Brian Cashman is not headed to Vegas until tomorrow. So CC Sabathia can enjoy the fight at MGM Grand tonight without Cashman pestering him to take $140 million. Their big meeting will be tomorrow, it seems.
The Yankees need him to lose a bunch at the tables. That’ll convince the big lefty he needs more money. Either that or set him up like Sen. Pat Geary. Whatever it takes.
UPDATE, 11:57 p.m.: Wow, De La Hoya quit on his stool after 8 rounds. Pacquiao crushed him with his straight left hand all night, closing Oscar’s eye at the end. Pacquiao was blindingly fast and incredibly energetic. De La Hoya looked every second his age. This could be it for him.
A Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight would be something to see. He probably will get Ricky Hatton first.
Gen, a reader from Japan, just wrote to say that the Rakuten Golden Eagles officially announced the signing of Darrell Rasner. He will get $1 million in 2009 and has an option for $1.5 million for 2010. That’s at least twice what he would have made with the Yankees, so good for Darrell and his family.
Here’s wishing him well.
