Howard Rubenstein has issued a statement attributed to George Steinbrenner:
“As a young man in Cleveland, I remember what a spectacular ballplayer Joe Gordon was. He was a great second baseman, a great Yankee and an inspiration to millions of Americans for many years. The Yankees are proud of his election.”

how can steinbrenner remember anything at this point? howard rubenstein is a joke
I think migames is a little harsh, but his point is valid.
Just release a general statement (”The Yankees are proud, etc.”) Attributing quotes to George is a little silly at this point.

And, of course you two know for sure that George Steinbrenner didn’t make that statement, correct?
I have a feeling George cant remember what he had for breakfast, let alone watching Joe Gordon as a young boy.

What is a joke is that you feel compelled to state the obvious.
Can’t say about George, any more than those above can, but in my experience oldsters who can’t remember this morning’s breakfast can often remember events and people from their youth with perfect clarity. I’m glad if George remembers Gordon and can feel happy about his election to the HOF.
