With $80,000,000 or so coming off the books the Payroll stands at about $130,000,000 or so..

Moves to make:

Trades:

Hideki Matsui to the Mariners for pitching prospect Ryan Rowland-Smith (subtract $13,000,000) $117,000,000
Johnny Damon to the White Sox for a decent position prospect (subtract $13,000,000) $104,000,000
Robinson Cano, Ryan Rowland-Smith and prospect to Colorado Rockies for Matt Holliday (add around $6,000,000) $110,000,000
Melky Cabrera, Wilson Betemit and a pitching prospect to the Brewers for Mike Cameron (add $8,500,000) $118,000,000
Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy and any prospect not named (Austin Jackson) to the Padres for Jake Peavy
(extend contract, new contract $108,000,000 over 6 years $18,000,000 a year) $136,000,000

Signings:

Sign Sabathia 7 years $161,000,000 so $23,000,000 a year (159,000,000)
Sign Teixeira 8 years $160,000,000 That's $20,000,000 a year (179,000,000)
Sign Manny Ramirez 4 Years $100,000,000 so $25,000,000 a year (204,000,000)
Sign Orlando Hudson 4 years $36,000,000 that's $9,000,000 a year (213,000,000)
Resign Andy Pettite for 1 year $12,000,000 or Resign Mike Mussina for 2 years $26,000,000 with option for 3rd year, $13,000,000 a year
(Preference is Mussina, Prediction is Pettite. But let's go with Preference) $226,000,000
Resign Damaso Marte 3 years $15,000,000 so $5,000,000

Payroll: $232,000,000

Far Fetched, of course.. However with the Yankees opening up a new stadium they can undoubtedly afford this. Believe it or not this number is only slightly higher than the payroll last year. So for fun let's go over the Roster of this dream team.

Lineup:

SS Jeter (OBP only slightly lower than Damon's last year)
LF Holliday
1B Teixeira
3B Arod
DH Manny
RF Nady
C Posada
CF Cameron
2B Hudson

Rotation:

Sabathia
Peavy
Wang
Chamberlain
Mussina or (Pettite)

Bullpen:

CP Rivera
SU Marte
SU Veras
MR Ramirez
MR Coke
MR ?
LR Rasner

Bench:

C Molina
OF Gardiner
IF ?
UTIL ?

I agree that our farm system doesn't perform at the big stage, but I don't think anyone can say they're not good. The AAA team and the AA team both won their "World Series"'s, respectively, so clearly our talent is better than other team's talents, but they just don't translate. But AAA is only a phone call away, and I'm confident in Austin Jackson!

It's amazing how little talk there is about Dempster. Since he spent so much of his career in the bullpen his arm doesn't have the mileage on it that the otehrs do and he might like the idea of pitching in a larger park than Wrigley. He'll be 32 in April. which is significantly younger than Lowe (36 in June) and his 14-hundred career innings are 500 less than Lowe, too.

Supposedly there's some talk about Melky and a pitcher for Cameron. Milwaukee needs to balance it's lineup and Cameron at $ 10 M is also a little higher than they want to spend. For a one year deal, it makes sense to me depending on the pitcher involved. My guess is they want Coke and the Yanks may want it to be Chase Wright.

the yankees should sign sabathia, dempster, mussina, tex and let pettitte go and take the picks.

a rotation of
sabathia
wang
dempster
mussina
joba is pretty good.

cc,mussina, dempster, tex will cost around 75 million.when you factor in arbitration raises payroll will be slightly lower,we keep all our prospects and fix all our problems except centerfield wich we can survive with gardner, melky, damon, christian, ajax.

i love how everybody thinks moose will retire, hughes will or won't get traded, hughes will stink in certain ballparks, cano will or won't get traded.

news flash people.

nobody knows if moose will retire, this includes pete.

anybody can be traded,anybody.

i would guess and say arod, jeter,mo,joba, wang are safe.

i do like the fact that cashman will not give up hughes unless the absolute right player comes our way.

i heard hughes looked great the other night.

RSN perspective on what the NYY want to do/need to do with all of the $$$ soon to be available. Their posts indicate Tex must not wind up in pinstripes.

http://www.boston.com/sports/columnists/massarotti/2008/11/the_empire_strikes_back.html

Also, with all of the Citi, GS and other firings on WS (big cutbacks in spending), does anyone sense the FO might be concerned about Yankee revenues? Just asking.

"“We’re going to show a lot of love,” he said. “We’re going to need to have somebody to love us back. If somebody loves is back, we’re going to have a deal.”

Translation: If there is an even an ounce of interest in coming to NY inside Sabathia, he WILL be a Yankee. A deal will be hammered out."

I think Cash is quietly putting the cards down on the table and letting CC know that he will get a huge deal if he comes to NY.
