Just finished watching Larsen's perfect game on the new MLB Network. They showed the bleachers full of fans and that area that is always blacked out in dead centerfield was full of fans in white shirts with absolutely no black background for the batters.

They also showed the Dodgers using the shift against Mickey Mantle when he batted in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Very good look back at the so-called 'good old days'.

Funny to see the catcher throwing the ball around the other infielders after a putout and the batters swinging two bats in their hands in the days before the weighted bat donuts. No DH and the pitchers did not stand in the ON DECK circle waiting to bat. They sat in the dugout.

yay I got MLB Network in my SD cable and on my HD cable I got both SD and HD verisons of the channel on Time Warner.

But the HD verison of the channel isn't working and redirects to the Golf channel but on the guide I have it listed as MLBHD

Theo wastes money taking a private plane on pointless recruiting trips to Texas while John Henry runs up his internet bill sending bitter emails.

Cashman, meanwhile, flies commercial into Oakland (the Bay Area's budget airport) and saves money by having CC and AJ share a single press conference.

That's the difference.

Tom:

Looks like the Red Sox brought in 263 million in revenue in '07. I'm guessing that number increased last season due to some extra seats added to Fenway and increased merchandise sales after winning the World Series. They did have a negative operating income in '07 but it's not enough to excuse the way they've cut payroll this year. Inexcusable to hear them calling "poor us." Inexcusable.

Here's the list from Forbes I used to get my numbers:

It would be interesting to see how much of their total revenue the Yankees put back into the team payroll compared to the Red Sox.

I only say this because there was an article writen by Richard Justice that took the Astros owner to task for saying baseball needs a salery cap because the Yankees spend so much. However, the Astros put less then 50% of there baseball revenue back into the the payroll.

Doreen ..... I'm not being interesting, I'm afraid. With the exception of my reply to CB (alluding to the Yankees' $70M payroll advantage), none of the recent "Brian (Red Sox Fan" posts have come from me.

It seems that the Cubs are clearing payroll, not so they can trade for Peavy, but so they can sign Milton Bradley.
