Where are you Brian Cashman?

Peter Abraham
December
9

That crafty Brian Cashman blew off his meeting with the New York writers today. According to an e-mail from the Yankees, “Unfortunately Brian is off hotel property and unavailble for the rest of the evening. This was not scheduled and we apologize for the inconvenience.”

This means one of two things:

1. Cashman is having dinner someplace nice with an agent.

2. He’s out looking for who killed Tupac.

I’ll go with door No. 1. Once we learn the particulars, we’ll let you know.

  1. Tom

He’s sprining O.J. from the klink.

  2. Bronx Jeers

The way CC appers to feel about NY, one would think the Steinbrenners killed Tupac.

  3. matt

    look out orlando anderson

  4. Al from BK( CC is a bum, enjoy 50 million less and pitching for the Giants!)

Hes obviously with Casey Close hammering out the Sheets deal :)

  5. Corey

love the 2pac comment. Humor helps in such dreary times. (and by dreary I mean the thought of tex going to boston and NY not getting burnett / sabathia at all)

  6. Ed - Cano WILL BE the 2009 2B!

option #2 actually made me LOL.

  7. Rafael O.

    Let’s hope it isn’t with Burnett’s agent…

  8. FormerBOX607

    Pete:

You’ve got to slip a lojack device into Cashman’s Jacket pocket. This is unacceptable.

  9. Brandon

He is probably out to dinner with an agent, or out to dinner, or at a meeting with another GM, to talk about a trade.

  10. jay destro

maybe he went to the rhino with giambi

  11. S.A.- CC Watch 2008: Making some Yankee fans go bonkers

I was gonna say he was off getting married to some showgirl, but then I remembered Mrs. Cashman.

  12. #9

“2. He’s out looking for who killed Tupac.”

BTW – Tupac has a movie and an album coming out in ‘09.

Hardest working dead dude in da bizness.

  13. Rafael O.

I wonder what else CashMoney can do in Vegas tonight…alone…hmm

  14. Ed - Cano WILL BE the 2009 2B!

    Girardi on Waldman’s show now.

  15. Stacey

    I bet he’s out gambling. :P
Or picking up a prostitute… only kidding!

  16. JR Yankees

The Giambino got hold of Cashman and they are presently bar hopping with strippers dressed up like Vince Vaughn in ‘Swingers.’

  17. #9

    “Girardi on Waldman’s show now.”

Don’t believe a word he says!

  18. GreenBeret7

According to MLB.com rumors, the Sheets deal is to be offered within the next 3 days. 2 years, 26 mil.

  19. MP

    Pete,

Or perhaps out with another GM hammering out a trade?

  20. Al from BK( CC is a bum, enjoy 50 million less and pitching for the Giants!)

If Tex goes to Boston Cash better brace for throngs of raging fans. I will be enlisted in this effort should we fail.

  21. jennifer

Brian, is inking the deal with CC?

  22. CK in LA

too embarrassed to admit he’s at the donny & marie show ;-)

  23. #9

“1. Cashman is having dinner someplace nice with an agent.
    2. He’s out looking for who killed Tupac. ”

    OR

    3. Engelbert Humperdinck is in town.

  24. jennifer

We don’t have any news yet, hopes to have it pretty soon. Sounds close……..

  25. Tseng

#2 makes a lot of sense. Cashman is/was a big fan of Tupac and drew upon his work for inspiration when he developed his baseball philosophy.

  26. jennifer

Pete quick, go knock on his door and yell room service. If he answers the door you know it is a load, and maybe you can sneak a peek in the room.

  27. Vader

Could he be out with Towers cutting a deal for A-gonz?

  28. We need the big guy!!

Maybe Arod and Giambi are showing him some of there nice hang out places?!

  29. Corey

So what happens to Cashman’s support if Sabathia goes elsewhere, Tex goes to Boston and Burnett goes to Atlanta?? Just curious how many of you will be getting your nooses ready

  30. john

    here comes cc

  31. Phil

    Brian Cashman is Ocean’s 14!

  32. Tseng

    Corey,

Bosox can’t get Tex without trading ortiz or lowell. They’ve got no slot in their lineup for him.

  33. Joe from Long Island

Has anyone ever been dumped by a girlfriend/boyfriend? How much control do any of us have over that?

  34. Al from BK( CC is a bum, enjoy 50 million less and pitching for the Giants!)

“Bosox can’t get Tex without trading ortiz or lowell. They’ve got no slot in their lineup for him.”

Their is a thought in the game that the sux will let lowell ride the pine if they cant trade him. Its not like the Sux to have 13 million riding the bench IMO.

  35. vin

“3. Engelbert Humperdinck is in town.”

OK… I can take the prostitution jokes, and the strip club cracks… but Engelbert Humperdink is where I draw the line. CAN YOU GIVE MY TOWN A BREAK?!?!?! lol.

  36. JUSTIN

LOL 2PAC IS DEAD ???? MLB TRADE RUMORS SAYS HE NOT ….

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT I LOVE HOW CC IS USING THE YANKS ITS VERY OBVIOUS HE DOES NOT WANNA PLAY HEAR THE OFFERS R NOT EVEN CLOSE WHAT COULD HE BE WAITING 4…CASH SHOULD GIVE HIM A DEAD LINE AND IF HE REJECTS THEN MOVE ONN

  37. Ed - Cano WILL BE the 2009 2B!

    Giambi met with Maddon: http://dailyfiasco.com/wp-cont.....giambi.jpg

  38. AROD fan

Maybe playing trick on beat writers/retaliation for anti-girardi revolt? Maybe trying to make it look like he’s making progress w fa’s by chillin w a local female?

  39. AROD fan

Giambi is too old for maddon…

  40. .John

    Peter,

I am going to fail my Family Law exam because of you.

But, I appreciate you making the pre-test hours more enjoyable. Keep up the good detective work and see if you can convince Mr. Cashman to take a chance on a 25-year-old left-lander who hasn’t pitched since he was 13, but hasn’t injured his buttocks in that time either.

    Thanks.

  41. Joe

WFAN speculating Cashman meeting Sheets to offer a deal.

  42. EvoLuTioN

lets hope it doesn’t have anything to do with the 4 years 65+mill negotiation with Lowe that Heyman from SI reported.

  43. AROD fan

Also, if we don’t get cc we might as well drive up the price for other teams

  44. vinny-b (sign big CC and Sheets at 2 yrs)

maybe GI Joe (like the nicknmae) having his stamp of approval on Sheets, will help the process.

  45. Beanietown

I am in Vegas right now. I see a guy that looks just like him sitting with a strange looking dude. Quick, Pete, get over here. I’m at 900 E Karen #H-102. It’s the Ramrod Restaurant.

  46. Tom

He and Giambi are dressed up like Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo they were last seen with a bottle of ether going in to Circus Circus.

  47. jennifer

Pete did you go to Cash’s room? Is he there?

  48. vinny-b (sign big CC and Sheets at 2 yrs)

Joe Girardi just threw Grissom out at 2nd base. How can he be in Las Vegas?

    nevermind: YES replay

  49. Ed - Cano WILL BE the 2009 2B!

I hope Sheets jumps on the first offer but its not going to happen.

  50. John

Oh boy… Justin, do you understand how if its “very obvious” to everyone that C.C. is “using the Yanks” it kinda undermines his threat to other teams that he will sign with the Yanks.

You, my friend, have just made an argument that shoots itself in the head.

  51. yewnork

You media guys should have pooled funds and placed a tracking device on Ca$hmoney’s car.

  52. Nick in SF

Joe from L.I.: Love is cruel. :(

  53. Jake

    1. He’s robbing the Bellagio!!!

    2. With How CC is playing him, he’s auditioning for the new victim on CSI

    3. Scott Boras had a flat tire, and he went to fix it.

    4. He’s under sheets, with a hooker.

  54. michelle (X is the best letter in the alphabet!)

    Peter,

speaking of nice restaurants – If you get a chance you have to go to Craftsteak….stay away from carnevino…. and keep up the good work.

  55. Trevor

Good go get Sheets. He’s a safer bet then Burnett. Also better then Burnett and more consistent when healthy.

  56. matthew frags

    JOE-

I hope so! Ben Sheets would be a great signing. It allows the Yanks the flexibility to do many things.

They could still sign CC… Or TEX…

They could still sign AJ or Manny.

Why not spend 3 years and 35 million or so on an ace… Bargain deal. I think he’ll stay healthy. He has great K:BB ratio.

A good initial salvo, which leaves room for Yanks to still go in many directions.

  57. gayle

Got the best laugh of the night so far when John STerling called into Suzyn’s Hot Stove show. If anyone listens to the guy who impersonates him on WFAN the little bit they just did was spot on it could have been that guy

  58. CB

“I hope Sheets jumps on the first offer but its not going to happen.”

That’s the thing. Sheets isn’t just going to accept anyone’s first offer.

On a two year deal Sheets is attractive.

But what if he starts commanding 3 years. How about 4?

Burnett at 5yrs doesn’t look very good and Sheets at 2 may look much more attractive.

But if its Burnett for 5 yrs(who has had TJ surgery already and recovered) vs. Sheets for 3 (who hasn’t had TJ surgery and could need it) how do you figure out who is the better risk?

    It’s just not very straightforward.

  59. Marky Mark Talks to Mammals

Pete, eat dinner at Lotus of Siam! Best thai in the US!

  60. Phil - 27 in '09

Heck, sign them all…CC, Burnett, Sheets, and Lowe. You can never have enough pitching. Joba’s on an innings cap. Wang is the only sure thing (assuming he doesn’t get hurt).

    I’m kidding…or am I?

  61. .John

Would someone mind giving me a quick summary of what the consensus is on Sheets in terms of health (i.e. do people generally see him to be “over” his injury or a constant risk)

Either way, I like the idea if you can get him for cheap. Hughes can fill in when he misses starts and gradually progress over the next two years, maybe?

  62. Bret the Hitman

I suspect Sheets is grabbing this Yankees offer sooner than expected. Big Ben has been stuck on a losing team his whole life and he wants to follow CC to the promised land. I think Big Ben realizes CC is ours and the Yankees winning tradition trumps anything that Milwaukee ever offered him.

    YES!

  63. Bret the Hitman

    “This was not scheduled”

This can only be good news.

  64. Paul

Pete — At least you could have found out if Cashman brought his whoopie cushion along with him to the dinner! Cheers!

  65. Nick in SF

Wait, Giambi met with Maddona??? What’s THAT about??

    Oh, it was Maddon?

    Never mind.

  66. Phil

You fax offers, you meet to close.

  67. michelle (X is the best letter in the alphabet!)

This is a pretty good website chronicling Ben sheets, his injuries, his delivery and his accomplishments

    http://www.hardballtimes.com/m.....en-sheets/

  68. Bret the Hitman

The deal, some deal, one deal is about to be sealed.

  69. Housekeeping

mlbtraderumors.com is reporting that Cashman just requested housekeeping to change his Sheets and has no interest in the less soiled pitcher of the same name.

  70. Nick in SF

Maybe Hal instituted a new “coffee is for closers” rule and Cashman just fell asleep?

    —————————–

What noose, we sign Sheets, Pettitte and Manny and throw a party. Someone has already suggested pizza, but as Manny is involved, I opt for empanadas.

  72. Yankee Trader

    ALL-

Michelle posted a good site on Sheets. Read the last part by Chris Neault.

Seems unless he changes his mechanics that he’s an arm injury waiting to happen, much like what I’ve read about peavy.

  73. Joeysdadjoe

Still think we’re getting CC.When all is said and done Cash will go to 7/180 if needed.Teams can’t reach our initial offer once we counter it’s done.

  74. LathamJoe

“2. He’s out looking for who killed Tupac.”

    Nice one, Peter! How ’bout:

    3. With OJ behind bars, he’s out on the Golf Courses looking for “the real killers”

  75. michelle (X is the best letter in the alphabet!)

thanks Yankee Trader — it’s a pretty telling website. Although, if a good pitching coach can get a hold of sheets, and straighten out his mechanics, maybe he can be saved.

  76. Yankee Trader

    Pete and all-

Pitching mechanics will determine how successful we are in the starting pitching department. Real concerns about Burnett and Sheets mechanics and durability. Not keen on Lowe, who really wants to go back to Boston.

Teixeira IMO will sign with Boston, unless we become players.

Manny will be signed by the Dodgers, because I really think he likes it there.

Sabathia will then be signed by the Angels, who can trade one of their starters for another hitter.

If this is the possible scenario, then I’m all for getting Teixeira and looking at the 2nd tier free agent starters, possibly getting someone like Brad Penny on a one year incentive backup plan. If we sign Pettitte, we still need two starters.

Thoughts on how this might all play out?

  77. Rock Smoother

    Pete,

You have the audio from the Girardi Press Conf?

  78. Mike

    Bunny Ranch ???

  79. Tupac

Why was my comment deleted? All I did was state who killed Tupac based on the book by Randall Sullivan. Tupac was killed by Suge Knight who hired Amir Mohammed, David Mack, and other corrupt cops.

  80. Yankee girl

Cashman is in a panic. He messed up big time with Santana last year and now he is out to offer deals to every free agent pitcher.
But, he needs to open the farm and trade some of our excess young pitching to get David DeJesus, We need a qualtiy Center Fielder who is clutch and the same at First Base. Swisher is a utitly man and nothing more.
We need Texieria . He got to give up on CC. He is using us like a violin. Pull the offer and move on. He can’t let the Blosox get Texieria .
Or he needs to see if we can get in on the Peavy deal . Or seeif we can get Matt Cain.

  81. viridiana

Move on Tex– before it’s too late

  82. Michael

Has anyone seen “Very Bad Things”? Maybe Cash is out in the desert burying the evidence.

  83. SDYankee

He’s at Cheetahs getting a lap dance.

  84. bobby

We need Tex we cant go from DONNIE,TINO,GIAMBI TO SWISHER.Firsbase for years has been our most famous position.

  85. bobby

Why do we want CC. He will be miserable here then he will pitch like crap and demand a trade just like RandyJ.Atleast Santana wanted to come here.

  86. Mike

Do people really not see the difference between the Santana and the Sabathia situations?!? The issue with Santana was that Cash would have had to part with both prospects and financial resources. Sabathia is simply about giving him the money.

Cashman didn’t make a mistake last offseason. If Phil Hughes turns into a #2 or 3 starter and CC signs in NY, the Yankees will be applauded for showing that restraint and still getting an ace lefty.

  87. Corey

DeJesus is good….but did anyone think of Rick Ankiel? He’s gonna be worth about $3M in 09 through arbitration….and he has a cannon for an arm. Lets do an Ankiel-Kennedy swap…. ;-o

  88. Brian Cashman's dad

Ankiel for Kennedy/Melky can be interesting.

    Anks is young too.

  89. bobby

We understand that Mike but CC is not coming here. Also Iam not sure but did Santana have a NO TRADE? Also I think Hughes looks and piches like a wimp I dont care he is 22 look at king felix and Beckett powerful and aggressive.

  90. RichinVegas

mlbtraderumors says the Cashman flew to San Fran to meet with CC and his wife.

  91. bru

wfan saying cc is a yankee?

    is this a joke?
