I am trying to sell myself on Swisher but I can't. If he gives us Giambi's 2007 numbers it will equal his BEST year. Now I hear the Red Sox will go after Texiera. If that happens, advantage Red Sox. Last year Yanks go with Hughes & Kennedy. Sox go with Lester/Buckholtz. Advantage Red Sox. The year before Yanks sign Igawa, Red Sox Dice-K. Advantage Red Sox. The off-season is just starting but I don't like the way things are going.

Ed - sign CC immediately
November 14th, 2008 at 12:28 am
Does anyone know about the Yanks attempting a little experiment with Justin Christian? I heard on the River Ave Blues podcast that they are planning to turn him into a Chone Figgins (super utilty player, playing the middle infield and the outfield)?

Don't know about that, Ed, but, 2nd base was Christian's position until he moved to the outfield. He wasn't real good, but, that was 2005. It would help his value, though if he could play 2nd and a couple other infield spots. He has the speed, footwork and arm.

The only reasoning I can cme up with, is that we are flipping him to another team, I really don't see how he can help theYankees.

One of the things I look at is strikout to hit ratio. Swisher's ratio of 135 SO's to 109 H's is much worse than any '08 Yankee who got significant AB's other than Sexson, who was cut for his ineptitude. Swisher's ratio was worse than Giambi's and even worse than Betemit's (56 SO's to 50 H's), which was pretty awful.

Round about August Cashman made the comment that it wasn't pitching that was killing us, it was the lack of hitting. I hope he has something in mind.

Ichiro and the Unit would be great on the same team, a team like Arizona. No way Unit would go back to SEattle

Does anyone know about the Yanks attempting a little experiment with Justin Christian? I heard on the River Ave Blues podcast that they are planning to turn him into a Chone Figgins (super utilty player, playing the middle infield and the outfield)?

The more I think about it the more this trade gets really objectionable to me. Why do we need yet another expensive position player who can no longer hit to play 1B? Next year could really be brutal to watch. I say get REAL utility players and a REAL 1B.

Yankees '09--Give us your injured, your steroid burn-outs who can't hit, we'll put 'em at 1B.
