An inconvenient commissioner

1152794640_1336.jpgIt would appear Bud Selig is down with Al Gore and the whole global warming thing. This from the AP:

“Weather is strange. Now today in Milwaukee and Chicago, it’s warm. And it’s supposed to get warm over the weekend, it’s supposed to get warm out East,” Selig said. “So here we’re going into November, and the weather is going to be better than it was a week or two ago. But it is mercurial at this time. I’m always sensitive to it and, look, we’ll review everything.”

There’s your answer to all those scheduling issues: Weather is strange. That about covers it.

    1 Word: Idiot

him and John Kerry. When these guys own only 1 house, drive themselves, fly commercial, and have to actually work VERY hard for their money, then we will talk Global Warming.

  3. Katie October 30th, 2008 at 10:12 pm

    And Al Gore

  4. Tom October 30th, 2008 at 10:15 pm

You know who has always intrigued me as a bench option?

Russell Branyan. in 118 abs this year vs RHP his ops was 1.030. I know he’s not an everyday option, but as a bench guy (1B\3B\RF), I think he’d be alright. 200-250 at bats.

Just make sure he doesn’t ever play vs LHP.

The Joker: dad, is that you? haha

Bud Selig: Yes son, I’m your father. haha

Bud Selig does look like the Joker: http://thesportshernia.typepad....._eagle.jpg

    Bud is an idiot.

  8. Braintrust October 30th, 2008 at 10:20 pm

November is for Elections, Turkey, Football, and Christmas shopping. Not Baseball.

I’m surprised that more players don’t file on the first day. You’d think they’d be counting the minutes until the could.

    He reminds me of Gollum

  11. Jacques October 30th, 2008 at 10:35 pm

then again, can you really argue with him?

  12. #9 October 30th, 2008 at 10:46 pm

Actually Bud seems more down with Dubya:

    No wonder Philly booed him

CFer Willy Tavarez for Ian Kennedy?

    http://bleacherreport.com/arti.....an-kennedy

  15. Ed - looking forward to 2009 October 30th, 2008 at 11:09 pm

    pat -

I wouldn’t buy into that. Tavarez put up the same numbers as Melky, and is a 4th OFer at best. Ian Kennedy for Ryan Spilborghs is more like it!

  16. S.A.-Looking forward to 2009 and show CC the money (and food)! October 30th, 2008 at 11:13 pm

    Bleacher Report-don’t believe

  17. 56Bomber October 30th, 2008 at 11:14 pm

    Tavares = Gardner

  18. Brandon (TEIX IS NOT WORTH IT, GET CC !)..."Don't trade Robi !" October 30th, 2008 at 11:17 pm

It better be him and Morales if it’s Taverez. I’d prefer Fowler or Spilborghs.

Anyway to lighten up the board

  19. Ed - looking forward to 2009 October 30th, 2008 at 11:20 pm

does Orel really have a scar on his nose? LOL.

  20. Tom October 30th, 2008 at 11:30 pm

Willy Taveras is awful. Why trade for him?

  21. Tom October 30th, 2008 at 11:31 pm

I’m sure Joey Gathright would be cheaper. …

  22. Ed - looking forward to 2009 October 30th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

“Willy Taveras is awful. Why trade for him?”

must be a boring night. they could had at least come up with something better.

  23. Tom October 30th, 2008 at 11:34 pm

Who’s the denver post’s George King III?

  24. Ed - looking forward to 2009 October 30th, 2008 at 11:38 pm

Mitch Maier would be another cheap option.

  25. E-Man October 30th, 2008 at 11:49 pm

    “1 Word: Idiot

him and John Kerry. When these guys own only 1 house, drive themselves, fly commercial, and have to actually work VERY hard for their money, then we will talk Global Warming.”

    Uhh.. Global Warming is fact.

Whether it is man-made or a natural cycle is the only thing debatable.

  26. mel October 30th, 2008 at 11:49 pm

Where did Phoenix’s offense go? East of the Rockies with D’antoni.

2 minutes left and the Hornets are beating the Suns 49-35.

  27. miggs October 30th, 2008 at 11:59 pm

Wow its dead in here tonight huh?

  28. jake October 31st, 2008 at 12:02 am

“Ian Kennedy for Ryan Spilborghs is more like it!”

Let’s be honest, Ian Kennedy probably has pretty low trade value right now.

  29. Brandon (TEIX IS NOT WORTH IT, GET CC !)..."Don't trade Robi !" October 31st, 2008 at 12:04 am

Craig Sather’s suit kills the board miggs.

  30. Jo October 31st, 2008 at 12:04 am

Got to love Gore. He preaches global warming and energy conservation and his electric bill every month could pay for 100 middle class families.

  31. Matty October 31st, 2008 at 12:07 am

The Taveras thing sounds like it was started by one of the rubes here.

Maybe one of the guys who begged for Livan Hernandez, Jeff Keppinger, Bronson Arroyo, etc.

  32. mel October 31st, 2008 at 12:11 am

Brackman’s supposed to be pitching tonight, but the weather is foul.

  33. PAT M October 31st, 2008 at 12:13 am

Traveras is just about in the same point in his career as was Micky Rivers was when the Yanks stole him and Ed Fig. for Bobby Bonds back in 1976…..Very similar type players…..I’m not advocating his acquisition as I still believe Kennedy will turn out to be a 15 -16 game winner on a regular basis…The real question is will he ever be able to do this in the Bronx

  34. AP October 31st, 2008 at 12:15 am

    Ian Kennedy for Jay Bruce

  35. Sevendust October 31st, 2008 at 12:18 am

Kennedy has worn out his welcome here… Cashman not bringing him up to enjoy the final weekend of the stadium clinched that. They brought up guys who haven’t even sniffed the majors like Sanchez, Cervelli, Miranda etc. but omitted Kennedy.

And his comments ticked them off enough that they re-inserted Rasner in the rotation and gave Kennedy only 1 start before sending him down. They let Pavano start games down the stretch in meaningless games instead of him.

  36. mel October 31st, 2008 at 12:23 am

Got to head out, but if you’re up and if there’s a game and if you want to hears it on the internets, here’s the link:

    “Uhh.. Global Warming is fact.”

No, its a theory. In order for it to be a fact it has to be shown to be other than a cyclic change, as opposed to all the other warming and cooling trends that have occurred over the past thousand years.

Its just presented as a fact. That doesn’t make it one.

  38. Dave D October 31st, 2008 at 1:48 am

    Brackman – 3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 5 K so far

    48 pitches-31 strikes

  39. Art Vandelay October 31st, 2008 at 1:57 am

Come on Pete, why the blog on climate change? You’re the one that wants to keep politics out of the blog and now you mention Al Gore and climate change.

If we discuss climate change on this blog, we should debate on whether global warming should be blamed on Hank Steinbrenner’s comments to the press, Joe Girardi’s ban on candy in the clubhouse, the Giambino’s inability to hit the ball to the left side of the field, Tampa-based Yankee executives, A-Rod’s lack of clutch hitting, an over-reliance on pitchers under the age of 25, and not getting Johan Santana last year. If global warming is for real, Suzyn Waldman and all of us have a lot to cry about it.

  40. Art Vandelay October 31st, 2008 at 2:01 am

Actually, global warming is all Hank’s fault. All that cigarette smoke and hot air from comments to the press.

  41. Doreen October 31st, 2008 at 7:02 am

Global warming reference aside, what did Bud Selig say that wasn’t true? The weather at this time of year is indeed tricky. How many of you can remember Halloweens where you’re sweating bullets AND Halloweens where your mom bundled you up and no one could see that cute little costume underneath? And that has been going on forever, even before global warming became such a hot-button issue.

  42. The Reviosionist October 31st, 2008 at 7:42 am

I just read the Selig has backed a neutral site World Series. All the games will be played in Milwaukee.

  43. saucY October 31st, 2008 at 9:18 am

“what did Bud Selig say that wasn’t true?”

agreed. weather IS strange. i don’t even see how anything he said relates to Global Warming.

It’s not like there was a time when the temperature changed a certain fraction of a degree every day leading up to the winter solstice, then went the other direction leading to summer….

  44. Frankie Speaking . . . October 31st, 2008 at 9:44 am

Plainly said, Selig is a spineless pinata. All that counts with him is bottom lines.
