I have to agree with Arod when he says (according to a friend) that Torre batting him eighth in the ALDS was hurtful and revealed his true feelings about him.

David Ortiz batted .186 in 11 postseason games last year. Howard has a lifetime .220 BA in 14 postseason games, including a .133 BA in last year’s NLDS. When did their managers ever embarrass them by moving them to the eighth hole?

Are you sure that is a viable theoretical option though? Who is to say that he would have even accepted such a option as being kicked upstairs, and wouldn’t have taken it as a kick in the teeth instead?

What team got the better incentive laden deal for players?

a.boston for Penny 5 mil +
b.boston for Smoltz 5 mil +
c.Yankees for Pettitte 5.5 +

I would have to go with C, even if Pettitte isnt happy, he will be the best bang for the buck. Thoughts?

Entering his 2nd year, Joe Girardi would have had a better comfort level based on what his general manager has provided for a more balanced and flexible roster plus the familiarity of the returning players.
St. Joe’s book was like topping off a gas tank. Whatever shadow Girardi had of Torre hovering over him has gone. It’s his team now.

I am sure AROD is amazingly egotistical, but I believe Torre should have kept all clubhouse information quiet. He was the lucky recipient of the Yankee managerial chance. Yes, he did well in people handling for the most part with his Papa Joe persona. My papa wouldn’t have talked about family memebers in public and neither should someone who is truly as affable and caring as he posed. I would say Joe’s ego is bent out of shape and he is repaying the Yankees and AROD by telling it as he claims to have seen it.

Interesting – Mike has Kim Jones on the air, and is asking about the book. Kim – “Nothing in professional sports surprises me.”

They both agree that Torre has been hypocritical. Joe is getting torched in the press. Wonder how thick his skin really is.
