Because as Drive 4-5 pointed out (in relation to getting Blalock) a few posts up, replacing Giambi and Abreu with Blake and Blalock would have nightmarish consequences on the team’s OBP. I’m definitely not ready to trade our RISP problems for OBP problems. Especially just having watched the Phillies bring home a championship created almost solely by OBP and barely at all by BA with RISP.

Blalock is a year and a half younger than Crede and has at least played some at 1B while Crede has not. Blake is a better bet health wise and has more experience at 1B, but he’s more than seven years older than Blake.

I’d study medical reports closely, but Blalock is an acceptable alternative to Teixiera if they strike out with Tex.

But why not BOTH Blake and Blalock. Blake could play 1B about a third of the time (mostly vs LHP), add in some DH and some LF and you have a lot of playing time.

If were going to go after a risky injury prone player with high upside. I would prefer Crede at first.

Fredo: I couldn’t find the link, only remembered reading it but Ed said a few posts back that he found it, so he may still have it.

Rconn: “When healthy” are indeed the key words. Right now what assurances do we have that he would be better than Casey Blake who only costs money and is certain to at least play great D?
Blalock may be a decent pickup for the Yanks, MAY, but I definitely dont see how he’s a steal.

Blalock is a 2 time All Star.Butt his .337 obp would not fit well in the Yanks lineup. That’s especialy true if Xavier Nady takes over for Abreu. It would be tough carrying Blalock, Nady and Cano, all guys that strike out more than twice as often as they walk and have a low obp.

With Blalock, I guess I don’t really see him play often enough to feel strongly either way about him. Looking at his stats doesn’t even help much because they can either be interpreted optimistically (will be very solid if healthy) or negatively (has had a few good seasons but injury prone players don’t usually get better as they get older).
