Quick update from Dana Point

I need to write my newspaper stories. But before I do …

Brian Cashman said he the Yankees are not yet prepared to announce their decision on Damaso Marte. He indicated there are discussions going on.

The Yankees will not pursue Japanese free agent Junichi Tazawa.

Robinson Cano is not moving positions and is unlikely to be traded. “He is our second baseman in 2009. That’s where I see him,” Cashman said. “I’m open to anything but that is where I see Robbie.”

Angels GM Tony Reagins on Mark Teixeira: “He is our priority. There is a very high level of interest.”

  1. AZ Four

The Raiders traded a 2nd round pick for D’Angelo Hall and gave him a 7 year extension this past off-season.

… And 8 games into the season, they release him.

SI’s Heyman says O Hudson could be a potential target of the Yankees to play centerfield. And apparently Hudson is a great clubhouse guy. I think they once said that about A-Rod.

  3. Al from BK( Fit CC for pinstripes. Jets are tied for first!)

I read a piece on ESPN’s site last night by Crasnick and he polled about 15 various GM’s and executives at the meetings. The question asked was “Where will free agent left hander CC Sabathia end up?” The results were 12 for the Yankees, 1 for the Dodgers, 1 for the LA Angels and 1 undecided. Thats pretty interesting that GM’s would be that agreed in a poll I thought the Dodgers would be close but apparently real baseball people disagree.

I just can’t see the Angels spending dinero on CC, Tex and Rodriguez. The Angels go for one of the three and me thinks Tex will be there guy.

IS anyone concerned that the Red Sox could make a pitch to CC and add to that pitching staff?

  5. vinny-b (Hank Blalock for 1st base)

“IS anyone concerned that the Red Sox could make a pitch to CC and add to that pitching staff”

    no

    paulie:

how is a-rod not a good clubhouse guy? he takes the younger guys under his wing, works out with them, etc. the drama surrounding him doesn’t affect who he is to his teammates.

  7. Al from BK( Fit CC for pinstripes. Jets are tied for first!)

“IS anyone concerned that the Red Sox could make a pitch to CC and add to that pitching staff?”

No. He would never go there and we would destroy their offer. AJ might go there.

  8. Brandon (TEIX IS NOT WORTH IT, GET CC !)..."Don't trade Robi !"

    Sooooooooooo

    CC and AJ or Sheets

O-Dawg in CF that could be very, very interesting :D

    Robi stays !!!

I don’t see Boston having the need to spend big bucks on Burnett or even Teixeira. Their concerns are catcher, SS, and relief staff.

If the Yankees want Burnett, they’ll get him over Baltimore, IMO. Burnett was pretty good in the AL East against Boston and Tampa Bay and killed us.

I was a fan of Dempster until I saw him implode in the playoffs.

No, to Peavy. I understand his mechanics could vey well lead to an arm injury.

Time to start the “Sign Adam Dunn for 1B” campaign (unless they want to move Nady there and put Dunn in corner OF…)

  11. Brandon (TEIX IS NOT WORTH IT, GET CC !)..."Don't trade Robi !"

I’d rather get Garko or Blalock and if Cash is chatting w/ Jocketty hey that Votto looks pretty.

“Time to start the “Sign Adam Dunn for 1B” campaign (unless they want to move Nady there and put Dunn in corner OF.”

Dunn should be a DH and Nady was second to Markakis in outfield assists playing RF before his trade to the Yankees.

Agree with Brandon-Fix the starting pitching, and Cashman will improve the defense and offense at 1st.

  13. Rob NY -- 2009 The Road to Redemption

That Joey Votto is an animal in the making, I like where your head is at Brandon.

  14. Ed - looking forward to 2009

“O-Dawg in CF that could be very, very interesting ”

if he’s going to switch positions, he going to command $$$$. dumb idea!

  15. Ed - looking forward to 2009

    O/T:

I seriously thought Grant Hill retired. :?

  16. ray (sox fan)

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Sox go after Burnett especially if CC ends up with the Yankees.

  17. David

Since all this election stuff is on tonight don’t you feel like Ken Rosenthal should interview the losing Presidential Candidate for Fox?

  18. Fredo Corleone

“No. He would never go there and we would destroy their offer. AJ might go there.”

Only reason he wouldn’t go there is money, which happens to be the only reason he’ll likely end up a Yankee.

  19. Mike

I think Texiera would be a great addition to the Red Sox to replace Manny. He would be great protection for Ortiz.
