Will we be able to watch it later?

  2. Chris February 10th, 2009 at 4:34 pm

Nice I got 4 questions answered! Pete can you put a poll question up for first yankee to hit a HR in the new stadium? If only Vegas had some prop bets we could really get some action on this.

  3. saucY February 10th, 2009 at 4:35 pm

Chris, would the exhibition games count?

  4. Chris February 10th, 2009 at 4:38 pm

In the record books the spring training games don’t count so I would suggest a poll for first regular season HR. And a bonus question, what pitcher will give it up? My hopes- Jeter off American Idle Pavano haha.

A good phone interview on Francessa with Al Lieter. He explained the “Orza leaked” thing. He said that EVERYBODY tested during Spring Training of ’04 and told them that some of them would be tested again in September.

    SJ,
“I have a question for you and the board in general. If the stars and moon align and the team is healthy for most of the year (injuries do happen), can you rate this team to be stronger than the 2000 team? 1996? 1998?”

Stronger than 1996 team- that was a team of fate and late comebacks, IMO.

Stronger than 2000 team in all positions except CF and RF, with Bernie and Paul. 2009 better pitching staff also.

1998 team was a very good team with Jeter and Brosius O’Neill, and Tino having excellent years along with Strawberry. Pitching, both starters and relievers put up good numbers. 1998 vs 2009 would be a good match[if no cloud hanging over A-Rod].

However my favorite team, at least powerwise were the 1961 Yankees with Mantle, Maris, Howard, Blanchard,Skowron, Yogi, all of whom had > 20 homers. The pitching staff wasn’t too shabby either.

Great job on ESPN First Take! Congratulations! Keep up the Great work!

  8. Wave Your Hat February 10th, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Let’s play the season before we start comparing teams to the 1998 Yanks.

  9. GreenBeret7 February 10th, 2009 at 4:41 pm

Conressman Townes has just released a statement that congress will not be calling anybody to DC to testify. He said congress has more important things to worry about with unemploymemt, banking and other issues.

  10. SJ44 February 10th, 2009 at 4:45 pm

I can’t compare this team to any team yet. They haven’t played a game.

On paper, it’s the best starting staff in 6-7 years. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean much.

Let’s see how they gel this spring and start the season.

Then, we can get a better idea of what this team is about.

“Stronger than 2000 team in all positions except CF and RF, with Bernie and Paul. 2009 better pitching staff also.”

The Yankees were better at CF, RF, SS, and C in 2000 than they will be in 2009. The 09 Yankees are clearly better at 1st, 3rd, LF, and DH. Cano will probably do better than Knoblauch did that year. It’s pretty even.

  12. S.o.S. February 10th, 2009 at 4:48 pm

    Chris,
That question is a no brainer. Everyone is going to have the same answer.
Molina will hit the first homer. He had the last one in the old and will open up the new Stadium with the first. Is there any doubt? Next question.

Who will have the first shut out in the new stadium?

    GB7-

“Conressman Townes has just released a statement that congress will not be calling anybody to DC to testify. He said congress has more important things to worry about with unemploymemt, banking and other issues.”

Thank goodness they won’t be wasting more taxpayers money. Try this on for size-Bud Selig just got a raise of 3M to 17M. Nice to know that under his watch[former owner and all] that fans were filling stadiums to see the long ball.

Also enjoyed yeasterday how the players union came out in legalize to try and justify why they couldn’t destroy the records.

  14. GreenBeret7 February 10th, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Another possible utility guy has just been designated for assignment. Baltimore just DFA’d Scott Moore, who has played both corner outfield and infield spots as well as a little 2nd/SS. Should at least be worth a look.

  15. Uncle Ellsworth February 10th, 2009 at 4:50 pm

    Jeter hits the first.

  16. SJ44 February 10th, 2009 at 4:52 pm

Smartest thing Congress has done in awhile. The last thing we need are more steroid hearings.

  17. Brandon (CC/AJ/Marky Mark..4 DAYS& PEDS !) Now batting #6 Alex Rodriguez February 10th, 2009 at 4:52 pm

Some idiot is talking about he agrees w/ Bill Maddon about cutting Alex…

Mother…….. $270 MIL how the hell do you to cut that, to sign w/ another team for the minimum and hit 50 HR/140 RBI somewhere else…some people deserve to get slapped.

  18. pat February 10th, 2009 at 4:54 pm

“A-Rod is always evaluated on what he hasn’t done, not on what he has done, which makes him different than just about every other player in the history of baseball.”

  19. S.o.S. February 10th, 2009 at 4:58 pm

Isnt Orlando Cabrera still out there? What are the chances of him not being guaranteed a starting spot and he accepts a utility role? He got a great glove and a decent bat. Again, im under the assumption that he is a free agent and no one the white sox or any other team has not signed him as of yet.

  20. S.o.S. February 10th, 2009 at 5:00 pm

    Brandon,
Whos batting 3,4,5 in front of Alex?

  21. saucY February 10th, 2009 at 5:08 pm

well, if the exhibition game counts, i’ll say alfonso soriano

  22. S.o.S. February 10th, 2009 at 5:19 pm

    Brandon,
Scratch that. I assume your saying he will wear Torre’s #6.
