That’s it for now from the Stadium. The move continues. Check the blog later for photos from an actual professional photographer.

I snapped this photo on River Ave. Wonder how much this sign will sell for? The Yankees still haven’t selling items yet.

that should go to bald vinny, but i doubt he gives a damn about something like that after being slapped with a three digit (section) insult in the new stadium.

Oh the dreaded bleacher entrance. Following that sign was like sailing on the Titanic…in steerage class.

Last time I was there was Game 1 2004 ALCS. It was the best of times…It was the worst of times.

I’d pay $5000 for it and i’m not (remotely) rich. So that means it’ll probably go for $50k!

It’s a sad & exciting day all at the same time. The new place will have so many upgrades, but that new upper deck is virtually in Washington Heights. Progress, right?

This may have already been answered, but did we ever find out what Jeter took from the stadium. Didn’t he say it was bigger then a bread box? Did he end up taking it? Just wondering, and if I missed this info I am sorry.

    Thanks

I was looking at the pictures a second time and realized – where’s the bubble wrap around those trophies?????

lol a smart person would go steal it

  8. jennifer January 23rd, 2009 at 1:10 pm

And that ‘smart person’ would end up in jail.

Francesca and the rest of the WFAN crew are sounding the drumbeat for Manny – I guess they’re hoping the Piazza situation repeats itself. It certainly makes for boring radio, lol

  10. SteveB January 23rd, 2009 at 1:27 pm

I’m listening to WFAN too. They think they can just turn back the clock to 1998. It ain’t happenin’.

Manny is a fabulous hitter, but he’s made his bed over the years & now has to lie in it. If he was dependable, he’d have a multi-year deal all done by now. Funny thing is, he probably cares the least of everyone.

Can someone with an empirical mindset please help me begin to fathom why so many on this blog seem so sure that Melky or Brett will be starting in Center over Damon?

We have four mediocre outfielders. All about average. Damon, Swisher, Nady, and then Matsui (occaisonal LF at best). The production of each is no better than league average if we have reasonable expectations.

So why, then, would be prefer to place two dismal offensive players in the place of Damon in center? If Melky is batting .240 or .250 with an under .300 OBP, how can someone justify losing some of the Damon or Swisher offense just to reduce the balls dropped or misplayed?

Is there a statistical analysis out there that definitively says Melky or Brett give the team more wins or is it just that the Yanks are stubborn and want to push either one into center? Ive always been a big Melky supporter and I think he can turn things around, but those chances are slim.

    If Damon goes: 15 HR / 75RBI / .290 BA / .365 OBP
Can you justify using Melky or Brett when the possible outcomes look like this:

    6HR / 45 RBI / .240-.260 BA / .290-.310 OBP
    10 HR / 55 RBI / .260 BA / .310-.325 OBP

and at the VERY BEST if Melky is phenomenal, this may happen:
    12 HR / 70 RBI / .270 BA / .340 OBP

The chances of Melky playing that well are near zero. Where does the line get drawn where they are more valuable than the production we’d miss from Nady, Matsui, Damon, and Swisher?

Darn it, Bronx Jeers, I was sure I would click on that link and see this:

But his birthday is less than a month away.

Mark Twain is looking good these days.

  15. Giuseppe Franco January 23rd, 2009 at 1:58 pm

Cashman and Girardi have said on a number of occasions that they are going to avoid using Damon and Swisher in CF.

It’s going to be Melky or Gardner and it appears Gardner may have an edge right now because Girardi loves him and seems to have grown tired of Melky.

  16. Ham Fighters January 23rd, 2009 at 1:59 pm

damon is a liability in CF. also when he plays there he’s too gassed to give u much on offense.

  17. Sean Serritella January 23rd, 2009 at 2:02 pm

I’d like to use that sign on ebay.

  18. you gotta have faith (pettite where art thou?) January 23rd, 2009 at 2:14 pm

    ALB3,

because damon is no longer a CF. thats it, not complicated, i dont know about you but i’d rather see melky/gardner in CF over damon anyday. now i still want damon in the lineup just not in CF.

  19. WangFan88 January 23rd, 2009 at 4:29 pm

ALB3, you’re absolutely correct in your analysis. I’ve been arguing similar arguments for a while but no one seems to care to listen. I don’t understand why everyone has decided that Damon is incapable of playing center field. The crazy thing is, I don’t even think Melky saves that many runs over him.

  20. NO HYPE January 23rd, 2009 at 4:43 pm

    Jen,

in the Bronx thats probably the last thing they would care about is some hooligan stealing a sign
