Good points GB7. I am not a fan of Veras' at all and, provided Bruney is retained, would love to trade him while his stock is somewhat high. I follow the prospects somewhat regularly and didnt even know about a few of the names you mentioned, so it does seem like we have a surplus, making it wise to get rid of some.

If we traded for Hawpe though, where would he play? I was looking at the James fielding bible stats not too long ago and they had him ranked as the worst defensive RF in baseball (w/Abreu close behind him). Nady is good enough defensively at the corners but I don't think he could handle a move to CF, and we know Damon can't. I guess if all 3 OF would net more runs with the bat than they'd cost in the field it would still be worth it, though, but I'd also like to see the Yanks explore trades for guys like Swisher.

“They’re looking to move contracts like Jennings or Atkins.”

who is Jennings?

My error, Ed. I meant Jeff Francis. Jennings was traded from Colorado a couple of years ago.

GB7: I like Hawpe (better than Atkins) and we do need to replace Abreu and Giambi’s offensive production, and it seems there hasnt really been much talk of how we are going to do that. I wouldn’t be opposed to a Hawpe trade at all, he is solid, gets on base and his home/rd. splits are even. But if we are thinking in terms of a big bat, I do feel compelled to point out that Adam Dunn would only cost money, not talent.

NYY has a lt of young pitchers just about ready. They need to trade them or lose them as FA or Rule 5 Marquez, Horne (though, not likely until he's healthy), Aceves, Kennedy, Cox, Robertson, Veras, Ortiz, Zink are all, or, at least should be available. Add Colorado's favorite player (Cash to the deal. NYY also has Kevin Russo or Colin collins close to ready in the outfield (Collins) and infield (Russo).

Greenbaret, thats actually a pretty good idea.

Cashman needs to get very creative in the trade market and use our young pitching to fill some other needs. Teams like the Rockies, Brewers, Rangers etc. are all good trade partners.
