Posada doing well with shoulder rehab

In addition to everybody else, the teams all have their trainers here for their annual meetings.
According to the Yankee trainers, Jorge Posada started his throwing program down in Tampa today and had no problems. He had been doing some preliminary work in New York last week.
Posada had extensive shoulder surgery in July. Brian Cashman has maintained for months that Posada will be his catcher. But obviously the Yankees will be closely monitoring how Posada is doing with his rehab.
But the early indications are positive. Posada is a very proud guy and did not take well to the disabled list last season. He’ll get after it with the rehab.

I feel like his personality was missed as much as his bat was last year. Hopefully they are both back in full effect come April.
Pete Abe is in rapid-fire update mode!
Cashman: We had a very productive meeting with CC last night. We learned that treating CC to a buffet dinner is a process. He’s made some great progress at the buffet and the last time I checked [glances at Blackberry], CC was close to finishing his meal.
Best news I’ve heard all day. Jorge is as much or more important to the team than many of the top FA’s they are trying to sign. Thanks for the update, Pete.
also, my bad if this was discussed in prior posts but what does everyone make of Ken Rosenthal’s report that Burnett talked to Pavano about what it was like to play for the Yankees.
I see it as a huge red flag. Why would Burnett think Pavano would have any useful information whatsoever to offer regarding a team that he almost never frickin played for? Unless he wanted to know how bad the fallout was when Carl sustained his many injuries, in which case…what is he, PLANNING on getting hurt?
Remember Ricciardi said the guy needed to toughen up and pitch through some pain. He did….in a walk year.
As dominant as he can be, there’s just so many reasons not to trust him.
Good to hear about Jorge

Oh wow, I lol’d.
Posada is a gamer I’m sure he’ll come back strong, as long as his body allows him.
I soooo can’t wait until the first time I get to say “HIP HIP JORGE!!” again. Woo Hoo, I’m all kinds of excited to be getting our catcher and unofficial co-captain back. Fingers crossed that everything continues to go well!
I like the way you think, BBB.
CC talks to Reggie Jackson; AJ talks to Pavano.
Where is the news!!!

As long as Pavano didn’t draw Burnett a map of all the places to hide until his check arrived in the mail.
Sabathia apparently told Colletti he wants to be a Dodger? Speaking to reporters, Colletti left it as a “possibility” the Dodgers could get involved.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/.....a-rum.html
What does it say about Cashman’s decisions on arbitration that almost no one accepted?
“What does it say about Cashman’s decisions on arbitration that almost no one accepted?”
Not sure. We don’t know that Abreu wouldn’t have accepted. My guess is (and this is only my opinion) that he would have because I think he really wanted to stay a Yankee.
I thought Burnett and Pavano are friends? At least, they were teammates at one time. Pavano could actually have very valuable information, you know, like how well he was treated by Brian Cashman and the Yankee organization in spite of all the injuries.
no. 27: As CB wrote a few threads ago, it could just say that most GM’s only offered arbitration to players who were likely to refuse it and didn’t offer it to players they were afraid would accept it.
“CC talks to Reggie Jackson; AJ talks to Pavano.”
Yikes. A study in contradictions if ever there was one.
I hope that Reggie told CC that just in case all this reactionary hysteria that Hal plans to sell the team is actually true, that he would save the day and get a group together to buy it so that the team would always be competitive.
At least AJ hasn’t been consulting with Alyssa Milano.
But CC, it has just been rumored, has placed a call to Scooter the Squirrel.
Gosh, i really hope CC Sabathia never reads this blog…you guys rip on his weight too much.
And believe it or not, there is a good chance someone he knows reads this blog…
Let’s try not to scare the big fella away just yet.

“Sabathia apparently told Colletti he wants to be a Dodger? Speaking to reporters, Colletti left it as a “possibility” the Dodgers could get involved.”
The Dodgers don’t even have 60 million to give to Manny, how are they gonna get 120 mil to give to CC. I’ve said this before a guy who calls other teams and pleads to play for them as a free agent has a real problem. Yanks need to pull the deal and let CC take 100 mil from some WC team. We are only being used to get him more coin at the moment.
no. 27: I don’t think other FA’s declining arbitration says anything about Cash’s lack of arb offers. Everyone’s situation is different. Someone like K-Rod has no reason to accept arb, and Abreu has every reason to accept since it’s a known fact he wants to be back here, and it’s the only way for him to get a raise instead of a pay cut.
Same thing with Pettitte. Jamie Moyer is a good person to compare his situation with, because he is in the similar one. The desire to work out a new deal with the Phillies is mutual, but theyre haggling over dollars. Knowing that Moyer would only get a raise in arb when what he really warrants at his age is a pay cut, why on earth would the Phils set themselves up to have to give him a raise? Ditto Pettitte and the Yanks.
The one thing that didn’t make sense to me was Varitek declining. But I suppose it means Boras and the Sox will illegally collude with a package deal again. Maybe the Angels will have more cojones than the Dodgers did with Drew and actually file a complaint about it.
Doreen: That’s actually a good point about Burnett and Carla, because apparently whatever Pavano told him didn’t dissuade him from wanting to be a Yankee. So maybe he did give Cash the props he deserved for not calling him out during his litany of injuries. Maybe he actually did take responsibility for the negativity of his time here.
Though I’m not sure he’d say his teammates treated him well. It’s no secret Moose couldnt stand him and ripped him all the time, even Johnson did a bit when he was here. then again, Pettitte was pretty nice to him, and he’s the only one who’ll still be with the team next year.
“Yeah, I was ready to sign with the Yankees until one of my boys tipped me off that they were ripping on my weight on the… the… what was that thing again? Lo Bud? Lo Sud? Oh yeah, LoHud… the LoHud blog. Man, they can keep their $40 million, I’m through with those clowns.”
Good one.
reggie earned around $10M in his career in baseball, i hardly think he’s got the scratch to get anybody together to buy the yankees, valued around $1B.
OT but…
*Tribune files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy*
Wow.
Cashman should call the issue with CC “I want to be a Dodger” Sabathia post haste. If he indeed said this within a date after the meeting (which we were told via an “unnamed source”) that “went well”, Cashman should suck it up and move on to Plan B, whatever that is. If CC really said that, he either is not a “stand-up” guy or the “meeting did not go very well”.
Take the “pie in the face”, pick up your marbles and go forward. Naturally, clarification should be sought from the CC camp, and even if there is a flat denial and “I want to be a Yankee” is the mantra of the day, CC should be presented with a “drop dead” date with a short fuse.
“30,000 words to say nothing of substance. Cashman in front of a microphone is not a pretty picture”
he’s not that bad.
A good negotiator knows when he is being played.
my guess is that cash doesnt intend to sign both cc and aj. if he did, hed be going hard after aj now, and if he got him it would put pressure on cc to sign before the yankees money goes elsewhere. i think the plan is either cc or aj, then go lower down the list for a back of the rotation starter.
hamfighters – didn’t he also make a boatload of money from investing in Compaq though? i could be wrong as he’s before my time, but I thought I remembered reading that.
i always heard what a good businessman he was in general. I bet he’s got some serious bank. not $1b, but he could find additional investors.
i also love that I am falling victim to the reactionary “Hal’s selling the team!!!111!” crew by talking about this like it’ll ever actually happen, lol.
I should add that it is unlikely that the Dodgers will either the dollars or cajones to pull off the CC deal irrespective of CC’s wishes. But that is not the issue if indeed CC made that statement.
“Burnett talked to Pavano about what it was like to play for the Yankees.”
The real question isnt if he talked to Pavano or not. Its if it was in person or by phone. Does anyone know if you can you get Pavanoitus by phone?
Great post on Sabathia right here:
http://thechuckknoblog.blogspo.....worth.html
If CC called a team as a free agent to beg to come there we need to pull the deal right now so he can get the message and grovel for 100 million. Bye CC it was nice courting ya onto Tex!
Nick SF,
You laugh it up pal, but you probably don’t weight 300 pounds like CC does.
Don’t make the mistake of assuming that all he cares about is money. is there really a difference between making 20 and 23.33 million dollars? Not to a multi-millionaire.
Speaking of which, that silly article by Bill Madden is a farce. How does anyone know that Genske is holding back Sabathia? How do we know Sabathia isn’t holding back Genske from pulling the trigger on the Yankee money?
I’m not saying he doesn’t want to play here, but every little factor plays its own part.
Rabbid fans cracking jokes about your weight is one of the little things. Represents a part of the whole of Yankee fans and how brutal (usually unnecessarily) they can get.
Anybody buy into the rumor on RAB about 8 years, 20/yr for Texiera from Angels?
Al,
where did you read that bit about the dodgers?
joe b,
I don’t know, but I hope he takes it if its true. One less team of leverage for CC.
God, that feels really bad to have to even say…one less west coast team to worry about.
I’m laughing at you, Mad Prince, not CC. I’m just hoping that CC’s LoHud-reading pal doesn’t warn him away from NY because some Yankee fans are humor-challenged.
And to Al and Arial (Ariel yesterday?): I don’t care who CC calls and what he says to them as long as he ends up in pinstripes. Don’t panic!
“Rabbid fans cracking jokes about your weight is one of the little things. Represents a part of the whole of Yankee fans and how brutal (usually unnecessarily) they can get.”
Yeah cuz CC totally reads LoHud. If he does CC stop playing games with us call Cash up and tell him no amount of money could convince you to leave Cali.
Concerning this whole “factors weighing in CC’s decision” (no pun intended) thing, as bad as I want him to be a Yankee I am starting to think he’s taking this a little too far. Today I read on MLBTR that he hates having ST in Florida, so thats a point against the Yankees.
First of all as a former Floridian, what exactly is so bad about Florida? Second, does it really matter where he has Spring Training? It’s not like they spend a ton of time there each year. Third, I’ve only been to 4 or 5 different ST facilities (all in FL), but I’d be shocked if there were a single one in FL or AZ that was as nice as Legends – er, excuse me, Steinbrenner Field.
I just think this location stuff is being taken a bit too far now. Hopefully it’s just a negotiation ploy on the part of his agent, because then it’s only business, not true anal retentiveness.
Nick,
You can laugh at me all you want, I’m not the guy with the weight problem.
There are non-stop jabs at CC’s weight on here…I’m not talking about anyone in particular. I read something every day about how much CC loves cake, buffet tables, yada yada yada.
Its unnecessary.
An before you jump to the conclusion that I am on offended, over-weight guy, don’t jump. I’m quite the opposite.
“Al,
where did you read that bit about the dodgers?”
aron-baka 5:46 post via MLB.COM
Just catching up.
Olney reporting won’t decide this week?
Who the hell doesn’t know how to spell “mediocre”? That was the funniest part of that whole thread.
Nick, no one is getting your Warren Spahn references.
*CC won’t decide this week*
I think Mad Prince has a valid point…its petty insults.
And whether or not CC reads the blog himself is erroneous. Its unnecessary.
To CC, if you’re reading this – Biggie or Tupac? Beatles or Stones? Ginger or Mary Anne?

Hes basically trying to shun the Yankees in an indirect manner. Yankees need to take the hint that he has no interest in being here. Its a win-win pull the deal and you save 140 milion and you cost CC 40-50 million.
Nick, its like someone unnecessarily ragging on you for being gay based on your living in SF even though you very well may not be gay and SF being overridden with gay people being an unnecessary generalization.
CC is a big dude, but he very well may have a better diet than 99% of the people on here.
Some people were downright BRUTAL during the days around Thanksgiving. Just completely unnecessary.
Al,
Im with you on this one. We all know that no one is going to out bid us. We’ve had the offer out there for a month now. Does he think we are the Royals? Where we have to out bid other teams to have them come here? There are still many players that would love to be in this orginization. Im not asking for a player that was a born Yankee fan. But i dont want to be the “No one wants me that bad.what the hell pick”. Get Sheets/Penny for short term deals and see what they can do for us. Treat them like one complete starter. If we get a half year from each at full potential. Ill take it.
Sorry to rant people, but generalizations and unnecessary, pithy insults really bug me. They have no place in a forum about sports or anywhere else for that matter.
from a previous post
Mad Prince,
Thanks bro. I keep refreshing espn, fox sports and Pete waiting for a big fish to be had. Hope Cash can make a big splash this week. Be early christmans present.
Not sure about a 10 year deal for Jesus. I would only go 6 with a 7th year team option. Beggers cant be choosers i guess.
Mad Prince, as long as I have your blessing to laugh all I want, I will continue to do so. Thank you. I will also continue to believe, as I have throughout this entire process, that CC will end up in pinstripes.
mel, what you mean that no one is getting my Warren Spahn references? I’m referring to a real award that CC has now won in 2007 and 2008. Did you think I was trying to make a funny?
Al,
Great point. Perhaps it is an indirect way of saying no thank you.
Nick, try to understand the point Mad Prince is trying to make. Maybe he is being overly sensitive, but its kind of absurd and disrespectful.
Mad Prince, was the 6:22 post supposed to augment your argument?
“To CC, if you’re reading this – Biggie or Tupac? Beatles or Stones? Ginger or Mary Anne”
you said CC? Forgot Big Mac or Whopper.
and NY thin or Chicago deep-dish.
I may have made a crack or two about CC’s weight, but never to be mean.
But, if I’m going to pay someone that kind of money, I’d want him to take better care of himself.
He’s 28 now, so he can carry that kind of weight. But when he gets to the other side of 30, it might catch up with him. It’s not that he’s just big-boned, he’s carrying the weight in the wrong part of his body.
He’s said that his whole family’s built like him so it’s not a problem, but we’re not paying $140M to his family members.
The weight’s not an issue now, but if he doesn’t control it then it can become a problem.
I wonder where the infamous “Bobcat” is this offseason.
Do any of you remember him from last year?
“Al,

I couldn’t agree more sos. This is the NY Yankees, not the KC Royals or Nationals we don’t deserve this treatment from a guy we are intending to pay 140 million for. Go get Tex a guy who actually watched the Yanks and Donnie baseball growing up, who respects the organization. Then we can get AJ and resign Andy and the team looks pretty good. I am over this situation already this feels just like Maddux and I remember getting upset over him I am done fretting about CC.
Do any of you remember him (Bobcat) from last year?
yup.
Nick,
LOL. No, I don’t think you’re trying to be funny. But no one has acknowledged it (until I just did). They only care that he’s a stud pitcher. They don’t even care that he doesn’t even want to be here. Blank check! Spring training in Fremont for the next 6 years!
Jake: if the Mad Prince doesn’t think jokes that relate to CC being large aren’t funny, that’s fine. It’s his suggestion that any such joke made on LoHud might be a factor in CC’s decision on where to sign that I find laughable.
Al and SoS: Though I didn’t before, I’m starting to agree that CC’s silence is a way of indirectly shunning the Yanks. Thing is, I believe he still could be convinced to sign with us. But the amount of convincing he’s seeming to require is becoming embarrassing now. 100% right it’s not like we’re the Royals. This is the New York Yankees, the greatest franchise in the history of sports. If he doesnt see the pride in putting on this uniform then maybe it’s best for all parties if he does go elsewhere.
Can you imagine what someone like Munson, Mantle or Murcer would say to learn that this star pitcher has to be coerced to accept the richest pitching contract in baseball history from the NY Yankees?
Despite all that though, in the end I guess I’m still left w/a bit of a fear that if we stop going hard after him, we end up with none of the top tier guys. If Boras really does have some sort of back room package deal going with the Sox for Fairytek and Teix, it could happen.
So who has the best restaurants, west or east coast?
mel,
and that very well may be a valid point…but that is not why i am commenting on this.
People consistently make cracks about CC loving to eat cake, turkey, stuffing, buffet food, yada yada yada.
If they want to raise the concern similar to how you did, that’s one thing, but other such comments are absurd.
i’ve read it multiple times a day since CC has been a focal point of the Yankees and its disgraceful.
I’m asking for CC of course.
Does CC look at us and see a fat girl that wants to go to the prom but you can’t tell her ‘no’ outright because the other girls might think you’re a jerk?
Nick,
Thats only part of my point.
Those kind of jibes are insulting to people.
Its unclassy and disgraceful.
“Do any of you remember him from last year?”
How can we not Mad Prince. “They will tell you what they want you to hear.”
Hell,he had Santana coming here stamped sealed and delivered.
“So who has the best restaurants, west or east coast?”
not even a debate. East.
GB7
Just read your post from early this morning about the Pittsburgh fire sale. Certainly sounds like a better shopping plan than the one Cash is into today. What do you think it would take to find a SP there?
Hawaii has the best food!
““To CC, if you’re reading this – Biggie or Tupac? Beatles or Stones? Ginger or Mary Anne”
you said CC? Forgot Big Mac or Whopper.
and NY thin or Chicago deep-dish.”
I guess we’re both beyond help in this area, cause I definitely lol’d.
deep dish is crap
East Coast has the best food by far. Has anyone from NY or NJ ever tried to eat what they call a bagel in Southern California? yikes!!!
The East Coast West Coast food argument is pointless.
They both feature incredible food if you look in teh right places.
I will guarantee that you will find a better burrito in California than you could ever hope to find anywhere on the west coast.
anywhere on the *east coast*
“Does CC look at us and see a fat girl that wants to go to the prom but you can’t tell her ‘no’ outright because the other girls might think you’re a jerk?”
I hope not. Although, it would be like looking at Angelina Jolie (or Selita Ebanks to my liking) and regarding them as the ‘fat girl’
BBB,
Once again, its about looking in the right places.
noah’s new york bagels, and outfit out of berkely has the socal market wrapped up. their bagels are steamed instead of boiled. the crust is all wrong.
So no more cracks about CC’s love for all-you-can-eat-buffets?
Does that mean no more jokes about Madonna and Alex and their wacky love?
Or Jeter’s outdated haircut?
Or Matsui’s sketching abilities?
Or Edwar probably weighing as much as CC’s left arm?
Or Hank being..um..Hank?
Who knows who is reading this blog!
Their feelings might get hurt.
WR packin heat,
Noahs bagels are not steamed. Where’d you hear that?
if they are steamed, then that is just shocking…they don’t taste steamed.
you have to understand that california is over the top with respect to so-called “healthy” eating…
“Or Matsui’s sketching abilities?”
you left out: porn-collection
And definitely no more jokes about New Yorkers being absolute scumbags.
So when is CC going to indirectly tell us no thanks again?
Sounds like a majority of this crowd is giving up on him going to New York.
despite my prior homerism, I agree that most cuisine has good incarnations on both coasts. But bagels, I dunno, man. The ones I’ve tasted there literally taste like…like…coarse buttered rolls or something. Absolutely vile. And I went to a Kosher deli in LA, you’d think they could get it right if anyone!
A NY transplant I know in Cali. said there is some scientifical reason they taste different. Can’t remember what. Maybe something abt water quality or pressure?
Iv made some big boned jokes before. Actually they were a concern of his weight. I do remember when Pettitte was getting a little heavy around the waste in the 90′s. But C.C. reminds me more of a Colon. Yes their is always guys like Wells that pull it off. But i dont want someone on the mound who in a few years cant field a bunt. Thats not a joke.
BBB,al join me on saying no to C.C. If he wanted to come here, he would have signed by now. You and Peavy can enjoy the N.L/WEST COAST. Lets stop being the bait in free agency. So these players continue to get high dollar for just mentioning that they wouldnt mind playing for us. 26 should be the only thing we have to say to these guys. If you want to win, come on down. If you only green m & m’s at your hotel. Go somewhere else. BTW he has taken a nose dive in the playoffs. So nothing is gueranteed anyways.
vinny-b: Ah! I totally forgot about Matsui’s love for the X-rated movies.
CC, if you are reading, Matsui might loan some out to ya.
the steaming process was developed to greatly increase the batch size you could bake at one time. the oven steams, then vents and bakes then up to 35 doz at a time. it eliminates to old jewish (now jamaican) guy who had to load those sticks of 6 bagels into the oven by hand.
SoS,
If only it were that simple.
I’d like to say no to CC if I didn’t think we need him more than any other team except maybe the Brewers who are up poop creek if they lose he and Sheets.
But ya, if there is any substance to these words he said to Colletti, then maybe it is time we pull the offer. But what do I know.
Wow, I just thought again about the fact that AJ Burnett is looking for a contract almost as long as CC and for almost half as much $$$.
Man, talk about an injury risk, but suddenly it seems all that more swallowable.
perhaps “palatable” would have been a more appropriate word what with all this food talk.
basically, it like this:
if Texeria signs with LA Angels. Then CC is a New York Yankee.
if Texeria signs with Boston. Then CC is a LA-Anaheim Angel.
*Boston is the wild-card in all of this* And hold the power to (insert 4-letter word here) the NY Yankees.
If you want to get rid of all the immature, simple-minded bad-taste jokes on this blog, just ban the immature, simple-minded commenters with bad taste.
Go ahead, completely decimate Pete’s numbers.
“Burnett talked to Pavano about what it was like to play for the Yankees.”
And how would Pavano know what its like to PLAY for the Yankees?
