I remember how big a deal it was, how teary eyed he was at the press conference and in Yankee Stadium after he was signed. He was supposed to take the team the promise land. I thought the seven year deal would at least bring back a few more championships. But that was never to be. He didn't seem to measure up to what he should have been, steroid controversy aside. The Yankee teams he played on also lacked the gritty core players. It really showed how much the Yankees missed Tino, too (why else would Cashman bring him back, if only for a short while?).
