Yankees set to meet with Boras

Peter Abraham
November
5

Let’s see what’s in the notebook so far today …

The Yankees will have a sit-down with Scott Boras tonight. The chat will center on Mark Teixeira and Derek Lowe. Boras would love to have the Yankees involved with Manny Ramirez, but the club seems to have little appetite for that. … WEEI.com is reporting the Red Sox have interest in LHP Billy Traber. Good luck with all that.

Keep hearing that the Nationals want to make a splash via free agency or trade in an attempt to have the franchise more relevant. They clearly need to do something. … Derek Lowe lives in Fort Myers, Fla., the spring training home of the Red Sox. He would like to return to Boston but the Red Sox may not want to meet his price.

The Dodgers declined their option on Brad Penny. He’s only 30 but was injured much of last season, is out of shape and enjoys the nightlife perhaps a bit too much. … It’s truly astonishing some of the things Boras has said about Jason Varitek. You realize it’s all part of negotiating but to hear the agent, Varitek is General Patton, Johnny Bench and Albert Einstein rolled into one.

The GMs are off playing basketball now. Back with more later.

I’ve gone back and forth on whether I want to see CC in Pinstripes, out of concern that his workload the last three years will result in injury or ineffectiveness in the coming years, but now I think I want the Yankees to sign him. And, I’ve always thought Texiera was a great fit. It’s funny, though, there are a number of teams who could sign those guys, and a number of other factors that could play into the players’ decisions. It would be great to get both, but we shouldn’t count on landing either.

    pettitte wants 2 years…

Hey, saucy – we were on the same page!

  6. S.o.S.27-THAT ONE!!!

    saucy,
Their going to play some early turkey bowl. I say Cash lays out Epstein on a pass up the middle. And finish the night of with some poker. It is considered a sport right? Stealth wins that matchup as well.

No Derek Lowe! The fact that he wants to go back to BOS is enough to disqualify him for consideration. He and Penny were both failures out here with the Dodgers, but at least Penny threw hard.

CC is priority right now. Burnett and Lowe would be 2nd tier guys, but for the Yanks not to attain CC would be a huge disappointment. Why don’t the Yanks ask Florida about Olson? Wouldn’t hurt?? No 2 years to Pettitte!!

BASKETBALL?!?! Tomorrow is the last day of the GM Meetings Bowling yesterday wasn’t enough?? …and who’s responsible for these recreational events? ..Pat Gillick?….I need to know

Just because some dingleberry writes that Pettite “might” be looking for two years means NOTHING. Why so many take every rumor as gospel is beyond me.

I like and admire Pettite, it seems obvious he pitched late last year when he should have skipped a start or to two get some rest for that shoulder. I’d be shocked if anyone guaranteed him two years unless it was for half (or less) the $ 16 M he made last year.

I’m definitely all in for Tex and CC, all out w/ Manny.

Would the Yankees make an offer on Manny just to keep Boras happy (and drive up the price for the Dodgers) in order to sign Texiera?

Doreen, i’m sure you’ll never read this late response, but I love the bocce response… :D

we had a court on the side of the house i grew up in. for some silly reason the new owners took i out :|

IMO, the best game for a summer cookout-type party, by far.
