Signing Furcal to play 2B could be a great idea and would be possible if we trade Cano. Furcal isn’t a type A or B this year as he didn’t qualify. I would be fine with CC, Sheets, Tex, Pettite, and Furcal. Trading Matsui to the Mariners seems like a solid idea as well since they could use a DH type and he could thrive in Seattle with the Japanese contingent there. I’m on board!

Maybe you’re right Bret. Like I said, I’m not really familiar with the rules, but other places I’ve read that it’s the number of Type A/B free agents who file that matter, not the number of free agents in total. I don’t personally know though, I’ve never really been clear on that rule.

I don’t know where you got that Bret but they left out an extremely important thing…I’m almost positive that it’s not the number of free agents, it’s the number of type A/B free agents who file. I don’t know what that number is but it’s probably under 63.

The Yankees can sign as many Type A free agents as they want…

“Limits on free agent signings

If only 0-14 players in all of Major League Baseball file for free file for free agency, no team may sign more than one “Type A” or “Type B” player (terms defined below).

If 15-38 players file for free agency, no team may sign more than 2 such free agent players.

If 39-62 players file for free agency, no team may sign more than 3 such free agent players.

If 63 or more players file for free agency, then there are no such limits applied.”
