Of course, part of being a good baseball fan is exhibiting patience with prospects. The same can be said with General Managers. It was Brian Cashman that showed zero patience and rushed both Hughes and Kennedy last year.

Ian Kennedy is not garbage, but he's likely not a top of the rotation starter either.IMO, if the Yanks were to lose out on Texiera, they should at least entertain offers for Kennedy in an effort to acquire a first baseman.

Mike:

They don't pitch every 5th day in Zona. More like every 7th or 8th day. Also worth noting that Phil was chosen to start the AFL answer to MLB's allstar game, which was about a week ago and does not reflect in his numbers.

BBB,

I hear you, but to say that Salty's been a disappointment is an understatement. I wouldn't trade for him.

“2. The manager says after every loss that everything is great and it’s no big deal. The kid was saying what he thought they wanted him to say”

I am guilty of wanting to trade Kennedy, but this is indeed an excellent point that I haven't heard anyone else make before.

I don't think he's a bad kid or wish him ill will or anything, just starting to question his ability to thrive under pressure, as much because of his nibbling as his postgame comments. As Pete pointed out though, he was rushed up prematurely so maybe he does deserve more of the benefit of the doubt.

"4. This notion that he can’t pitch is ridiculous as well. He was rushed to the majors in 2007 and then awarded a job for no good reason in 2008. Of course he had growing pains. He pitched very well for Scranton down the stretch in the IL pennant race and deserves a chance to mature."

Pete, don't you think that Kennedy being lumped in with Joba and Hughes, two far more talented guys, set expectations a bit high??? I know the Yankees/Cashman didn't perpetuate this, but the whole Generation Trey thing was ludicrous and probably led to people thinking Kennedy is more than the good #4/fair #3 type pitcher he projects to be. I think that may have disappointed people as much as anything.

Pete,

any news on Phil? Is there a reason he hasn't been starting in the AFL? Is he hurt again?

Mel, yeah we are pretty deep at catcher but mostly in the lower levels of the minors. Cervelli is the only one who is near ready and I'm not sure what level of MLB talent he projects at. I've heard lots of good things about him, but I've never heard anyone say he is a future starter in the bigs. Can anyone shed more light on his potential ceiling?

anyway, even if we were absolutely stacked at C a few years down the line, that's a nice problem to have and puts us in a great trade position like Texas is now.
