I wonder if the movers noticed that our Stein-kees picked the date of his death to break ground on the replacement for his House. Utter sacrilege.

I thought the idea behind the Marte trade was that the Yankees traded a prospect who was seriously struggling on and off the field for 2 guys that they needed to make a push for the playoffs. Matsui and Damon were hurt and Joba was moving out of the pen. If they didn't make the playoffs, they'd be able to basically get 4 picks in the 1st 2 rounds out of it by letting Marte go and letting Abreu go and replacing him with Nady. That's 4 chances to find a guy as good as Tabata.

If they wanted to keep Marte they should have picked up the option. They could have seen how he would perform in NY for a full season before they decided to commit to a long term deal. It doesn't make any sense to me.

This post is in reference to marte signing - i have been in classes all day. Of course, the marte deal made sense - they gave up tabata who was supposedly untouchable to get him and it wasnt a couple months rental. However, was three yrs really necessary? I guess it was but to me that seems like a long time for a lefty reliever who is past his prime already at the age of 33. Seems like two yrs and 12 million probably would have done the trick with a club option for a third yr. That would be adding 6 mil to the option and adding a new option. I hate signing relievers to long term deals and granted, this is only three yrs but that seems like a lot- marte is not the best reliever in the game and relievers in general are soo volatile. Im happy that marte is back though and it certainly solidifies the pen although i would like cash to get someone that can replace the eighth inning parade of relievers that we have had. If joba is going to start, who is the bridge to Mo? Is it marte? I wouldnt mind signing a guy like fuentes. I was begging for him last yr and he looks even better now. I bet a a multiyr deal with a lot of money involved will get him to be a setup man rather than a closer. And if a reliever can succeed in colorado, I think they can be successful anywhere. I also wanted him last yr.

Patrick,
You took the words right out of my mouth. Better yet. Just have the league hand it to him directly and assume hes a player/manager.

Torre should win MOTY? If he did he should immediately give it to Manny Ramirez because Manny is the only reason the Dodgers made the playoffs.

Set him free! Let the Babe out of the plywood box!

THEN AGAIN, maybe the Bambino's pent up spiritual energy will be released in the new venue next year.

(I don't really like the mythological/symbolic aspect of baseball. Or even the downright superstitious/silly. Honest.)

IMO

Torre should have won the NL manager of the year. That 2nd half surge to overtake Arizona after they had just gotten swept in Philly and Washington and were 6 games under .500 was one of the best managing jobs I've ever seen.

He rallied that team to victory and fight like he did here for 12 years, though what he did in LA trumps his best managing jobs here these past few years.

What did Pinella do? Win a mediocre division with a powerhouse team? That Cubs team had 7 all-stars or something this year, they were expected to win the division. Nobody thought Torre's Dodgers would though.
