Coming up tomorrow … (and a YES Network idea)

Sam Borden

Good first day, everyone. Five solid posts today – no one can say I’m a slow starter (though, historically, Mark Teixeira is. Just sayin’).

Tomorrow will be a lot of Joe Torre. Quick review:

12:30 p.m.: Torre will be signing books at the Barnes and Noble at 555 5th Ave.
2 p.m. (or thereabouts): A Torre interview will be heard on 1050 ESPN Radio’s Michael Kay show, though I don’t believe Michael Kay will be doing the interviewing. Info is sketchy, but it sounds like someone from ESPN’s home office in Bristol will interview Torre and then it will be broadcast during Kay’s show. We’ll see.
4 p.m.: Interview with WFAN’s Mike Francesa.
7 p.m.: Signing at the Yogi Berra Museum in New Jersey

Torre will also be on NPR’s “All Things Considered” show, which airs in New York from 4-6:30 p.m. I’ll be in the city tomorrow to see how he is received at the Manhattan signing and will update throughout the day. Anyone who sees/hears him doing the other appearances should feel free to pitch in with anything interesting.

Now, to leave you on a lighter note: What do you think would happen to the board operator at YES if this happened during a rain delay?

Great job today. Enjoy the pinch-hitter post and see you tomorrow.

    Thanks, Sam.

Great job. You’re much warmer and fuzzier than the other guy. ;)

Pace was good and you even threw in some obvious red herrings like Edwar and the state of the bullpen to get us all frothed up.

Play it again, Sam. ^collective groan…

  2. pat

Gammons could be the last guy I want to hear interview Joe.

  3. DT

    Great first day Sam.

If Pete runs off and joins the circus, or more likely hooks up with the Springsteen tour as a roadie – do you think you could stay on longer?

ps: I’m already claiming I was in Tuscon yesterday. Hey, it’s 10 free Comcast dollars.

  4. Khoa

Great stuff Sam. Loving the quantity (and quality) of the info. Keep it up!

  5. Khoa

Looking forward to NPR on the commute home tomorrow.

    pat,

I would pay to hear Olney do it. He seems taken aback by what’s transpired.

    Is it just me?

    m-
it was just Sam’s first day. It’s the honeymoon period.
By the end of the week we might be nitwits or sheep. :-)

And I thought that having to go through the “Heidi Game” was ugly.

Olney would make sense. He has the Yankee and journalism background to ask the questions I’d like to hear the answers to.

Nahhhh….I just can’t type that. I’ll get banned for sure.

    DT,

As long as it’s not both! We’ll see if Sam can hold his tongue when the ones who rile up Pete come around.

jerome on the train, you should read this one. It might calm your nerves a bit. Tomorrow will be a rough day for you on the blog. I suggest you stay away (even though I haven’t bashed Torre personally, my back is feeling a little stiff).

Well Boston’s at it again….signing all of the top talent and trying to buy another title. Something needs to be done about this.

***MLBTR has learned tonight that the Red Sox have signed outfielder Brad Wilkerson to a minor league deal with roster and playing time incentives. Wilkerson, 31, hit .220/.308/.326 in 309 plate appearances for the Mariners and Blue Jays in 2008. The Ms signed Wilkerson last year for $3MM but designated him for assignment before May***

Great job Sam, I can’t wait to hear what the people are saying at the book signing tomorrow, i hope to hear the interview on the Kay show and also the Francessa show and will post something about it, either here or on my blog Yanks and More.

I heard A-Rod and Cashman really like to shop a lot at the Barnes and Noble on 5th Ave. I wonder if they’ll be dropping by for a quick hi. :)

Best single day on this blog in a while. Gave RAB some rest for a change.

  21. MC

    Nice work same!

This blog hasn’t been this intriguing for a while now!

    Keep up the good work!

  22. Patrick Bateman

I would have paid money to hear Michael Kay interview Torre.

Francesa will throw slow pitch softballs to Torre during his interview.

  23. yanksince57-was this 1959 or is it 1965?

torre girardi sheets pettite ramirez rodriguez cashman cano cabrera gardner – discuss lol

  24. jennifer

Good catch Sam. I thought it is pretty strange that he would go on Kay’s show considering what they think of each other. I thought Kay totally sold out and agreed to a list of questions.

Once when I had YES on, the crawl with scores and such popped up with something about Sarah (or another female) name and her being drunk.

  26. Sonic

Does anyone else find it ironic that the Comcast spokesperson was named Hornbuckle and the clip was a woman unbuckling some dudes pants to get to his horn?

  27. Maureen

I liked Joe Torre and didn’t want him to leave the Yankees..The book? My problem with this book is: First, It should have never been written while he was still in baseball..Second, what is said in the clubhouse, should remain in the clubhouse, as Joe Torre himself has stated, but it seems that only applies to others rather than Joe Torre.

I’ve criticized Joe for writing,as above stated and think he’s a “snitch”…I would say that to his face, were I at a book signing…
