Not Dempster.

I understand the Red Sox have a lot of money themselves, but the Yankees have much more. Missing the playoffs this past season while Boston nearly won another World Series... do you think the Yankees will let the Red Sox get Teixeira? Allow Boston to outbid them? I think not.

I don't mean to come off as an arrogant Yankee fan, but it is what it is. The Yankees won't allow the Red Sox to outbid them. It's just a fact.

C.C. and Teixeira are musts... Burnett (the only other big-name FA worth pursuing) would be gravy.

the red sox have a lot of money to spend and are set up very well going forward.

if they got tex and a good pitcher we are in trouble.

the yankees have to get sabathia, tex, dempster.those 3 will cost us no prospects because of a trade.

let's send a strong message to the sox.

I love how Gammons is questioning whether the Yankees could afford Teixeira if they signed C.C. and Burnett.

With 75 million coming off the cap and those two taking 35 on the new payroll, you don't think they could afford Teixeira?

Teixeira will either be an Angel or Yankee. The Yankees will not allow Boston to outbid them for Teixeira, and if they outbid Boston, chances are they will have outbid the Angels.

All I'm saying is that the Yankees know how strong the Red Sox are. You think they'll allow them to get better? I think not

Yeah, I've been thinking about that as well. The Steinbrenners own this team, they will always try and put the best product on the field.

As for Burnett... I can see both sides of the issue. One side is that he's injury-prone and, by signing him to a contract of 4/5 years, if guys like Brackman, Betances, Horne, Garcia panned out, they'd be blocked by an unmovable player. At the same time, Burnett, when healthy, can be a dominating pitcher who any team would love in their rotation.

If it came down to Moose vs. Burnett, I'd probably take Moose. 2 years of Moose and then a prospect can take over if their ready to enter the rotation.

But C.C. and Teixeira are musts this off-season. I'm fairly sure the Yankees will get them

I think there is also extra motivation to get CC and Teix because they missed the playoffs last year and finished in third place. They have to make sure that doesn't happen again and what better way to do that by signing the two top free agents.

I really don't want Burnett because he is the ultimate tease. He also only stays healthy in his contract years. Go back to his previous two years before this past year. he was injured. I don't think Burnett can be trusted. I think the Yankees would be better off long term with this rotation:
1. Sabathia
2. Wang
3. Mussina
4. Chamberlain
5. Pettitte

Allows Phil Hughes more time to develop and earn his way on the team as a starter. If Mussina doesn't come back then they may have to look outside the organization although they do have options with Coke and Aceves as a no 5 starter.

Scott and AJW

I agree whole-heartedly. Teixeira is too good a player to pass up... he is someone to build around. Gotta sign him. Gotta

I have this simple equation that I use when I have to explain to people why I think C.C. and Teixeira will be Yankees:

Expiring contracts + new stadium revenue + the Steinbrenners already bottomless pockets

If the Yankees seriously want C.C. and Teixeira (honestly, who wouldn't?), who can outbid them? Anyone they want, they can get this off-season. Just a fact

btw, I wouldn't mind Burnett either

C.C/Wang/Joba/Burnett/Pettitte sounds good to me. This team would never go on prolonged losing streaks. When Pettitte is the worst pitcher in your rotation, you're in a pretty good position

Cashman is very frugile in regards to giving prospects and if you notice the Yankees have had a trend of having very good hitting first basemen.
Mattingly, Tino Martinez, Giambi.

The Yankees think big when it comes to that position. I just can't see them going with a player like Blake. I fully expect them to get Mark Teixera because it makes way too much sense.
