There would be riots in the streets if they move a game out of Philly because of weather.
oooohhh snow could be fun
Selig speaketh frometh the crypt!
perhaps they should begin these games earlier than 830pm!!!!
Angel -
I thought that Rollins certainly would have fielded Upton’s hit cleanly if the field wasn’t slick. Of course, no way to know that for sure.
But these guys do it all the time. Every series. They pick a team and go with it, until the wind changes, at least. You know, they could at least have one guy for one team and one guy for the other. You know, assign a team to a guy.
these phillies phreaks here are gonna go ballistic after paying their thousands of dollars for the tickets
mel – they should have called the game earliler.
The only game I am concerned with is the one in front of us, the one that could mean the world series is over. Did you watch the questech of the calls that went against Kazmir? Two of those calls led to the Phils runs. Two more of the calls ended up with Kazmir being pulled from the game.
They were all in the strike zone, and they were all called balls.
Maybe the Phils wouldn’t have had so many baserunners if the loser behind the plate called the game correctly!
I truly don’t care who wins the game as long as it is won fair and square. AGAIN – I think the Phils will take this world series. AGAIN – I will be happy for them because I think they are a great team.
On the other hand, I like to see things called correctly and fairly.
not to mention they have to pay AGAIN for parking
“And now for yet another complication: The Rays checked out of their hotel in center-city Philadelphia, in anticipation of flying home after the game — and they can’t get back in, because the hotel is sold out.
They’re scrambling to find rooms — somewhere — as we speak.”

What a mess
“And the Phillies have been disrespected from the beginning of the series.”
Not a question. But then I had to hear the television freaks go on and on about how the Sux were going to come back like the Titans to defeat the Rays. Yes, it is annoying isn’t it.
“They actually sounded indignant about it taking away from the “running game”
Haha, my mouth literally dropped open when they said that. I thought I had unknowingly switched over to MNF and the announcers were crying about a dirty hit on LenDale White or something…
Anyway, I too am tired of the Rays slurping from FOX, although I did want the Phillies to win all along, I do even more so now. But I think they themselves would not want to clinch the WS on a rain shortened game. That would be cheap and they’re better than that.
I just don’t want to hear the national media using this as an excuse to bash Philly or, worse, as a rationale why baseball should be played in domes. MLB and Selig have only themselves to blame for scheduling a weeklong layoff between ALCS and WS. They certainly can’t steal one of the Phils’ home games from them so the Series will just hafta stay in Philly till things clear up. It would serve them right for it to have to be played in the snow!!
oh wait, that would shut down Tampa’s running game, and we can’t have that! It’s such a big part of what got them here!
Of all the commissioners, Selig speaks the most defensively. He never accepts blame and when he does, he deflects in the same breath.
“The Rays checked out of their hotel in center-city Philadelphia, in anticipation of flying home after the game—and they can’t get back in, because the hotel is sold out.”
Maybe they should sleep over at the Phillies players house, or just sleep in the stadium??
Very true, Doreen. I mean the rain effects both teams equally, I can’t imagine its easy pitching in those conditions either.
Like someone pointed out, I fail to see the difference in weather between the time they called it and the beginning of the inning.
Honestly, I’m glad its tied in a way though. I can imagine how ballistic people might go if the game had of been called at the same point and the Rays hadn’t tied it. Can you imagine the headlines? Not exactly the way MLB would want a team to win a World Series, I’d imagine.
haha the local news is talking about how phillies fans poured beer on the kids of rays players and the rays families dont wanna be here anymore!!!
“And now for yet another complication: The Rays checked out of their hotel in center-city Philadelphia, in anticipation of flying home after the game—and they can’t get back in, because the hotel is sold out.

Well they can’t stay at my house!
But if they’re really desperate, I know a particularly eccentric panhandler on 15th & Chestnut that might let them share his blanket for the night…
Well, the Rays should have watched the weather report!
Seriously, that’s a lousy turn of events. Scrambling all over the Philly area in awful weather. Shouldn’t their travel person have been working on that once the rain got really bad?
“Of all the commissioners, Selig speaks the most defensively. He never accepts blame and when he does, he deflects in the same breath.”
Those two sentences pretty much succinctly sum up his entire tenure as Commissioner.
LOL BBB.
You’re so damn thoughtful.
LOL BBB
“haha the local news is talking about how phillies fans poured beer on the kids of rays players”
Uh that’s funny? I guess I am missing something here. Two teams battled their butts off all season and have made it to the big dance. Shouldn’t we want conditions to be right for both teams?
Someone dropped the ball here. They must have known about the weather report. Was it a real good idea for the Rays to check out of their rooms? MLB doesn’t seem to be big on plan B.
if i were the rays, id stay far far far out of the city limits tonight haha
im only laughing because i am not surprised…there is always some drama childish crap going on in this city
Angel,
It was also interesting when McCarver pointed out that the Phillies had the advantage because the bats were wet, and the ball was dry. Perhaps the ball starts out dry from the umpire’s pocket, but unless it can go between raindrops, I would have to assume the ball is at least a little wet by the time it reaches the pitcher, and certainly by the time it reaches the catcher’s mitt from the pitcher’s hand. But, then again a wet ball is more of an advantage, no?
McCarver says the strangest things sometimes.
“haha the local news is talking about how phillies fans poured beer on the kids of rays players and the rays families dont wanna be here anymore!!!”
how is that funny? you turd.
World Series will resume from the btm. of the 6th inning on FOX at 8 pm tomorrow. – Bud Selig
We need a new commish.. this guy is a freaking joke. 6 inning he calls the game, he made us play through a monsoon in Kansas City !!!!
its funny to me because i live here and it is typical of some of the stupid people that go to see the phillies
I’ll bet they can find a Motel 6 in somewhere.
They might even let them have towels and soap if they ask really nicely.
Brandon -
it’s a given that Selig hates the Yanks. He made them face the Pirates 2 years in a row during interleague. I figured the Yanks should had faced the Brewers since Boston faced them last year but didn’t faced the Pirates.
My god I feel really bad for the Phillies fan they sat through that whole crap and have to go to work or school w/ an IDK what happened last night. What a moron ! FIRE SELIG !
Haha, Doreen. The ludicrousness of Tim McCarver is almost comforting. If he started to any make sense I’d be wondering what kind of PED’s he was on, or be outside waiting for the meteor that was going to hit any minute.
Even Joba couldn’t throw the ball hard enough so it would miss all the raindrops and stay dry from pitch to bat!!
Then there was that ridiculous game we had to play in Baltimore if you remember. Wasn’t there a hurricane or something and we still had to start it and the Yankees couldn’t get out of Baltimore, or something like that? I know it was an horrendous situation, whatever it was.
Brandon -
don’t forget the infamous All-Star game at Miller Park. Selig had to STOP the game while it was TIED because it was going on for too long.
trisha it really makes no sense they had stupidity in thier thoughts here. It’s the World Series cut the baby crap they should have played at worse the game would have ended 10 mins. ago !
So when the game re-starts, do they go with pitchers from the pen or starters?
Trisha -
it was a isolated thunderstorm coming through. the O’s were complaining that the umpires stopped the game after the Yanks scored runs.
Pat -
most likely the pen starts the game tomorrow.
Anybody have a link to Philly sports radio I want to hear the fans tonight.
lol. I think Maddon just got caught in a lie. He said he wasn’t aware that the league was not going to let the game be played in less than 9 innings. Then he admitted he was aware of something like that.
Ed, I must be thinking about a different game. I don’t remember all of the details just that the game never should have been started and I think the Yanks were not able to get out because there was some hurricane. It was a few seasons ago.
Yep – they were playing in Baltimore, Hurricane Isabel was approaching. They screwed Mike out of a win – thats why I remember, lol.

I think it was either the Tigers or White Sox game. the game started really late like around 11pm.
wip probably has something, brandon, thats our big sports station
Pat,
If it’s Brett Meyers game, I start him. I want to see him hit in the World Series.
*day not game
Trisha – ignore my comment then.
I looked it up. September 18th 2003, it was.
It was quite controversial at the time, even Jeter sounded pissed about it, lol.
“It’s like Christmas got pushed back to New Years. Which is okay, as long as Christmas comes”
If Christmas somehow doesn’t come for the Phillies-oh boy
Thanks Ed, Thunder, SA. I’m going to listen to the WIP link.
“They’re canceling everything around here — schools are canceled, the government left, the Navy’s pulling out, and the Orioles and Yankees are playing baseball,” shortstop Derek Jeter said.
Proof that all it takes is making him play in a hurricane to bring the almost-feisty nature out in Jeter.
“I looked it up. September 18th 2003, it was.”
Wow and ho-ly! I didn’t realize it was that long ago!
brandon wip is the station to listen to
Phillies announcer sound pissed some yelling conspiracy, it should have been let known to both teams that this game was going to be played and finished tonight, now you have 44,000 plus fans pissed and feeling robbed of a World Series game. They sticked it out through the rain they weren’t leaving Selig goofed up big time his people said no rain today and Philly wants to know what radar was he watching, was this an effort to squeeze money off an extra game ? What was this and how could you suspend that game in the btm. of the 6th made no sense, expect alot of backlash.
This is my first time listening to WIP. One of the these guys sounds like a surfer dude for some reason.

Hey – last time I visited Philly – I stayed at a nice Econo Lodge just across the New Jersey border in Bellmawr… it’s got a Dunkin Donuts near by and a 7-11…
Problem solved…
SA he sounds like this guy , the other guy sounds like Brian Kenney w/ a cigar.
Maybe the Rays can stay in Moose’s barn.

The Rays found a place to stay in Wilmington, Delaware

I would stay as close as possible to the Steve’s Prince of Steaks in Bustleton.
