Here’s the best news of the day: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have a new record coming out on Jan. 27 called Working On A Dream. So that’s what I’ll be listening to in Tampa.
The first song is called Outlaw Pete, which could be my favorite Bruce ever even though I haven’t heard it yet.

Did you catch the new song they debuted during halftime of the Dallas/Washington game lastnight? It was called working on a dream.
Pujols won the MVP. So the debate was all for naught. They got it right.
Guesses on who breaks the CC to Yankees news first?
1)CC
2)LeBron

Working On A Dream would be a good theme song for this blog during the winter.
And Hal Holbrook could be our mascot.
yawn.
mel, i’ll pick #9
saucY,
Hey, look! Francessa must not be cool. He didn’t get the cool sunglasses emoticon. And I wasn’t even trying. haha.
“That seemed high to me, so I took a look at your link. My quick read on the RLYW’s CAIRO projections is that they are too optimistic on the AB projections, which overweights production from our starting 9.”
Wave,
Yes. Lot’s of new threads. On Cairo – there is an age related adjustment in the projections just as Pecota does.
Regarding the projected plate appearances. I can see what you’re saying. But on the flip side those projections have the bench players themselves set exactly at replacement level. The bench may not be great but it’ll be better than replacement level.
So you’re right chances are someone will get hurt. But how projection models handle at bats/ injuries varies widely. As a ball park it’s helpful because it shows that the loss of Abreu and Giambi/ lack of 3 hole hitter isn’t necessarily as damaging as one might suppose.
As a general issue – one major difference between pecota and CAIRO. CAIRO sets replacement level considerably higher than pecota does. In general, I like this. PECOTA really sets replacement level too low, IMO.
well since pete wont be bloggin i’ll post some interesting news that most of us should be happy about.
Per http://www.mlbtraderumors.com:
SUNDAY: Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports on a trade that seems too obvious to actually happen: the Tigers are “contemplating a deal with Boston to send either Nate Robertson or Dontrelle Willis for Julio Lugo, but some money issues must be resolved.
I, for one, would love to see the yanks hit against dontrelle 5 times a season.
#4. A return appearance by Miller or Bobcat sounds fitting.
I’ll go with #7, but you know #6 will try to take credit for it.
I pick #9 lol
I’m with you, Pat. I miss Bobcat.
Congrats to Pujols. Just an amazing season. What a player. .462 OBP with a .653 Slg %. He walked 104 times and only struck out 54 times. Unbelievable.
And congrats to the BBWA for picking him!
If the song they played last night is any indication, the album will be dull enough that Pete will break down and blog.
This is my prediction.
I vote #9!
mel –
Again, I think the story is going to be different than what we’re hoping for, but I’ll take #7.
(I think Francessa didn’t get his sunglasses because there’s no space after the close paren, but he’s not cool, so he doesn’t deserve ‘em anyway.)
mel, if there’s one thing the blog comment software should know by now, it’s that francessa is not cool
I wonder if Albert will say that he doesn’t deserve the award because he didn’t take his team to the playoffs. When he lost the award a few years ago to Howard you may recall he said that he didn’t think anyone whose team didn’t make the playoffs should get the award.
I am not holding my breath waiting for him to change his opinion.
I don’t listen to WFAN, is Francessa complaining about the Steelers not getting credit for that final TD on the last play of the game that would have covered the point spread had it been allowed?
My god I’ll drive to the studio myself and whoop his … anything to get him to shut up about this play !!!
Dear John Heyman,
Please call in to WFAN. Even if it’s just to say hi or repeat a story from last week. Anything to get Francesa off of talking about the Steelers/Chargers game for another hour and a half.
Love,
All of us
Latest Moose update is there is no update. He still hasn’t decided but says he will give his answer this week.

I was researching Gayle’s comment about Pujols’ statement after losing to Howard in 2006, and found the above story that the Red Sox were going to suspend Manny Ramirez before the trade. Official letter and all!
from previous thread:
Prediction: CC will not be an Angel.
The Angels need Tex more than they need CC. I don’t think they would get too involved with CC while Tex is still out there.
Boras won’t let Tex sign if there is an external factor which could drive up Tex’s value even more. Tex’s value, both to the Angels and perhaps in general, goes up once CC is off the table. Therefore, Boras will let CC sign before he lets Tex sign.
I might be using some circular logic, but I think what I say will come to pass.
Giants sign LHP Jeremy Affeldt 2 yr. deal Nick since your in SF any word on how much ?
Nick
It’s rumored that Boras wants Manny’s deal done and then he plans to use it to set Tex’s value. If Tex leaves it up to Boras, he won’t be signed for awhile.
Gayle…its true Pujols sounded petty and dumb when he complained. But despite his complaints, Howard still won the MVP that year, even though the Phillies didn’t make the playoffs.
So whether Pujols complained or not its irrelevant to this argument.
It’s sad I have to feel relieved that the voters made such a blindingly obvious choice in Pujols.
I see there were two first-place votes for Lidge. At first I figured those votes came from Philadelphia homers, but then I realized that all homer votes would have gone to Howard. In fact, if a Philly writer wanted a Phillie to win, it would have been stupid to dilute the Howard vote by voting for Lidge. What’s the story with those two votes?
Come to think of it, Lidge might have been a better MVP choice than Howard.
Pujols gets 200,000$ for the MVP. That guy is so good, it hurts. I wish he was in the AL just to see him play more. Then again….
R Howard struck out 200 times and hit .250.
When do they vote for MVP?
Let’s hope that someone who isn’t hearing impaired mixes and masters it.
“Magic” had great songs and performances but sonically, it’s atrocious.
Since the Dog left, I no longer watch Francesa. His condescending and insulting attitude to callers whom he doesn’t agree with coupled with his overall pomposity becomes grating. Also, I find it amusing how obsequious he is with the coaches, managers and players, rarely challenging them as a good journalist should do; in short, an obvious Celebrity Parasite. Other than that, he’s ok!!!
the chronicle says:
2:39pm: MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon says it’s a two-year, $8MM deal for Affeldt. Nice signing! Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says the Giants are not done looking for relievers.
I’m picturing Pete playing some mean tennis racquet guitar in front of a mirror when “Outlaw Pete” gets released. Rock on, brotha.
