I like the notion of JJ Hardy as a replacement for Jeter once his contract is up. He's undervalued (somewhat) because he's playing in Milwaukee and while Jeter's numbers are in decline, Hardy's are on the rise.

GB,

I got the joke, I just didn't respond to it and I would rather talk about baseball than the size of my posts. Thanks for the vote of confidence by the way as it means so much coming from you.

I hope the extra couple of million was worth pettitte's reputation because he is losing a lot of respect for what amounts to marginal sums of money for him as he has already made over 100 mil. it isnt that he wants more money as that would be understandable for a fan to comprehend and digest. I think what is ticking people off is the fact that he said it definitely wouldnt be about the money only a couple of months ago and now, it is so obviously about the money and nothing else that it makes him look greedy and dishonest. If he just said he would come back if the yanks showed him some "respect" or whatever the players say to justify their greediness, i dont think hardly any one would take an issue with it as every player seems to do this no matter how good of a person they are. The dishonesty is what hurts his reputation and I doubt the money will compensate for the mess that pettitte has created around him but he has no one to blame for his situation but himself.

According to Scot Gregor of the Arlington Daily Herald, the Marlins have shown interest in free agent shortstop Orlando Cabrera.

Cabrera definitely wouldn't bump Hanley Ramirez from his spot, but the long shot acquisition could result in Dan Uggla sliding to third. Cabrera would obviously then man second base.

the Marlins are crazy!!! they are ready to invest big time? hmm... :?

How does a horrible braves signing mean pettitte deserves more money? Just because one team makes a nonsensical mistake doesnt mean every team should have to suffer the consequences. Pettitte doesnt deserve a dime more because lowe got a ridiculous contract for many reasons. Mainly because Lowe is going to pitch better than pettitte will primarily because he is in the NL east. Also, Lowe doesnt deserve that kind of money no matter what the actual deal was and the only reason lowe got that contract was because he had a market for his services. Pettitte still has no market and no offer bigger than the yanks 10 mil. If he did, we would most certainly know about it. Also, lowe is coming off a very solid season and pettitte is coming off a very poor season in which he was injured. The only reason pettitte deserves to have his offer raised by the yanks is if the mets jump in with a 12 million dollar offer. Then, pettitte will have a market and the yanks will be forced to up their offer if they want him back. Without an offer, it is still the yanks or retirement for pettitte so i really think he is trying to wait it out for all the bigger names to come off the board. At this point though, pettitte is one of the top of the class so this saga should be played at shortly.

Dave, you missed that entire joke. Hard to believe you're studying to be a doctor. You'd better switch to veterinarian. Less chance of malpractice suits. Better to bury a dead dog than a person.

You never threw up in your mouth before? It usually isnt all that much but it is disgusting. Exactly like the yanks signing garcia would be. Put me in the garland over garcia fan boat. I have made my list - 1. sign pettitte for 13 mil or less, 2. trade nady and prospects for a 200 inning reasonably quality pitcher. 3. sign sheets for one year and less than 10 mil, 4. sign garland for less than 5 mil for one year. The yanks have enough money and enough commonsense to do nothing below that list which includes perez, garcia, looper, wolf, trading nady alone for a bad pitcher and converting coke to a starter role in order to make sure the spot is filled. We spent over 400 mil in three players - cant we invest less than 15 mil for a decent fourth starter to make sure the rotation doesnt collapse with a major injury? Cash always makes the big moves the right way but it is time to make the small move the right way too.
