Hate to break it to ya, but not even Joey Four Rings can go 7 years without winning the WS in NY. Yes, even Joey Four Rings has to be held accountable at some point. Face it, his terrible decision making was a major factor in why the team did NOT win in 2003, 2004, and 2006.

i disagree with the premise/tone of this article. last i checked the dodgers made the playoffs for the first time in years and torre successfully managed manny the monster fresh out of terrorizing boston.

The problem is that Torre never realized that Bernie had no business being out in CF. Despite Bernie stumbling all over the field and having a terribly arm, Torre kept running him out there everyday at the expense of the team. Nothing would’ve changed if the Yankees signed Bernie with the intention of being a “bench player.”

As for Bernie he sounds like a little boy crying over spilled milk. Pete said it best that it’d be great to have Bernie come out for Old Timers Day. Maybe it’ll still happen once Bernie stops acting like a baby. Face it, he was washed up. The Yankees could not improve their team by hanging onto him when he clearly couldn’t produce at a high level anymore. That’s the way baseball is.

Who knows, maybe Torre did. What’s worse calling him Afraud or batting in 8TH in a elimination game???? He should’ve been fired on the spot for that one alone??? You keep missing the point. Torre put his name on this book. That makes him responsible for everything that comes out of it. After having mastered the NY media for so long are you really that naive to think that he didn’t expect this to happen?

1. WTF didn’t you rearrange the rotation after the rainout in the 2004 ALCS so that Brown wouldn’t start 2 games in the series?

2. in game 7 2004, why didn’t you bring in El Duque or Moose in long relief?

3. If you felt compelled to bring in Vasquez, why not a batter earlier, instead of to Damon w/the bases loaded? especially given that Damon had already had a 2-HR game off Vasquez that year, and that Vasquez had pitched like crap for months.

4. If you were unhappy w/Giambi’s D – and who wouldn’t be! – why didn’t you force the issue and turn him into a DH, instead of indulging Giambi in his mind game about hitting better when he was butchering in the field?

5. why did you think bringing in Jeff Weaver instead of Mariano in game 4 gave the Yankees the better chance to win the 2003 World Series?
