One last shot at the Stadium

Peter Abraham
October

This from the Yankees:

Please note that Yankee Stadium Tours, which had been scheduled to end on Friday, are now scheduled to continue through November 12 with certain restrictions. To inquire about availability and full tour details, fans should call (718) 293-4300 and ask for the Tours Department.

If you haven’t been on the tour, you should go. They do a good job with it.

remember when everyone was outraged when they were thinking about playing hockey as the last game at Yankee Stadium?

I shop at Kawer’s. Do I get a discount for mentioning seeing the ad on this site?

  4. Brandon (TEIX IS NOT WORTH IT, GET CC !)..."Don't trade Robi !"

Halloween party Midnight raffle for free lap dances at Lace ? Every hour on the hour ?

  5. 4 x 4

Knicks fans chanted “We want Steph!”

And D’Antonio still refused to give in.

    Love it.

  6. Brandon (TEIX IS NOT WORTH IT, GET CC !)..."Don't trade Robi !"

MSG always does that, it was because it was a blow out and usually they want everyone to play. Steph doesn’t belong in NY anymore. I’m still completely disappointed how they couldn’t hold a 23 pt. lead w/ less than 5 mins to go vs a scrub team in Miami w/ a H.S. coach.

“I’m still completely disappointed how they couldn’t hold a 23 pt. lead w/ less than 5 mins to go vs a scrub team in Miami w/ a H.S. coach.’

It’s important to remember the Knicks too are a scrub team…only with a professional coach.

  8. Drive 4-5

    Pete,

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be in the city this weekend and got tix for Sunday’s tour.

  9. Joe from Long Island

I’ve gone on the Stadium tour, and I would strongly recommend it to any Yankee – or baseball – fan. They really do a nice job of it. It’s not like you’re going to get another chance.

Bring a good camera. And maybe a plastic bag for dirt.

  10. Doreen

Since they’ve been cleaning out the place (taking down pictures, signs, whatnot), will there be anything left to see? Or will it pretty much be simply having the opportunity to walk through? I know the guy who runs the tours is supposed to be excellent – a good “keeper” of the stories and history.

  11. Alfred

Quick question for the stadium tours-

Do you purchase the tickets over the phone? Or can you pay for the tickets upfront on the date that you wish to attend?

  12. 56Bomber

I went on the tour about 3 weeks ago… they take you to the press box and let you sit there while they give a brief history of the stadium. Lots of Q&A. Then you head down to Monument Park for about 15 minutes and then walk onto the field and follow the warning track to the Yankee dugout. After hanging out in the dugout for about 10 minutes they guided us up into the field level seats and then directed us to the exit. We were not able to get into the Locker Room as several of the players had not yet picked up their belongings. So that might be the restriction that Pete mentioned.

  13. Al from BK( CC watch in 2 weeks. Congrats Phillies.)

The Knicks still haven’t learned how to close out games but now they actually has a coach who gets fired up and knows what hes doing. I loved see Pringles get irate after the Heat got within 10 the players looked like they were responding to him.

I just went this past Sunday (paid way over face value on Ebay for tix since I didn’t think I’d have another chance) and if you’re a Yankee fan you have to go. Just to be able to sit in the dugout and go into the clubhouse is worth it. There are a lot of restrictions like you can’t take pictures in the clubhouse, you can’t walk on the grass, you aren’t supposed to take dirt, stuff like that, but they take you up to the press box first (nice seat Pete!), then to monument park, field, dugout, clubhouse. It goes by way too fast. And just be careful if you do try and take some dirt, there are security guards literally right there to yell at you if they see you taking any. There were a couple people who just whipped out a plastic bag and started filling! Needless to say they were told to dump it out. A little tip, when you are walking up from the bottom of the dugout onto the field, if you “trip” and grab the ground to keep yourself from falling and happen to put some dirt in your pocket (it works), you might be able to get away with it. But go if you haven’t gone!

  15. NYSuperFan

I took the tour this year and the coolest part was definitely the “little things” like wall hangings, press box, stuff on the walls, the dugout, clubhouse, etc. I think the place is being stripped so I really cant see what the point is. Maybe they’ll let you walk on the grass now?

  16. 56Bomber

Alfred – you can get tickets via yankees.com (via ticketmaster) or at the stadium ticket office… BUT do not expect to get a ticket on the day of the tour…they were sold out when I went and several people were disappointed.

  17. saucY

you could also go to the yankees website to order tickets… unless you’re fred flintstone and are into ordering tickets over the phone.

  18. Laura - Ready for '09

I would have loved to have gone, but I won’t be back in NYC until Turkey Day.

  19. Yanksgal07

I’ve been on the tour three times in the past few years ..as recent as this past August…they have many tour guides. I think Doreen is speaking about Tony Moranti (sp?). He is the head of the tour department. I don’t know if he does the tours personally or just special tours. I have never seen him on the occasions that I took the tours. Don’t know what’s left of the photos and artifacts but you still get to see the Stadium, sit in the dugout, check out the clubhouse, walk the field, Monument Park and visit the press box among other things. It really is something you won’t forget..try to get there if you haven’t.

    Go Yankees 2009 !!!

  20. Drive 4-5

    Alfred,

The easiest way to get Stadium Tour tix is by going to Ticketmaster’s website. It took me less than 5 minutes. They do sell out fast though.

I’m psyched. I thought Sept 21 was going to be the last time we set foot in the Stadium. WE got down on the field that day too. It’s like going to see an old friend again.

  21. Yanksgal07

Oh..and of course ..like all the other Stadium Tours I have taken …the exit is through the Yankee Team Store ..:o)…

    Go Yankees 2009 !!!

  22. Drive 4-5

Does anyone know which Gate you go to when you take the tour?

  23. 56Bomber

    Drive 4-5 – press entrance

  24. trisha - I predicted the Rays over the Sux; I predicted the Phils over the Rays; stick with me. Yankees will win it all next season! :)

Am definitely going to go. Getting on the horn right now.

  25. Alfred

    One last thing-

another reader made me wonder, is it pointless to go now? Have they tore down the place where their is nothing hanging or just plain dull looking inside of the clubhouse? Or does anyone believe it is still worth it to go?

I mean i don’t want to travel X amount of miles and be disappointed that it wasn’t the “fulfilling experience” that people have said it was.

  26. Yanksgal07

    Alfred …

    As I wrote above…

Don’t know what’s left of the photos and artifacts but you still get to see the Stadium, sit in the dugout, check out the clubhouse, walk the field, Monument Park and visit the press box among other things. It really is something you won’t forget..try to get there if you haven’t.

November 8th baby. Be there or be square!

    :D

  28. Rich I.

I just bought three tickets for November 8th. My dad, my brother, and I are going to see the Stadium for the last time.

Are you allowed to take dirt if you bring a plastic bag?

  29. Drive 4-5

    56Bomber,

    Thanks for the info.

  30. trisha - I predicted the Rays over the Sux; I predicted the Phils over the Rays; stick with me. Yankees will win it all next season! :)

Rich, which sitting did you get?

I would take the bag just in case. I can’t imagine why they would object at this point. (You probably need a jackknife to in order to soften the ground!)

  31. trisha - I predicted the Rays over the Sux; I predicted the Phils over the Rays; stick with me. Yankees will win it all next season! :)

Alfred, just to be in the same dugout that our Yankees have graced is worth the whole trip to me.

  32. Rich I.

Row GA1. I’ve never been on a Stadium tour, what do these numbers mean?

  33. pat

Ask about parking if you call. Last year in the off season, they let us park in the players lot at no charge.

  34. trisha - I predicted the Rays over the Sux; I predicted the Phils over the Rays; stick with me. Yankees will win it all next season! :)

Rich, something is making me think they don’t mean anything? I’ve never been on a Stadium tour either. Mine say Row GAO, seats 18-20. Maybe they do mean something.

  35. trisha - I predicted the Rays over the Sux; I predicted the Phils over the Rays; stick with me. Yankees will win it all next season! :)

I will end up training it down anyway, so I will be at the mercy of the subways!

    :)

  36. Rich I.

I’m not sure how we’ll get there yet. I’m in central Jersey, so we could either drive or take the train into Penn Station and then the subway.

  37. Yanksgal07

You travel with a group …I don’t think Row GA1 means anything. When there isn’t a game you can basically park anywhere around the Stadium …

    Have fun !!!

  38. trisha - I predicted the Rays over the Sux; I predicted the Phils over the Rays; stick with me. Yankees will win it all next season! :)

I am psyched, pictures on the walls or not. To go in the clubhouse they have used and look at the lockers, to go on the field, to go into the dugout. Just wow.

  39. KoKo

You should definitely do the tour if you have not done so. (I have been on the tour so many times last 7 years or so since a part of my job is to translate the tour in foreign language)

From what I have seen this week, only differences are there is no name tags in clubhouse (a few players have some belongings), all the pictures and some of signs are off the walls near clubhouse area. But they could start taking off more things soon..
Some other restriction could be applied too. (you never know till the day of the tour but for example because of some NYC parks department event, there was no access to outfield warning track today)

GA1 or 0 or 2 on tickets mean absolutely nothing. by the way.

    >Rich I.
You are NOT allowed to take any dirt/grass or anything from the stadium.
also No photos in clubhouse , no video taking anywhere inside. otherwise have a fun!

  40. KoKo

One more thing, tickets do sell out on quickly website as somebody else stated here but they keep releasing more tickets online so check back often. also they have plenty of the day of tickets available nowadays. (as far as I know, they have not sold out for the day this month. Tours usually start at 10am and evey hour after that, sometimes till 4pm on weekends)

They are not happy about the fact people are scalping the tour tix so they are taking extra steps to prevent that.

  41. Mr. Utley

This event will be your last opportunity to collect radioactive Trisha secretions. Don’t miss it.

    Hey Shel!

  43. PatMcD

I took the tour today, for my mother’s birthday. It is pretty great, but a word to the wise: its gonna be packed. My tour had 60 people on it, and they are running 2 at a time right now. The tour guide, a heavyset man in a funky yankees suede jacket, kept barking like a schoolmarm that we were taking too long, and threatened to keep us from the clubhouse. The clubhouse portion, BTW, stinks. No cameras, and you can only walk about 10 feet into a little roped off area. You can barely see Thurman’s locker from this vantage point, which was what I really wanted to see. A lot of the pictures have been taken down, and the place does feel like a bit of a tomb. You still cannot walk on the field, and they might take you out back and shoot you if they catch you touching the dirt. Their reasoning is that they want Yankee Stadium to look her best every time someone visits, which I respect. No one wants to remember grandma on her deathbed. All that said, I recommend it, if only to lean against the railing of the dugout and look out onto the field.
