With the WBC this year are any prospects are going to get extended playing time?

Also, I went to spring training once-1999. I was standing in a parking lot with my then 7 year old cousin. I wasn’t sure if I was even allowed to be there-it just looked “official”. Suddenly I here this voice from behind me scream HEY! I froze like a dear in headlights and turn around. It was Derek Jeter, He smiled shook our hands and said “I can’t let you leave without signing that bat for you”.

I guess it is hard to put regular season single game tickets up for sale when they have not even finished or come close to finishing the season ticket holders relocation programs lol.

Like I said the other day I will be happy to have that dealt with before opening day but at the pace they are moving it seems unlikely (I Know they will just very slow moving)

    from the last thread
I was watching hot stove yesterday and they were saying that we might be going after Orlando Hudson for center field. I just wanted to get everyones take on this. I for one think we should just go with our youngsters now that we signed a big bat. Maybe a Figgins if he came cheap but not a must. We have 7 guys in the lineup that have hit .300 at one time in their career. I dont think we need murderers row plus Cano to win. Thoughts?

who is the better center fielder, Swisher or Gardner? Is that good enough defensively? That may be 1 question to be answered by spring training.

  9. S.o.S. January 5th, 2009 at 1:53 pm

Swisher is known to be a better first baseman than an outfielder. I think he is better suited for a corner outfield possition than center.
The question should be do you prefer a better defensive outfielder in Melky over more threat on the bases in Gardner. IMO, I would give Melky another shot out there. He kept runners honest and is a better hitter than Gardner. I would use Gardner as a pinch runner late in games or a fill in for Melky when he needs rest.

  10. Old Ranger January 5th, 2009 at 2:24 pm

Melky and Gardner in CF should be worked out in ST. Melky has the better power and arm but, Brett is the better OF and covers more ground plus more disruptive assets going for him. Pitchers don’t enjoy pitching to a guy with good eye and speed, conversely the same goes for more power.
I like Brett over Melky but, if Melky can help the team win more, so be it. What ever wins games.
By the by, anyone here have thoughts on Baldelli? If he will be healthy enough to play…why not some incentive contract?

  11. Garym(Yanks and More) January 5th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

I went to spring training a couple of years ago. I went three years in a row but that was the first time I went only for the purpose of spring training. I went to Legends Field,Port St Lucie for the Mets. I saw the Yankees play Tampa in their stadium, Detroit in Joker Marchant Stadium and I saw the Astros in Kissimee, it was so much fun, nothing like sitting in the sun and not caring who wins or loses just enjoying the games. It is pretty hard to get autographs at Legends Field and a lot more protected then the other stadiums.

  12. S.o.S. January 5th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Gardner is more disruptive on the bases but you have to get on first. Melky is a better hitter than Gardner. He has hit over .300 in AAA and IMO is a better fielder. But if Gardner wins the center field possition in spring training. I would be fine with that.

I wouldnt mind having Baldelli here on an incentive laden deal. If he could play in half the games id be happy. Thats a big if though.

Could someone explain how the ticket purchase works. Is it just first person to put in the order gets first dibs?

  14. Lou January 5th, 2009 at 3:28 pm

What about tix for the Cubs exhibition series at Yankee Stadium?

  15. joeman January 5th, 2009 at 4:24 pm

Fort Lauderdale…Banana Boat(bar)(met a lot of Yankee players at that place…those were the good old days

“By the by, anyone here have thoughts on Baldelli? If he will be healthy enough to play…why not some incentive contract?”

I have some expertise in this disease. It won’t be cured. He will only be effective if he plays intermittently. It seems hard to justify a roster spot for that, but I suppose it could work if handled properly. I don’t think anyone knows the exact amount per time that he can play, so an incentive-laden contract might work to find out. From what I know, though, I don’t think I would do it.

I think its interesting to hear that authographs are hard to get down there… Its actually easier in tampa than at yankee stadium, which is near impossible. I have been going for years and I have gotten auto’s that range from jeter, arod, damon, posada, nettles, yogi, etc. but maybe thats because im a girl? hollar if your going though. i always love seeing fellow yankee fans!

  19. Christina January 6th, 2009 at 12:23 am

    autographs** ahh ignore my typos!!

  20. Grace January 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am

    For the past couple weeks,
    everytime I visit the yankees.com
or other teams’ official site in MLB.com
My antivirus software has detected a fishing virus (JS/Agent.1366)
said your computer is with virus but in fact that is fishing your data..
and it is an javascript type virus….

I think right now we should avoid to visit such sites…

In Tampa, the best luck I’ve had with getting decent seats is from StubHub. Ticketmaster sells out fast. I’ve heard that if you go to the stadium, you can have better luck; but I’ve never had that confirmed by anybody reliable.

As for autographs in Tampa, I’ve had luck on the practice field. Not much inside the stadium.

We’re actually not seeing the Yanks at home this year. Sad. I’ll be on the Yankees dugout in Dunedin on 3/30 though. I can’t wait.
