So long 2008, 2009 has to be better
I briefly considered writing some sort of sappy farewell to 2008 post. But 2008 was not much of a year to look back on for the Yankees.
The team finished in third place after a disjointed, injury-filled season. We bid farewell to Yankee Stadium and Bobby Murcer, who millions regarded as a friend whether they knew him or not, passed away.
There’s a lot of hope on the horizon: a better roster, a new ballpark and hopefully the familiar sound of Bob Sheppard announcing the lineup on April 16.
Thanks to everybody who reads and supports this blog. It is my great privilege to work for an audience that has so much knowledge and passion for their team. It has been great getting to know so many of you.
Here’s wishing a happy, healthy and productive 2009 to you and your family. Thanks again.

Pete:
Happy New Year! I very much appreciate your blog and have checked in daily since I discovered you. Thanks for all your work keeping us informed. Good Luck to you and the Bombers in 2009. I am very much looking forward to this next year.
Pete, thank you for everything. You’ve made being a Yankees fan more fun, and I’m very appreciative of your blog.
Thanks for everything. =]
Happy New Year Pete… thanks for all you do…
Is it Spring yet??!!
Happy New Year Pete!
Thanks for all you do to keep our Yankees fix going!
Thanks to you, Peter.
All your work and community skills are appreciated. The firm hand on the tiller of a lifeboat filled with pinstriped fanatics. Before my prose gets any more purple, I’ll leave it at that.
I live in NYC, but am in Hong Kong for a short time. First place I look when I awake, though, is LoHud Yankee blog.
Happy New Year! I already celebrated.
Productivity is overrated. Have a Healthy and Happy New Year Everybody!
Drink a hope to Happy Years!

Pete,
Keep up the outstanding work!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
happy new year
Happy new year Pete! Your blog is one of my favorite places on the web, I hope you’re with us for a long time.
Happy New Year and all the best to you and yours Peter.
The warm weather of West Central Florida awaits you in less than 6 weeks . . . .
The happiest of New Years to Yankee fans everywhere.
Back at ya PA…
Hopefully this year we can grab that dinner!
Thanks Pete! Same to you and yours’. Rarely a day goes by without me reading your updates. Don’t know what I did before I discovered this, and it’s certainly more enjoyable to be a fan with all the info.
it was just an off year all around. no posada, no bob sheppard (having random p.a. guys and guys trying to copy sheppard). it’s a shame the old stadium went out in such a way. but i will say, i was at some of the last games vs. baltimore and it was an unbelievable feeling in the air. as jeter said, we’re bringing over all the fans and all the pride to the new place, so the feeling will remain the same. i have a feeling this will be a memorable season.

Here’s to 2009 being a great year for Pete, for all of us, and for our Yankees.
Peter,
Thanks so much for your holiday wishes and for all your hard work throughout the year making this THE Yankees site. It is particularly great for those of us who live in the diaspora, far away from NY. Reading your blog makes you feel at home!
Best wishes to you and all your readers for a healthy, happy 2009.
Uh, Steve Lombardi has been writing for SNY.com for a while now.
Happy New Year everyone.
HNYj! peter, everyone!
Happy new year, Pete. And thanks a lot for your outstanding job.
I can define my passion for the Yankees as BP and AP (Before Pete and After Pete).
The number of visitors and readers over here can not be a simple coincidence. The only reason is that you’re the best. The one and only Pete Abraham.
Hooray for the Yankees! until then, Twilight Zone marathon on Sci-fi! Weeeeeeeeeee!
Pete,
Thanks for the great blog! 2008 was a memorable year because of your efforts, and we are looking forward to more of the same in 2009 as the Yankees drive for the elusive 27th crown! But the stars are aligned to make it happen this coming year…new stadium, true ace leading the staff, and defense at first, and oh yeah, your tremendous blogs!
Scott
Happy new year, Pete. And thanks a lot for your outstanding job.
To me, my passion for the Yankees is now defined as BP and AP (Before Pete and After Pete).
The number of visitors and readers over here can not be just a coincidence. It is because you are the best. By far.
The one and only ….. PETE ABRAHAM
You’re a good writer. You have a great sense of detail and you know your baseball, meaning you know what to look for and know how to make things come across. I enjoy this blog very much. As a longtime Yankee fan, I look forward to more of your common sense in 2009. Thanks and Happy New Year!
And this is the year that Melky Cabrera bats .400! I just know it!
Thanks, Pete – you’ve become an indispensable part of my day. Can’t wit until opening day!
Pete – Have a Happy and safe New Year’s celebration, as well as a good 2009.
Rebecca – Happy New Year yourself. Again, best of luck in your education and life ahead of you.
Let’s Go Yankees! Can’t wait till spring training starts.
Rebecca, This is interesting:

A very blessed, healthy, and prosperous New Year to all of you from out here in the big OC.
I’m with you Pete, 09 has got to be better for the Yankees.
And Pete, thanks for all you do, especially for keeping those of us who are Yankee fans in exile up to date and well-informed.
Hey Gus,
Did you find out the scoop re the MLB Network on Time Warner at work today?
Happy New Year, Pete.
from previous thread:
Theo wastes money taking a private plane on pointless recruiting trips to Texas while John Henry runs up his internet bill sending bitter emails.
Cashman, meanwhile, flies commercial into Oakland (the Bay Area’s budget airport) and saves money by having CC and AJ share a single press conference.
That’s the difference.
from this thread only:
I think 2009 will be better for the Yankees, but it doesn’t have to be. Things can always be worse. But I CC good things for us all.
I would like to wish all of you a happy and healthy 2009!
And to all of you punsters – I’ve been out and about and just caught up with some of the later posts in the last thread. I am impressed with how long you all were able to draw out the bread/grain references. Good work!
Stay safe if you’re venturing out tonight — and warm!
Great JOB Pete !
Thanks Pete,
Have a happy New Year ! If you ever get to Scranton let me know and we’ll catch a SWB Yankees game.

Thank you, Doreen. It was fun. The Pun Police has let us out of jail, but, we had to promise not to do that again. Naturally, we promised and really buttered them up.
Happy New Year,Pete. Thanks for keeping all of us on top of the latest Yankee baseball news 24/7 It’s a lot of fun reading this blog.
We’re lucky Pita let us get away with it so long.

Have a great New Year Peter and Yankee fans of this board.
Full expectations of championship No. 27 coming our way in 2009. The new Stadium will love it.
Pete,
Thank you for all you do to keep us informed on our beloved Yankees. I especially enjoy your sarcasm and humor. Happy new year to you and yours!

Hey Pete,
Happy new year, i have been busy at the hospital having a new baby girl. I wish you a happy and healthy new year and much success to you and the Yankees. I also appreciate all you do with this blog and the support you have given to me as well with my blog. Keep up the good work and cant wait to see you at the new stadium. Thank you so much
EQUAL TIME DEPT.: CC Sabathia tied for the lead in shutouts in BOTH leagues in the same season.
Tom,
Hey, thanks!…I mean
Pete-
I rarely post, but always read- daily, at least. I’m just one more exiled die-hard (Michigan) who relies on you for my Yankee fix, and younever let me down. Thanks for your honesty, your dedication to the blog and for mixing in just enough fun, social commentary and random observations to keep things interesting.
A great year to you and yours.
God bless you Pete. Please receive my bests wishes for you and your people.
Thanks to everybody for their kind words. This really has been a rewarding experience.
Gary: Congrats on the baby. Raise her up to love baseball.
Thanks Pete. You’re the best.
Thanks for everything, Pete.
Best Blog on the web
Happy New Year to Pete and all the great fans here!
Pete, wishing you a Springsteen show at the new stadium with Diane Lane on your arm this year. Oh, and a championship to write about as well.
Thank you Peter for providing us Yankee fans and even some fans of other ballclubs the opportunities to rant, vent, and comment. While sometimes you bring views that many don’t agree with, it is all a part of what makes this such a great site. You help fuel debate, which makes it fun.
Wishing one and all a very happy and healthy New Year… with of course a Yankee championship to celebrate.
I echo the post of #9:
“Happy New Year Pete… thanks for all you do…
Is it Spring yet??!!”
To: Peter and all yankee board posters . . . .
A safe, happy, healthy New Year and a great championship year for the new Yankee Stadium to make it’s entrance in 2009.
Happy New Year to all my fellow posters and Pete who make this blog such a great place to go for Yankees news. Thanks again for all the hard work and hours you spend on this blog Pete.
Thanks so much, look for pics to come on my blog Pete. She will not have any problem being a huge Yankees and baseball fan, i have already been telling her about CC,AJ, Tex and company and of course about you.
j2- I did. It’s in the Digital Tier, 620 something for Albany… For Rochester its probably lumped together similarly with the same channels as here (SNY, YES, ESPN News, etc…) You should find it. Good luck.
Thanks for a great year Pete. Happy New Year to all…
Now Cashman needs to focus on locking up Andy’s 200 innings.
Happy New Year!
I hope 2009 brings this blog less puns and less trolls. (but not necessarily in that order!)
I enjoy the insight from many bright posters here, and even enjoy the laughs from reading some of those far flung rumors.
You mean we can’t get Pujols if we throw in Melky, Kennedy AND Igawa! But wait… listen to THIS possible lineup.
Same to you and yours, Pete. Thanks for your blog (and I like the puns, by the way!). The people who read and post on this blog are always insightful and constantly entertaining…we owe it all to you for bringing this group together.
Before we write-off the 2008 season entirely, there were several stories that should warm the heart of any baseball fan, including Yankees fans. Including:
1. Mo
2. Moose
Happy New Year everyone!
Kevin
Pete: Thanks so much for this awesome blog – what would Yankee and baseball fans do without it? You are so The Man!! Wishing you and your loved ones everything good in 2009, and all the best to the Yankees Lohud Blog community. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and LET’S GO YANKS!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!
Thanks to Pete for hosting and posting; he’s the Sudden Sam Malone of our virtual Cheers where we have our own regulars, every bit as unique and entertaining as Norm, Cliff, Carla, Woody, Rebecca, Frasier and Coach. Here’s wishing a healthy and prosperous New Year to one and all.
And I’d like to add a special New Year wish for health and recovery to Todd Drew, formerly of Yankees for Justice and now Bronx Banter. Feel better, Todd. Hope you are up and about soon.
Happy New Year Pete and All
May the best day of your past be the worst day of your future. Cheers!

http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.....p;c_id=nyy
You do a great job Pete.
From the Santana sweepstakes, The ARod soap opera, through the ups and downs and further downs of the season to the ultimate free agent frenzy of CC, AJ and Tex I must have checked this site a thousand times.
I don’t expect you to be unbiased, or even share my viewpoint. But you consistantly hit the mark, and discuss what fans like me are all obsessing over. Keep it up and have a happy 09!
Happy New Year Everyone! Thanks Pete you are my HERO.
Thank you for this well-researched and well-crafted blog. It has brought great pleasure to a growing multitude of Yankee supporters of all stripes (pinstripes?)
I have enjoyed this so much, that it has inspired me to start blogging, too!
Here’s hoping that the Yankees, Pete and family, and all the denizens of the blog have a prosperous and peaceful New Year.
Cheers!
Happy New Years to Yankee fans everywhere! May you and your family’s 2009 be as bright as our team’s prospects for winning.

Happy New Year, Peter, and all Yankees fans!

Sorry about the Pats. At least you had the Farve/Jets trainwreck to ease the pain. Now sit back and watch the Giants take care of buisness.

I hope the new year brings all the good things that we hoped were going to happen last year.
A very happy and healthy New Year to you and yours Pete. Thanks for giving us Yankees fans the best, most informative and insightful (other than the infamous “You must be on crack to think that the Yankees will sign Texeira” stuff
) Yankees blog out there.
After the Texeira press conference, which I’m looking forward to seeing you cover, I hope you enjoy your time off before spring training starts in a few short weeks.
