Yanks need to shore up defense. Get Cameron for center, trade cano for a lesser bat but a passion for defense. Add Tex at first. Spend all the wad on Tex, Manny, (DH) CC, Lowe. Those two bats alone would make up for any weak hitting defenders.

Dameon
Jetter
a-rod
Manny
Tex
Cammeron
Posada
Cabrara
2nd Base

Knoblauch was one of the best 2nd baseman in baseball when the Yankees got him. I guess you weren't happy when the Yankees brought in Tino Martinez?

Some people here represent every reason the Yankees don't win anymore. "Get the best players available for the most money". This is a horrible policy. Team Chemistry is important. I doubt in 1998 people were overly excited to see Brosius and Knoblauch. Or in 1996 when Mattingly left and Tino came in. None of these were the best at their position, but were gamers (minus Knobby), and the yankees went on a roll. We already have A-Rod, we don't need Tex. We need pitching, and that will make the hitting better. People wont be swinging for the fences and grounding into DPs or outs so much.

It all starts with the Pitching.

I think the big thing will be Posada's health. How can they know how he'll hold up? An upgrade in center will be needed if he can't go behind the plate, because there's really no way to replace his offense there. I think Nady and Swisher's defense gains back some of what's lost by Abreu and Giambi leaving. They can get a veteran bat to pinch hit for Gardner or Melky in the 7th. Perhaps if Nady or Swisher start out ugly, that player gets more work.

Usually agree with you Green, but not this time, I hope you are not saying Swisher is near Nady as a hitter, no chance. Swisher is only a better hitter than Gardner and I`d take Melky over Swisher right now because Melky has played in the bright lights and Swisher has not

I usually agree with you, except, are you saying Swisher is any where near as good a hitter as Nady? not a chance
On the hitting depth chart Swisher right now is the only a better hitter than Gardner- I will take Melky over Swisher

Fredo---

I partly agree. The Yanks are dealing from weakness until they sign CC or AJ. Then, they are dealing from strength.

Sure Cashman is using tactics and strategy in his approach. You don't want the agents for the big three (CC, AJ, Tex)thinking the Yanks are going all in this off-season. Make them think they may only sign one FA. It doesn't hurt to try and create some sense of urgency.

Will... why complain about a worst case scenario before it plays out? If Cashman screws up the rest of the off-season there will be plenty of time to bitch and moan.

Another thing Cashman has to wait on where Tex is concerned is finding out whether or not Abreu accepts arbitration. I think it's a real possibility and that would close the door on Tex most likely.

I could live with this lineup... IF they sign pitching

Damon 8
Jeter 6
Abreu 9
A-Rod 5
Matsui DH
Nady 7
Cano 4
Posada 2
Swisher 3

Cabrera, Gardner on the bench offering late inning defense.

swisher?
November 14th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Swisher?

Well yes he is more valuable than Betemit, but heres what it does, it prevents the Yankees from getting a real first baseman who can hit. If the Yanks feel Swisher is an everyday player we are in trouble
Bring back Giambi

Little Swish, getting Nick Swisher has no part in getting Teixiera. All Swisher is, is a backup incase NYY can't sign Teixiera for one reason or another. At least with Swisher, NYY doesn't appear to be in desperate need. If the sign Teixiera, Swisher can be moved to right field and NYY could trade Nady for something else that's needed.

The issues between Piniella and O'Neill was mainly because O'Neill thought he could hit right and left handed pitchers and RA because Piniella didn't think he could.

The funniest incident with O'Neill's temper came when felt that he should have caught a fly ball and missed it. He kicked the ball on the fly to the first baseman and kept the runner from advancing. The problem was, that was an illegal use of equipment on a ball in play and the runner was advanced to 2nd base on the error. Actually, O'Neill's temper was the same temper that Mantle showed.

Swisher's RISP isn't too impressive over the last 3 seasons at .223 but his OBP is .376.

His bases loaded #'s are real sweet though.

Personally I think he's going to be a popular player given his grit and attitude. A Damon type.
