Our roster as of today is:

C Posada
1B: Swisher
2b: Cano
SS: JEter
3B: Arod
OF: Damon
OF: Gardner/Cabrera
OF: Nady
DH: Matsui

C: Molina
UT: Ransom

P: Wang
P: Joba
P:
P:Hughes/Kennedy/?????
P: Aceves

CL: Mo
RP: Bruney
RP: Coke
RP: Marte
RP: Veras
RP: Robertson
RP: Ramirez
RP: Geise

We need two-three starters- preferably CC, option of Burnett or Lowe, and either Pettite or another trade/free agent signing.

On offense, I think we need another bat and a true utility infielder to go along with Ransom. I think I would keep Gardner over Melky and trade Melky.

Dunn is not a good fit. He is a DH and we have that slot filled already with Matsui and occassionally we will need to slot Damon and Posada in the DH slot. Tex would be the best fit then you can put Swisher in the OF and use Gardner more as the back up outfielder. If we do not get Tex then I would focus on getting a back up firstbaseman (unless we see Miranda in that role and I am not sold yet on him) and we should get another outfielder who can hit and hit with power.

Do not be surprised if Cashman lands some smaller role players who can come up big for us. A Mark Kotsay could fill both back up 1B and OF role. He did well for Red Sox and could be a good fit for the Yanks. I can say the same for an Alex Cora in the utility infielder role.

Our pen is our strength. We also have Abeldajado coming back from injury and we have several young arms that can be slotted into the bullpen mix. If we have a need in our pen it is to figure out who is the everyday set up guy. As of today, it is Bruney who has emerged as a very reliable short reliever. I might want to have another arm that could be slotted into that role and perhaps someone who can close if Mo was injured (God forbid) or needed a break. Melancon is an interesting guy who can make a move this year in our pen. Of all our pen guys referenced above, Ramirez and perhaps Veras are the most expendable. Veras has great stuff but lacks command. Ramirez is better suited to use in a mix and match situation to get one or two batters. He is less effective if slotted to give us 1-2 innings of relief. His stuff loses its effectiveness once hitters see that change up over and over again.

Geise imprssed me last year with his command and his moxy. He is well suited for a long relief role and showed that he can handle some spot starts. If we get CC, Burnett/Lowe and another pitcher then Aceves may move into the long relief slot, in which case Geise goes back to AAA or is traded.

I suspect that GM winter meetings will begin the flurry of free agent signings and some trades. I would not discount Cashman swinging a surprise trade or two.

I do not discount us trading for a starter and trading for another position player.

CC Sabathia has one competitive offer right now. One single competitive offer in all of baseball. He can't make a decision until Moreno or some other unexpected team makes an offer that might change the Yankees final offer. CC wants to make sure he gets paid according to his worth. The market will decide if the Yankees must up their bid. I don't think it'll be necessary because other teams have too many holes to fill and not enough money to fill them. But in the event that CC receives an offer close to the Yankees offer, the front office will respond with an offer that can't be refused.

So let's stop all these scenarios that don't involve CC in our rotation. Think about it. If the Yankees had even the slightest indication that CC Sabathia was really adamantly opposed to coming to NY, they would've moved on by now with their plans. CC's agent knows better than to string along a team that has the Yankees spending power. If CC didn't want any part of NY, CC and his agent would at least have dropped a clue to the Yanks in privacy. They wouldn't single-handedly feign interest while stymying our entire offseason plan because agents must show courtesy to the teams that pay the bills. Their clients don't have to sign but they do have to make their intentions clear enough so that the Yanks know what to do moving forward. If there was any doubt whatsoever about CC, the Yanks would've signed Burnett + Sheets + Pettitte +Teixeira and traded for Peavy by now.

"But this we do know. Our farm is stacked with high talent pitchers".

--------------------------------------------------------

Hughes??
Kennedy???
CHase Wrong?
Horne?
Marquez?
Igawa???

Melancon is the only pitcher in the higher levels of their farm that really impresses me. We have no idea if Betances, Bleich & Brackman will work out.

STACKED? I'd say "Hyped" is more accurate at this point...

Bru - Correct, nobody knows how trades with turn out. But this we do know. Our farm is stacked with high talent pitchers. Ou farm is also all but barren of high talent position players. Cano is potentially our 2nd or 3rd best hitter as well as being an above average fielder, and is signed at a reasonable salary. Trading him for pitching is nuts unless somehow we get a proven young stud.

Furthermore, you want a young pitcher developed by another organization, but you won't give the Yankees time to let Phil develop. Hughes still has more upside then many of the pitchers you might consider. On top of that, his value is very low now, as is Cano's, so you are advocating trading 2 our our young, talented players at their lowest point.

And just WHO are these 2 pitchers you want to trade for?

Sorry dude, you are just throwing sh*t against the wall, coming up with terrible proposals just to try and do something. Doing nothing is better then doing something stupid.

ok.

i do not know all the details,i did at one time.

i do know that if hughes was left on the table we could of had santanna for hughes, melky & one or two others i believe.

i am not pretending i have any or all the answers.i have ideas, some good some bad, some that might sound bad now & better later & the other way around.

i am for anything that makes the team better and it is refreshing to see them for a change make a move to get a good player without a colossal contract.

it is done one move at a time, small steps instead of the position they are in now.i am not in love with cano's obp.that is why i do not have a problem moving him.

he might turn into a superstar & it sounds like he is taking this serious now.

they are in a very bad position now & should not be with their resources.

to make it simple it just makes me mad as he** that the red sox are ahead of them on all levels.

GB7, Happy Thanksgiving to you my man…...One thing coming out int the OC press is that the Angels are taking offers for one of their catchers ( Boston is the main team )...Napoli is the name being tossed around the most…As for CC., the respected opinion is that Moreno is leaking this out to get a message to Boras ( Texeria )...With Lackey a FA next season and the need for more hitting, the whole Sabathia issue is taken lightly….Peavy is a strong possibility, but I don’t see Atrie Moreno committing to 130 million, especially with Lackey’s turn to the bank window upcoming…..As for the absurd trade proposals, I blame it on idle down time until the meetings in Veags…..Some are insightful, some are just bewildering….No names mentioned…..

-----------------------------------------------------------

I saw where LA had either catcher up for a move. It's hard to pick between the two. Both always impressed me on defense, and now Mathis has added the power. I think that Mathis would be the guy to go, if only because his defense isn't quite as good. Hard to tell if he's going to add to his BA...under .200 isn't great. Someone had a long list f catchers that may be moved and it included Shoppach and or Victor Martinez. I'd hate to see what Martinez would do in Boston. Shoppach needs to repeat his 2008 before I believe that he's for real.

Like you, I figure the "we want Sabathia" talk was jst to get Teixeira to commit to LAA, but, that may backfire. LAA has pitching after they traded Kotchman and cut Anderson loose, the last thng they can afford to do is lose Teixeira, too.
