Darrell is a great guy and his wife and son are excited about going to Japan for a few years. I am happy, but sad that he won't be with the Yanks anymore. I know his family very well and they think this is a great opportunity for him and hope that he can be a great pitcher in Japan.

Rasner didn't have any options left. If he didn't make the team out of ST, which is possible considering the SP hunt they are on, he would have been DFA'd and had to clear waivers before going to AAA. If you saw the writing on the wall, wouldn't you take the money in Japan over ending up with the Orioles or the Mariners for the league minimum?

I don't think the Yankees end up with Peavy.....whereas CC perhaps prefers to pitch on the West Coast, he has never given an indication that he would never pitch in NY. Peavy? If reports are true, he wants absolutely nothing to do with NY....for example, he wants to stay in the NL and be on a contending team; yet, he put the Braves on the list...and not the Mets. Not the Phillies. Not any team where giving up two runs in the first may cause some jeering.
---
That said, I do think the "NL pitcher" stuff is so overblown - for every pitcher. If a pitcher is switching to a better league, adjust your expectations accordingly. Just like if a pitcher is coming from Japan, or AAA, or wherever.
Switching leagues didn't kill Pedro...he got even better. Schilling? No problem. Beckett? Initial growing pains, which are now worked out.
Peavy throws in the middle 90s with hard breaking stuff - he has the kind of stuff that will work anywhere. As for the "he has only thrown X number of pitches beyond the 7th inning!" stuff...ummm, who cares? How many pitcher nowadays throw into the 8th inning, anyway? If the first six or seven innings are solid, that's fine in the modern game of baseball.

So I would have little doubt, if he stays healthy, that Peavy would pitch well. I just don't think he wants to be here in any way, shape, or form and would only do so if he gets extreme compensation; perhaps to the point where he'd want his current deal thrown out the window for a much more lucrative one. I just don't think the Yankees should go down that path.

peavy has the stuff to be an ace anywhere he pitches...watch the guy pitch...

...the 2 problems with peavy is: when will his arm blow out, and will he ever be clutch?...he has had a problem in the postseason thus far...

...but dont worry about where he pitches, his stuff is just as good, if not better than CC's.
