By what I've read about Selena Roberts, she sounds like just another leftist wingnut, calling Obama a rock star in Europe or attacking the Duke students for what turned out to be a non-story.

it's becoming quite obvious that half (at least) of mlb has juiced. take a look at the arms (and discovered power) of our catcher.
if the whole league is doing it, who wouldn't at least consider it, for survival. if everyone is cheating, and the guys who don't may get left behind, what do u really think will happen? let's see... a 10 million $ contract, or maybe coaching somewhere.
i am not condoning cheating, but let's be real.

Sully:

I always wondered about Nomar, and let me say as a Yankee fan that I always liked him and thought it was a pity how his career kind of fell apart. I did wonder also about the likeable (when he's not killing Yankee pitching) Big Papi's dramatic improvement once he left Minnesota. As to Varitek and Nixon, Tom Verducci commented in SI on 5/2/2006 that "Scouts have remarked that 34-year-old catcher Jason Varitek and injury-prone Trot Nixon (three home runs between them) appear noticeably trimmer with less pop in their bats."

It's pretty obvious that PEDs have been all over baseball and sports in general for at least a couple of decades, and we're kidding ourselves if we think otherwise. There must be a lot of very uneasy ballplayers throughout baseball these days, since there's no end in sight to these revelations. One wonders if there might not come a time when Commissioner Bud will regret not having simply stepped up to acknowledge the magnitude of the problem, taken responsibility for what happened on his watch, and instituted testing going forward rather than digging around in the past via the conflict-of-interest-challenged Mitchell report.

Also, the hue and cry about PEDs in MLB, in contrast to the indifference/virtual acceptance of the same and worse in the NFL only increases exponentially my cynicism about the way the public discourse is framed in the mainstream media. Obviously the level of outrage is based on something other than a consistent ethical standard. And as to the no-more- heroes/what-about-the-children angle: let's get real. It's disappointing when scandals engulf our favorite sports and their stars, but if the morals and conduct of athletes ultimately have anything more than a minor effect on our peace of mind and worldview, it's probably time to rethink the place of sports in our lives. And yes, this is while commenting on a Yankees blog at 10:00 o'clock on a Saturday night lol.

Lastly, re 2016: I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but as far as I'm concerned, comments from our honest and insightful Red Sox fan board members (ray, Brian, et al.) are always welcome no matter what the topic or circumstances. It's part of what makes this blog so totally awesome. Peace out...

"Selena Roberts is an excellent reporter, someone who has always done thorough work and is incredibly respected in the journalism business."

Disgusting.

Sam, I previously respected your work. But for you to use such strong and blatantly untrue words reeks of crony-ism at its most heinous.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

I propose a new nickname...Ster-Rod. I am not shocked, I am pissed off. Pissed on, rather. I've spent precious minutes of my life defending this guy because I thought he was the real deal. I never liked the guy, but he stood for something. His pompous rep made mince meat out of Bonds' and Clemens'. This guy was going to break all the record... the right way. Now he's just like them? Please Albert... don't let it be true.

ever who obtained this information should be ashamed of themselves. this information was private for 6 years now probably for a reason. if a rod's name has been released then i want to see the 106 other guys who tested positive also. a rod was not the only one on the list

gb7: "That’s one reason you almost never see somebody from the military in weight lifting or body building contest."

Not true. Being an ex-military weightlifting body builder myself, those base gyms were packed with weightlifting body builders who were military.

Another freakin' Arod drama - yep, can't say how much I wish his opt-out would have actually occurred.

Sam, it undermines your credibility when you defend Selena Roberts. Her reprehensible conduct during the Duke lacrosse travesty makes her subsequent reporting at worst unreliable and at best biased and agenda-driven.

A little reminder...three excerpts from Roberts's vicious attack on three completely innocent people:

“The season is over, but the paradox lives on in Duke’s lacrosse team, a group of privileged players of fine pedigree entangled in a night that threatens to belie their social standing as human beings.”

“Whatever the root, there is a common thread: a desire for teammates to exploit the vulnerable without heeding a conscience.”

“Does President Brodhead dare to confront the culture behind the lacrosse team’s code of silence or would he fear being ridiculed as a snitch?”

The fact that she still has a job taints the entire profession.

ya know as much as i, and probably most have you, have berated "a-roid" over the last 5 years, we could always back up his 0-4 with 2 GIDP's by at least knowing (or thinking) that it was clean. And while obviously just because he failed the test in 03 doesnt mean at all he juiced up since, even at all with the yanks, it without a doubt adds questionability to his career. before this morning, this biggest obstacle for alex to overcome was his lack of postseason production. now i think its safe to say its this.

and i was really looking foward to the upcomming season. thanks, buddy.

For those who are stating his accomplishments since 2003, listen to the rest of the story. He has been tipped off to subsequent testing by Orza since so I think that pretty much implies he's still using. If he was clean, why would he still require being tipped? And for those implying Jeter and/or Mo are on that list, my only question is how do you type you heads up your behinds?
