A-Rod in Mexico with rich guy, Madonna

Peter Abraham
November
30

According to a story by the Associated Press, Alex Rodriguez was in Mexico today with Madonna. He also conducted a clinic for kids at a sports center built by the second most wealthy man in the world, Carlos Slim Helú. That’s him with A-Rod in the photo.

It’ll be interesting to see how much of a distraction – if any- this is come spring training. If nothing else, it’s good of Alex to visit with local kids and promote the game while he’s there. The Madonna tour continues next month in South America.

That fool needs to get his head on straight no later than February 15, 2009.

  2. Al from BK

A-Rod most talented player on the field. Biggest bozo off of it. It is nice that hes helping the kids however.

  3. jay destro

wow you guys call a guy who is spending time with kids a fool and a bozo? wah wah wah. cry babies as usual.

“wow you guys call a guy who is spending time with kids a fool and a bozo? wah wah wah. cry babies as usual.”

I was actually referencing his public affair with a washed up diva 16 years older than him. Obviously he isn’t a bad guy just brings negative attention on himself.

Rumors have ARod canoodling at Nobu with Dancing with the Stars contestant, Cloris Leachman.

Apparently ARod thinks Madonna is too young for him, and he finds himself more physically compatible with Leachman.

    aROD IS AWESOME

  7. mel

Alex is looking rather slim. The pilates must be helping.

Alex needs to take a page out of Jeter’s book. November to March romances only. When the season starts, the only focus is baseball.

  8. Al from BK

“Apparently ARod thinks Madonna is too young for him, and he finds himself more physically compatible with Leachman.”

Oh Lord. I heard Kim Catrall gave him a call and he called her a cougar very odd.

He left his wife for Madonna…SMH

  10. mel

Madonna is a lot of things, but washed up isn’t one of them. Did anyone see Payne almost moonwalk his way into the endzone on that pick off Frerotte?

Kim Cattrall is only 52, she’s way too young for ARod.

I sure am glad that my life is fullfilling enough to not give a damn about the private relationships of athletes. It’s nice to see a member or the Yankees spending time with children who might treasure the moment forever.

  15. Al from BK

I’d say this is about the time that CC has run out of leftovers I think Cash should ask Genske if CC wants to be a Yankee already ;)

  16. Phil Parcells

Actually someone on WFAN said ARod will be spending New Year’s Eve partying with Madeleine Albright.

Granted shes a beautiful woman, unfortunately for her A-rod checks AARP cards before he takes a woman on a date.

“It’ll be interesting to see how much of a distraction – if any- this is come spring training.”

    A-Rod and Madonna – a distraction?

How about we get all the Yankee wives and GFs a copy of “Truth or Dare” for Christmas? Then ask me again if these two love birds will be a distraction.

(C-Rod’s vulgar t-shirt seems pretty tame by comparison, no?)

Not for nothing, but consider the impression this all makes on players like CC: any team whose “best” player behaves like such a complete publicity whore can’t be serious about winning. Is it so certain, therefore, that a player like CC, who takes immense pride in his game, will take $140 million and join a circus?

  19. mel

    Buddy,

Really? Must be another ‘mel’. Are people really writing about the regulars here? I smell a sitcom. Instead of the Tony Kornheiser Show, it’ll be “The PeteAbe Show”. I remember a long time ago, someone posted a list of the regulars and their “lookalike”. They put Mel from “Alice” and I had to try really hard to convince them that I didn’t wear a gravy stained apron. Good times.

O/T, but y’all notice a noticeable dropoff in troll activity? Did the red sox trolls invade the Rays’ board(s)?

I’m pretty sure CC doesn’t give a damn what A-Rod does off the field as long as he gets him run support in his 30+ starts. Likewise would he want to go to the Dodgers whose best offensive player might be Manny Ramirez? I don’t think any of this matters to CC he wants money and security for his family.

The sox trolls are likely hibernating until we get CC or Tex at which point they will come in here and complain about us “buying championships”.

I bet Madonna is dating the lightning rod to live out her baseball fantasies. I think that starring in “A league of their own” left her with unfinished business in baseball. Somewhere Tom Hanks is uttering that classic line “There’s no crying in baseball!”

This clinic with Rodriguez could and should pay future benefits for the Yanks in bringing in more free agent talents from Mexico, Central and South america, even more than before, not to mention additional income. It would have been the perfect situation to pair Rodriguez with Aceves. Who knows, if there are any failures or injuries to the rotation, Aceves may become a big key. He was definately not awed by major league hitters.

I agree. Aceves certainly didn’t look intimidated and he never backed down out on the mound I like him as our long-guy/spot starter he is very mature for a 25 year old.

  32. DefJux

Does anyone know when the free period is for PINSTRIPESPLUS?

  33. Mike A.

Wow, what a selfish jerk. Taking time out of his offseason to bring joy and happiness to the lives of children in Mexico. This is so insensitive of A-Rod, I’m certain this will be a major contributing factor to his subpar 38 HR, 120 RBI season in 2009.

Good evening Mel. We are just waiting to pounce! Just kidding.

I have noticed that even many of the regular Yankee fan contributors have not been on here lately. I think when the hot stove heats up there will be a spike in blog activity.

I’m guessing that CC ends up with the Yankees, that Boston signs Tex, but I will be surprised if Lowe ends up with Boston. Not sure where Burnett, Manny, and Sheets end up.

The sad part is some people would think those numbers are subpar. 2007 was the best and worst thing Alex ever did.

Is it just or me, or does Alex look like he’s slimmed down a bit He looks like he’s in even better shape at the moment.

  39. Josh

This may just be my hopeless romantic side talking, but maybe this weird Madonna thing will help Alex relax. If his personal life is what he wants it to be, maybe that will translate to a better Alex on the field. We can always hope anyway.

  40. GreenBeret7

Just how much better does Rodriguez need to be to satisfy people? If other players had performed as close to their averages as Rodriguez did in 2008, the Yanks would have been in the playoffs.

Tex in Boston? Really? The Sox always get their man (ahem, JD Drew).

    Why no Lowe in Boston?

CC might end up on the West Coast. He’s not exactly “pouncing” on our offer. Of course, CC would have to actually get a WC offer in order for him to accept it.

  44. Tom

But, it’s Alex’s fault GB. All he had to do was make up for the loss of Matsui and Posada and the down years of Jeter and Cano. He get’s paid 30 million a year. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask the man to hit 85 home runs and drive in 210 runs.

  45. YankeesLuv

It’s a good thing he’s helping out the kids but the whole Madonna thing is weird. It’s not the age thing really but come on she isn’t even attractive. If it was Demi Moore, then okay I get it but come on Madonna? He’s a ten and she’s a three at best. I never believed this story at first because I thought why would he want that? I know it’s not my business and it’s not but it’s just weird. You know I will still support Alex of course individually but she can get lost. It will be fun to boo her at the new stadium though. ;)

  46. Shirley

I know it’s not my business, but just can’t help wondering why A-Rod wants to be with a woman who is 16 years older than him, even though that woman is Madonna.

  47. ray (sox fan)

    Mel,

You asked why no Lowe in Boston.

Obviously just my opinion but we all know that a certain Scott Boras is Lowe’s agent.

I heard a week ago that Boras was saying Lowe should get a “Zito” type contract!!

Lowe is still a decent pitcher but I don’t see the Sox giving him a four or five year contract at the price per year they are at least asking for at this point.

They would consider a two year deal, but I don’t think Mr. Boras would be supportive of that.

Speaking of time-warp, I got caught in one this weekend. I caught “The King and I” with Yul Brenner. Never saw it. Horrible ending.

Also got caught watching a Virginia Madsen movie. Candyman? It was so freaking scary and I couldn’t stop watching it. I told my daughter about it and said it was really old. Had to be because there were no cell phones or computers in the movie.

  60. PittsburghYankeeFan

All I can say is wow..just wow.

ARod and Madonna are kindred spirits…people from very modest means who took whatever talent they had and are pushing it as far as they can go. Both are under extreme media pressure–so maybe she can help him out with that.

Ruth was the Sultan of Swat..for us in the 21 century we now have the King of Kabbalah. Perfect for the times we live in.

ARod has always had business ambitions beyond baseball. Getting to know Carlos Slim and Warren Buffett, and helping out some poor Mexican kids in the process, doesn’t hurt anyone and if anything is a winner for all.

If Madonna helps ARod hit in the clutch and making him even the leader and player we all know that he is, we should replace “Cotton Eyed Joe” with “Material Girl” at YS next year. That will even make Pete happy.

nice article on riveraveblues.com about why it is obvious that the yanks should just offer pettitte arbitration. I am in complete agreement – no reason to be cheap and risk losing one of our starters to the dodgers who have excellent picks by the way with the amount of money the yanks have to spend. If the yanks end up paying him the same as they did last year through this process they only prolly pay him 4 million more than they would if they didnt offer arbitration and he re-signed.

Pettitte did horrible the end of the season but overall he pitched relatively the same as he did last season posting a whip which was actually slightly lower than in 2007 and more strikeouts in 2007. Ending with the numbers he did, was as much a testament to how well he pitched at the start of the season when we were still in the race. And when he fell apart,

it didnt really matter anyway as we werent going to get in no matter how well he did most likely due to lack of run support. We all know he will give us 200 innings next year while posting an era around 4 and giving us a chance to win most times out. He is old but not completely over the hill just yet. And frankly, there is no one out there that could without a doubt replicate his numbers at a cheaper salary.

We really need starting pitching right now and without having a clue as to what CC will decide, we cannot risk losing another starter that gave us 200 innings last season. And if he does sign elsewhere, we get two great draft picks out of the deal. It is really a win, win. Either andy re-signs for slightly over what he deserves or we get two draft picks. We are going to end up paying other pitchers far more than they deserve and we gave posada a contract which only reflected what he did for us in the past at 37 years old – we might as well overpay a mere 4 million tops to fill the gaping hole that is the yanks starting rotation.

Correct, Mel David was “Grasshopper” and his brother Keith was “Weedhopper”. Daddy John was just plain scary.

If you enjoy bios and love Woodie Guthrie’s music, it’s a great movie. His son Arlo, Bob Dylan and Art Garfunkel were all considered for this movie. That’s what made Carradine the surprise choice.

You know the hot stove has grown cold when every other news article about the hot stove involves a minor league pitcher from japan that no one believes will be any good (Tazawa.) Just because Dice K did well last year doesnt mean every japanese pitcher should make far more than they are worth. And his peripherals last year were almost identical to those put up in 2007 when he posted a 4.4 era while his strikeouts per 9 and innings pitched went down. An obvious sign that luck played a big part in his season and that dice k is not a real 18 win pitcher or a pitcher that will consistently have an era below 3 or even 4, Thats why dice k is a decent number 3 starter who was a phenom in japan and igawa was solid in japan and he is a AAAA pitcher in the states.

One last thought before I sign off.

Every generation has someone who died too young. First, there was James Dean. Then Bruce Lee, River Phoenix, Brandon Lee, and this generation’s loss was Heath Ledger. It’s great how these actors and others before them are forever memorialized in film.

Some of you should be careful, your sexism is showing. If this was a 50 year old guy with a 33 year woman people would be saying how cool and how much of a stud he is. Even the comments about her looks; she’s 50 there is no need for her to look 25. What is wrong with looking one’s age? She’s an older woman so she needs to be put out to pasture or something? This relationship (and its age difference) does not need for anyone to get it, understand it, like it, believe it, approve of it, or agree with it.

I don’t have a problem as a diehard Yankee fan for A-Rod to date whomever he likes no matter the age..What I do have a problem with is: These May to December romances to distract him from our team getting to a World Series THIS NEXT YEAR,and making it all about him.
