Brewers offer arbitration to CC, Sheets

Peter Abraham
December

As expected, Milwaukee offered arbitration to CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets today. Both are Type A free agents, so signing them will cost a draft pick.

Can’t imagine either of them accepts it.

In response to a few e-mails, the arbitration rules have changed under the new CBA. There was a time that not offering arbitration meant a team could not negotiate with that player until May. That is no longer the case. The Yankees could not offer any of their guys and still sign them.

any news on andy? would they offer him arbitration knowing he’d take it and be forced to pay him more than he made last year?

Wow the yankees are really cheap considering the payroll is at about 120 million currently. I guess the yanks felt they couldn’t risk the 4 million it may have cost them to ensure that if pettitte decides to leave that the yanks would get the dodgers draft picks. Not only does this guarantee that we will get absolutely nothing if pettitte leaves but it also may make pettitte feel less wanted than he already does as the yanks clearly do not want to pay him anything close to the 16 million he made last season. Pettitte on the other hand is sent a clear message that the yanks will pay him no more than 12 million and probably around 10 if he wants to come back to NY.

Currently, if the dodgers offered him 16 mil, pettitte may accept and the yanks would lose a starter and get absolutely nothing. There is being economical and then, there is a team being cheap – this was a cheap move. If pettitte leaves, cashman will look like a fool but im sure the media will keep drinking the cashman kool aid and frame it as though no one could foresee such a situation.

CC is a fat toad! Yanks should NOT sign him, especially since he’s left them hanging for so long. CC? No, No!!

Do you have some inside information that the Yankees didn’t offer him arbitration? The deadline is tonight, we don’t know yet if they will or will not offer it. Most likely, they will. Arbitration hearing would probably go the Yankees way after the season he had last year, he’d probably get about what we wanted to give him anyway.

In a perfect world we offer Abreu arbitration and he accepts. Getting him on a one year deal would be excellent and really give us an offensive boost. I understand that his range is awful, but it really isn’t that much worse than Nady’s.

Abreau yes. I hope they do not offer to petite. He would not take an offer for less than 16mm. He is a baby with weak character and a hidden but huge ego.

Yanks should offer Pettitte a contract for $16 million, but only if he promises to start taking HGH again.

How can the Yankees not offer arb to Rodriguez.WE have Posada and Molina who is the best back-up catcher in the game and was a better defender then Posada and Rodriguez.

Do the Yankees actually think Rodriguez is gonna accept arb with two other catchers locked for the position and better then him?

  12. Mr. Exceptional

    No on Abreu. Sign Sheets.

with the exception of maybe El Duque, Andy Pettite have been the biggest game pitcher for the Yankees the past 25 years. 100% pure will and heart.

    turn in your yankee fan-card.

So when are those west coast teams going to present CC’s agent with an offer?

Can we get Madonna to cast a spell?

Does anyone know when a player can be traded if he accepts arbitration? Would the Yankees or any team need to wait until a certain date before they can trade that player?

  16. myrtlebeachfan

We don’t need Pettitte, but there are few better 3rd-4th starters in the MLB who will give you consistency like he will.

  17. dave

    Chris,

I read that multiple industry sources reported pettitte will not be offered arbitration. And no, if pettitte accepted his salary would not go down from last season and may go up but not by much. Salary never really goes down after accepting arbitration from the prior season – it either stays the same or goes up.
