I’m thrilled to see Mark wearing a Yankee uniform…and a little bit jealous after seeing pictures of his wife. I hope that doesn’t make me a bad person.

  2. Mr Torre

we signed Angel Berroa to compete with Cody Ransom also today

  3. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Staying to write the story

From the last thread: Nick, it’s a hysterical post but it made me feel a little horrible about myself…

There’s something I want to say about Tex and his wife here, but I can’t say it without getting banned.

  4. d32123

I’m with you on both parts!

    Regarding Pettitte,

I don’t think the Mitchell Report stuff has anything to do with it except offer the Yankees a convenient excuse for their actions. Had Pettitte finished stronger, they would have wanted him back and negotiated with him, instead of take it or leave it, coming to terms somewhere in the middle or close to 16 mil. But since he fell apart at the end, and not wanting to cast off a popular longtime player, they have that stuff as a convenient excuse.

  6. trisha - CC and AJ and Sheets - OH MY!

    Who cares.

  7. Buddy Biancalana

    Rebecca-

No need to feel bad, if they notice that you are a frequent poster, obviously they frequent the blog just as much.

  8. Celerino Sanchez

OK let me rephrase it … had Pettitte not been caught and stayed on HGH, he would have finished stronger and signed a two-year deal two months ago.

  9. Ryan J from NC

Any place I can see the entire press conference online?

  10. Chris from NJ

Pettitte had a solid first half of the season, but to be honest his stuff was pretty bad most of the time, no velocity at all. I think he can give you league average innings, but not f0r #1 or #2 kind of money! Lets just give one of the kids a shot, even WS bound teams don’t need 15 wins out of their #5 starter.

  11. Ed - American League, prepared to be scared! CC, Aj, and MT!!

“we signed Angel Berroa to compete with Cody Ransom also today”

a former ROTY reject? I rather take Chris Burke than him.

  12. Buddy Biancalana

Nick, you also were mentioned on another Yankee blog, good press this time.

  13. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Staying to write the story

Buddy: It’s not a big deal–I was momentarily hypersensitive, but I’m cool now.

And hey, if I can wring publicity for my blog out of it, I’m all for it.

  14. trisha - CC and AJ and Sheets - OH MY!

    *my favorite Yankee moment*

Damn there are so many that rate right up at the top, including Jete’s shovel pass and the 2001 world series games at Yankee Stadium. But I believe that the moment that gave me the greatest delight of all was

*AARON BLEEPIN BOONE’S HOMER IN GAME 7 OF THE 2003 ALCS*

(Saw that on the top 10 homers of all time)

I still get chills thinking about it. Unbleepinbelievable.

  15. Nor'easter

Teix could be another O’Neil like pickup. Taking us to the next level.

  16. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Staying to write the story

Although I don’t think O’Neill got nearly that type of money…

  17. GreenBeret7

Berroa does nothing more than hold down the shortstop spot in Scranton to replace Corona. lex Cora is the logical choice as a utility infielder.

  18. S.o.S.

    GB7,
Thanks for the info on Rodriguez. Do you know how old hes around and will he help the big league team?

Whoever said that Teix’s wife resembles Reese Witherspoon, I agree.

  19. able 21

Best of luck to Mark Texiera.

Anyone have thoughts on what Sterling’s nickname will be for him?

  20. able 21

How about Texiera – The Bridge to Riviera ?

  21. Dr. Cox

“How about Texiera – The Bridge to Riviera ?”

    arg?

  22. Betsy

Great pics – Tex really looks happy to be in NY. The fact that his family was here to share this moment, that was the moment that really cemented to me that Tex truly wanted to be in NY. He’s close to his family, so location was important, but if you listened to everything he had to say today (interviews outside of the PC included), it was obvious that he truly appreciates the Yankees, their history and the Stadium. I loved his comment that he’s thrilled to be the first firstbaseman at the new YS….

Also, Tex looks great in pinstripes!

  23. trisha - CC and AJ and Sheets - OH MY!

Ken Burns history of baseball on right now.

  24. Nick in SF

“It is High…” has mentioned LoHud and its commenters several times before (more than I know, I forget to go over there most of the time) but I think it’s usually more with affection than with malice.

Rebecca, I’m sure you could artfully make your comment about Mr. and Mrs. Tex without getting banned if you applied yourself.

    Buddy: link?

    GB,

back to what we were saying last night about the Cardinals would trading for one of their OFers for a closer quality arm. I mentioned that Veras and Ramirez would do well in the NL. I was thinking perhaps trading them to the Cardinals for either Brendan Ryan (utilty role), or Joe Mather (OF, 1b &3B)? What you think?

    ————————————————————

If NYY dealt with St. Louis, I wouldn’t waste it on a spare outfielder. I’d go after Schumaker and Ryan for Veras and Chase Wright or JB Cox or Eric Duncan.

  26. Steve

Anyone else think he looks like a young Pettitte?

  27. Buddy Biancalana

    Nick-

Can’t remember, it was about 2 weeks back. They were making fun of the poster here who said A Rod should move to 1st. Then they gave praise to you & a bunch of others.

  28. rackem

I remember one of the shows on YES in 2002 or 2003 did a feature on John Rodriguez and named him as a possible successor to Bernie Williams.

    Yeah, he’s 31 years old…20 January.

  30. S.A.-Brian "The Ninja" Cashman: Showing free agents lots of love

Ya know, in the 4th picture..his wife does kinda look like a brunette Reese Witherspoon. I dunno.
Welcome to the family Mark. He looks great in pinstripes!

  31. Buddy Biancalana

GB7 may remember who said it.

  32. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Staying to write the story

    Nick: I know =D

Like I said, I’m totally cool now. Just had to do a double take.

    Basically my comment…uh…

    Well…uh, she’s kind of pettitte, and he’s…uh…not?

    Does that work?

  33. S.o.S.

I think Angel Borroa should hand his R.O.Y. award to Matsui when he gets here. Matsui in turn sketches it out and gives him the art work. Its only fair.

  34. yankeefan91 (sign manny asap hes getting cheaper lol)

yanks sign angel berroa do ya guys blieve he neat matsui for rookie of the year

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/s.....eague-deal

  35. S.A.-Brian "The Ninja" Cashman: Showing free agents lots of love

I wonder if we will get some new sketches from Matsui before the season starts. Maybe his wife got a haircut and he wants to show her off?

  36. Nick in SF

    Spinner?

  37. Eddie in Yonkers

Mark Teixeira seems like a switch hitting Tino only he’ll be a Yankee longer. What’s not to like about Tino’s Yankee career ?

  38. Aaron(the better Aaron)

I like the moves the Yanks made today, adding some depth

  39. Ed Wood

    Teixiera’s wife could be Reese Witherspoon’s sister…

  40. kd

Ok, I know i might get blasted for this, but one things that’s been missing from the yankees in the past few years is the pitchers protecting the batters. recently, few pitchers have retaliated when batters have been hit. pedro sending soriano and jeter to the hospital for had xrays comes to mind. i know burnett has a bit of a mean streak in him (or bad control). think cc will step up at hit matsuzaka after he hits jeter for the 10th time?

  41. Nick in SF

Buddy: thanks, if you remember please let me know. I hardly ever look at the plethora of other blogs Pete links to. But good press is good press.

  42. darkmoonfire

The first picture leads me to a question…

Does Hal wear a wig? It looks like it in that pic.

GB7 may remember who said it.

    ————————————————————

Not sure who said it. I remember that the only person he didn’t move was Posada to 2nd base, though he’d be a natural. Jeter in 2nd, Swisher in center, Cano to third, Damon in left.

  44. Nick in SF

kd: yes, I see a lot of Youk’s poopy-diaper face in the future when AJ, CC, and Joba are on the mound. How ’bout that Emerald Bowl! All with no quarterback!

  45. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Staying to write the story

Buddy and/or Nick, if you remember who said it, I’d love to see it, too.

  46. S.o.S.

“but one things that’s been missing from the yankees in the past few years is the pitchers protecting the batters.”

Youk would respectfully dissagree with you.

  47. Justin

Does tex come off fat to any one else but me I kno he is a 1st basemen …but he is a lil chuncky lol

On a serious note I hope people don’t start to argue about where he hits in the line upp now ..please who care we got tex yayyy

Ps …to MR.HGH GO TO HELL OKK ….UR A BUMB …HE THINKS HE IS WORTH MORE THAN DEREK LOWE WHAT’S WRONG WIT HIMM…HIS EXCUSE WILL BE GOD TOLD HIM TO DO IT LOL……

  48. kd

i was thinking about youk when i posted. man that guy irritates me.

the emeral bowl was awesome. just think how good we’d be if we even had a league average quarterback? were you there? i was in the second deck, 30 yard line

  49. Tom

    “Well…uh, she’s kind of pettitte, and he’s…uh…not?

    Does that work?”

Hey, there is nothing wrong with that. I’m 6ft 170 and my girlfriend is 5′1 100 pounds.

  50. S.o.S.

    Nick,
Wasnt biting of off you. Didnt see your post. Great minds think alike.

  51. trisha - CC and AJ and Sheets - OH MY!

Betsy I sure hope you’re watching this. It’s absolutely beautiful.

  52. Nick in SF

Rebecca: I never saw this other blog comment in the first place, so I’m not going to remember. If you mean the comment on here, I don’t think I’m going to remember that either.

  53. Nick in SF

    S.o.S.: no prob

kd: I was watching in tv in North Carolina. Wish I could have been there, but my ticket went to good use.

  54. S.o.S.

“Does tex come off fat to any one else but me I kno he is a 1st basemen …but he is a lil chuncky lol”

Its the pinstripes. It plays tricks on you. C.C. looks skinny while Tex looks chunky.

  55. Brad Pitt's better-looking brother

Yeah. Tex’s wife does resemble Reese Witherspoon. I was going for that look when I married my ex but she ended up more like Tim Witherspoon.

  56. Aaron(the better Aaron)

Did anyone else find it extremely funny when the mic went on Cash?? haha I was rolling

  57. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Staying to write the story

Tom: Hey, I didn’t say it was a bad thing!

I’m fairly pettitte myself (5′3) and my boyfriend is nearly a foot taller than I am!

  58. GreenBeret7

In case anybody missed the news from Ken Burns, he’s now working on the 10th inning, covering 1992 thru the present. He’s hoping to have it finished this year.

  59. Betsy

Trish, I watched part 1 on Sunday – I fell in love with it. The fact that it rhapsodizes on baseball is ok with me because I’m a baseball romantic – I think the game is perfect.

I absolutely love old-time baseball history, so the first few eppys will be of particular interest to me. I just received my books on Christy Mathewson, so I look forward to reading them, too.

It’s all circular, isn’t it? All these issues we have today between owners and players – baseball had these problems as early as the late 19th century. Teams and fans feeling hopeless in the face of league domination by one or two teams(in this case, Baltimore and Boston)……again, an early problem faced by baseball. I found out more about the reserve clause and it was detestable………when you bemoan players switching teams, think how much worse it was when the owners basically controlled these players careers.

I’m probably going to watch Second Inning tomorrow (just bought the DVD)……..but I want to catch the new Burns interviews coming up

  60. trisha - CC and AJ and Sheets - OH MY!

I can’t even believe people are wasting time talking about Tex and his wife and their physicality.

    Oh wait, yes I can.

If you’re REALLY bored, turn on Ken Burns…

  61. trisha - CC and AJ and Sheets - OH MY!

“Trish, I watched part 1 on Sunday – I fell in love with it. The fact that it rhapsodizes on baseball is ok with me because I’m a baseball romantic – I think the game is perfect.”

Oh Betsy I think it’s absolutely beautiful. I love the Stephen Collins Foster background and the old photos. God I’m in love with this game!

I’m hoping that what I’m watching now is what was on Sunday. I didn’t know there were different iterations of this show!

  62. Tommy

Tex looked really comfortable today. Couldn’t have been a better debut dealing with the media.

  63. Drive 4-5

Man, that genuine smile on Tex’s face is driving Boston fans crazy. You should read some of the e-mails I’ve been getting. The fact that he didn’t want to go to Boston and is esctatic to be in New York is more than they can handle. This is like Christmas all over again lol.

  64. GreenBeret7

I have copies of the first known photographed baseball game in progress. They were taken in 1862 at Ft. Pulaski, in Savannah Harbor, Georgia. The orginals are here in Savannah and copies are in Cooperstown.

  65. Drive 4-5

    GB7,

Heck, that game was played 71 years after it was first played in Pittsfield,MA. You & I were just pups at the time.

Teixeira said “he hasn’t tapped his potential yet”

This guy has MVP written all over him and he will make Arod more complete player.

  67. trisha - CC and AJ and Sheets - OH MY!

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/01.....148960.htm

    Oh well.

  68. Tommy

Pettitte is going to regret not taking the Yankees offer. Come on now, $10MM is quite a bit of money.

  69. RSM

In the 5th photo, is that Tex signing an autograph for Cal Rpkin, Jr.?
    ;)

  70. rick

Great pics of Tex and his family. This kid is really good for the Yankees. I am excited about him in NY.

  71. Joey's Poodle

Not to reveal my obsession with baseball or anything, but you can get Ken Burns’ 10-disc baseball series on Netflix. Just search Ken Burns, when it comes up hit All Ken Burns — you’ll find Baseball off to the side, since it’s not one of his most popular items. Hit Add and all ten will line up at the end of your queue, and you can move them into position as you wish — I prefer to make the fun last by fitting other selections in between the baseball discs on mine — off-season is long, and we fans have to feed our need somehow… ;-)
