Hanley Ramirez is a young, MVP caliber player. Probably can be transitioned into CF immediately and plug our biggest remaining hole. Probably one of the few guys I'd prefer to have over manny in my pipe dream.

I'd be more than willing to give up Hughes, Betances, AJAX, and Nady. And although I'm not sure what the Marlin's needs are, a major league ready pitcher with ace potential, minor league pitch with ace potential, a highly regarded minor league OF, and a serviceable corner outfielder with only $3 mil left on his contract sounds like a good deal to me.

If not, sign manny and see whether Torre is willing to exchange Kemp for Kennedy, Melky, Matsui and a minor league pitcher.

The rumor in Seattle isn't going to happen. I live in Seattle and I didn't hear this. It would be talked about everywhere if it was.

Ken, great job! :)

Awesome post Pete!

Ray ---

I agree about Matsui vs LHP, but I think he should hit in the five hole against RHP.

Matsui had a great year vs LHP in 2005, but over his career he has not been very productive against lefties. Look at his annual OPS vs LHP:

2008 .751
2007 .814
2006 .626
2005 .972
2004 .726
2003 .776

I would expect to see Nady or Swisher DH against many lefties in 2009 if no trades are made that change the roster significantly.

Or, is this all a joke and someone just thought since the Manny Ramirez talk had been played out, we could keep it in the family, so to speak, by switching first names????

Question, why would Hanley Ramirez be available?

While I agree Cashman may not be finished, I don't see anything being done unless it's a knock-your-socks-off kind of deal being offered to him. I don't necessarily believe he is shopping around his "surplus" outfielders/DHs. What is surplus in December could be very, very valuable in February/March/April.

Anyone else read that the Mets might be interested in a trade for Andruw Jones? How crazy is that when Abreu is available on the FA market for cash only? Abreu seems exactly the kind of player that would appeal to the Mets. Unless they're not interested in 3-year commitments, either. Sounds like Bobby might have to set his sights on a shorter-term contract if he wants a job. If only he wasn't afraid of the wall.....

Went to the Rangers game last night. My first hockey game. So much more fun in person than on tv. We saw 3 fights, a guy go down and a stretcher called out (though he walked - oops, skated - off the ice on his own), and 8 goals being scored (the ninth happened after we left). Oh, and lest I forget, we also saw a human hockey puck race. Don't ask.

Mad Prince ---

I'm not crazy, but to totally rule out including Joba in a Hanley Ramirez trade is. I love Joba's potential as a starter and his proven ability out of the pen, but Ramirez has Cooperstown ability. That said, I would certainly try to do the deal without him.

Three top prospects would not decimate the Yankees system, not even close. If Hughes, Veras, Romine and Angelini gets it done I'd pull the trigger. Hughes , A-Jax and Romine might be too steep for me.

What legit price would you pay for a 26-year-old who is already among the best offensive players in the game?

Hanley would demand a king's ransom.

Any of you tempted to throw Joba into a trade discussion for HanRam are CRAZY. Hughes, sure, but Joba? No. That guy is going to take New York by storm over the next 10 years...be ready for it.

Our three best prospects would have to be included in any trade for Hanley and that would decimate what cashman has been rebuilding.
