The many faces of Alex Rodriguez

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Feb 10, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

If you watched A-Rod on ESPN last night, he made a lot of faces. Our pals at the Fack Youk blog did some screen grabs that are pretty funny. Meanwhile, maybe it was the TV in the hotel. But was he a weird shade of orange?

(Disclaimer: This post is intended to be amusing and should in no way be construed as an attack on Alex Rodriguez. We at the LoHud Yankee Blog wish Alex well in his endeavors. Plus those guys sent us a link.)

    dont hate on arod,
i’m pretty sure that orange glow means some sort of divine providence

  3. Thomas A. Anderson February 10th, 2009 at 2:37 pm

It’s ok Pete. Not all of us lose our minds over everything Arod related.

And while he did have a tan, spray on or otherwise, his complexion did not look as oompa loompa-ish during the interview as it did in photos.

  4. Brandon (CC/AJ/Marky Mark..4 DAYS& PEDS !) Now batting #6 Alex Rodriguez February 10th, 2009 at 2:38 pm

    LMAO

  5. Lorenzo February 10th, 2009 at 2:38 pm

ARod def looked like an offspring of an umpa-lumpa

  6. G. Love February 10th, 2009 at 2:38 pm

It appears Arod has dropped using PED’s and moved on to MED’s (Melanin Enhancing Drugs).

He looks like my fingers after I eat a bag of Cheeto’s.

  8. kd February 10th, 2009 at 2:39 pm

i agree with sj, let’s talk baseball.

if the yankees magically had $10 million to spend on remaining free agents, who would you want and why?

i’d go with juan cruz and orlando hudson.

if abreu might sign for $4 mill, those two could be had for $10 total

You have defended selena roberts at every turn and in almost every post you have made including in the comment sections. I dont know why now that you posted the interview with her you dont want to make a comment. I think just about everyone in here knows your feelings on the matter. I do want to listen to that interview when i get a chance but i doubt it will change the way i feel about her. If she was not writing an entire book about why arod is a miserable person maybe I would see her as a responsible and objective journalist despite her involvement in the duke lacrosse team case and arod’s comments about feeling like she is stalking him.

But the book coupled with the fact that there is very little reason to believe the methods used to uncover this stuff was legal really puts her in a bad light IMO. And you follow that up with the fact that not only did she somehow get access to info in sealed government documents but she only revealed one name on a list of 104 and it just happens to be the player she is writing a book about all strikes me as a little odd. I dont see how reporters can say that yankee fans only have issue with selena because it is arod when there are so many other issues with her. Of course, the reason it is yankee fans who are angry with her and not another group is because she is targeting a yankee but I dont think there would be such scorn if this gave off the appearance of being a clean, objectives report by a smart, savvy reporter. That just does NOT appear to be the case this time around.

What’s up with the pink lipstick?!?!?!??!???

  11. rodg12 February 10th, 2009 at 2:42 pm

Gotta be careful posting this kind of stuff when you do video blogs yourself Pete….I’m just sayin’

  12. John February 10th, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Does anyone know if the Yankees continue to have public practices after the spring training games have started? Thanks.

  13. Christina February 10th, 2009 at 2:45 pm

He needs to slow down on the tanning.

  14. Hew February 10th, 2009 at 2:46 pm

it’s pretty simple pete. You are entitled to your opinion on Alex Rodriguez and people are entitled to their opinion on you. Doesn’t mean you should get salty because people disagree with you and put up sarcastic disclaimers.

  15. G. Love February 10th, 2009 at 2:47 pm

I do have to admit that I am a bit annoyed at the press for the wagon circling that has gone on for Miss Roberts.

I don’t think she’s Satan or anything, but I don’t believe for a second that every journalist out there approves of her methods.

It’s a bit like I’m sure some of the players in MLB don’t approve of their peers use of PED’s.

I’ve seen Miss Roberts interviewed a few times now and she comes off almost as disingenious and shady as many of the ballplayers in this mess.

  16. saucY February 10th, 2009 at 2:53 pm

“ARod def looked like an offspring of an umpa-lumpa”

    beat me to it.

though, i’ve actually seen ARod in the same room as an oompa loompa and it’s not really as close when they’re next to each other…

  17. TJ February 10th, 2009 at 2:54 pm

Yeah……I’m with you….why is he wearing Madonna’s lipstick??
She dumped him for stealing her cosmetics!

  18. Tom February 10th, 2009 at 2:58 pm

    I A-rod an oompa loompa?

    oops. Great minds?

    Tanning towels?

  21. Pancake Pete February 10th, 2009 at 3:12 pm

    rodg12,

I commented on Pete’s appearance in his video, but it mysteriously disappeared moments later. Hypocrisy incarnate.

  22. Christina February 10th, 2009 at 3:13 pm

    The similarities are astounding.

  23. Psyluk February 10th, 2009 at 3:29 pm

Yankees fans should be circling the wagons around A-Rod the same way the press has been circling the wagons around Selena Roberts. People protect their own. As Yankees fans, we should show strong support for A-Rod and hopes he does well this season.

People might not like what he did (myself included) and think that he’s a lout for lying, but he’s our lout nonetheless. Not to mention that he’s our lout for 9 more years. He made a stupid mistake and fessed up to it like no superstar in baseball has. It’s baseball time. There’s spring training and a long regular season ahead.

It’s time to circle the wagons.

  24. G. Love February 10th, 2009 at 3:38 pm

    Psyluk,

As a longtime Arod fan who has defended him constantly, I respectfully disagree.

Some of us really don’t like the lying and the continued lying and he’s going to have to earn us back.

I’m not going to boo him. I never have.

But I’m also not going to say it’s time to forgive him. I just found out about this Saturday and something tells me there is much more to this story than what we’ve already been told.

I don’t want to say, he’s forgiven and it’s time to move on and then find out next week he was using in Seattle and NY.

I’ll take my time to totally wipe the slate clean with him. Right now, he just has to show up and perform.

The rest will work itself out.

  25. Jeremy February 10th, 2009 at 3:38 pm

ARod went a little crazy with the bronzer on his last trip.

Pete, the sarcastic disclaimer rubs people the wrong way. Anyone should be able to see this is a funny post. Meanwhile, the other posts you wrote about ARod deserved the criticism they got.

  26. Jorge (México) February 10th, 2009 at 3:44 pm

“This post is intended to be amusing and should in no way be construed as an attack on Alex Rodriguez. We at the LoHud Yankee Blog wish Alex well in his endeavors.”

    ===========================================================

Is this just another sarcastic comment? Because, frankly, I have my doubts about its sincerity

  27. Jeremy February 10th, 2009 at 3:44 pm

    G. Love sums it up pretty well for me.

I have written lots of comments defending ARod from fans saying he hurts the team, always chokes under pressure, is too selfish, not a real Yankee, and so on. I’ve always thought he’s one of the best players in baseball, he plays for us, and none of his personality flaws is baseball-related.

Whoops, guess I was wrong about the last part. He was dumb and self-centered enough to cheat and lie about it.

Fact is though, he’s still one of the best players in baseball and he still plays for us. The idiots saying we should find a way to void his contract never come up with a plan for replacing him. They can’t. ARod is as replaceable as Pujols.

I hope the time of people taking sides on ARod is over. Let’s just enjoy the wins he brings us and grit our teeth through everything else.

  28. Bryan V February 10th, 2009 at 3:45 pm

Yes. He did have a strange tan.

  29. Jeremy February 10th, 2009 at 3:51 pm

    Patrick,

I’ve read this blog long enough to see that Pete’s posts and comments about ARod always follow the same cycle:

    1. Write a post that is unnecessarily critical of ARod (challenging him to come clean about his PED use and then criticizing him for doing just that), antagonistic toward Yankee fans (calling ARod “your boy”), or just plain misleading (abusing stats to “prove” ARod benefited from PED use while in Texas).

    2. Feign astonishment that the above posts touched a nerve in a readership mostly comprised of Yankee fans. Say people getting upset about these posts need to lighten up.

    3. Deny having any animosity toward ARod and imply anyone thinking otherwise is nuts.

  30. Patrick February 10th, 2009 at 4:08 pm

    Jeremy,

    4. Delete any posts that call Pete out for being biased.

That’s really pathetic Pete, I love your blog but if you are going to delete any posts that have a different opinion than yours then I can’t visit here any longer. Bye.

  31. gdamac February 10th, 2009 at 4:14 pm

He looks like he’s wearing bronze toner and like he hasn’t slept in days. I am more worried about a Latino that feels he needs bronze toner than I am steroids, sorry.

  32. Pancake Pete February 10th, 2009 at 4:25 pm

Posts here are definitely screened and deleted for content other than what’s described in the reply disclaimer and Terms of Service. I don’t know if Pancake Pete is the screener/deleter, but a number of my posts vanish — Giambi vs A-Rod posts especially.

  33. Pancake Pete February 10th, 2009 at 4:36 pm

I said that A-Rod looks better than Giambi and Selena Roberts and Pete himself. That post disappeared.

  34. Pete Deleter February 10th, 2009 at 5:27 pm

Peter the Deleter strikes again. More sensitive than A-Rod.

  35. Anthony February 10th, 2009 at 5:42 pm

Yep, he just deleted my post. Big brother is watching!

  36. Amandla February 10th, 2009 at 5:56 pm

Here’s an idea. Go find another blog.

  37. Patrick February 10th, 2009 at 6:33 pm

Well I guess I was lying that I’m going to stop posting here. THis is easily the best Yankees blog on the internet. It is a bit troubling though that Pete deleted my post. At the very least I’d expect an email or something explaining why it was necessary to delete it. I didn’t curse or anything although I was a bit harsh towards Peter.

  38. JohnBlacksox February 10th, 2009 at 8:59 pm

That picture is hilarious! I got a great belly laugh out of that one.

Pete has the best Yankee blog, bar none. Just look at the comments.

If you don’t like Lohud feel free to leave and suffer through the drivel on Bronx Banter, along with the 5 other people who post their fascinating take on what’s better, waffles or pancakes.

  39. GMAN February 10th, 2009 at 10:06 pm

    It all fair game folks…

Anybody that’s been a loyal follower of Pete’s blog..which is by far the very best on the interweb…knows that Pete has a tremendous respect for A-Rod’s ability as a player that is equally matched for his lack of respect for A-Rod’s …many personal faults.

There is definately a personality conflict between Pete and Alex.

Pete never hesitates to laud Alex for his on-field acheivements …..but Pete also never ever resists any opportunity to put Alex in a bad light…for his off-field personal short-comings.

See today’s comical clown like picture and recent play by play on the various Madonna/A-Rod hook-ups…let’s not forget last seasons blogsploitation pic’s of Alex escorting a dancer to a hotel room.

A-Rod life…his batting average on and off the field…drives media traffic. That’s the bottom line.

  40. pat February 10th, 2009 at 11:19 pm

lol yea when I was at work and opened espn right after I heard he admitted it the first thing I said was “Damn he’s orange”

  41. bodhisattva February 10th, 2009 at 11:37 pm

I think the Yankees need to seriously consider signing Manny Ramirez.
I’m guessing it will be business as usual, and that eventually Rodriguez will be performing up to standards.
But there would be no greater insurance policy than adding this tremendous hitter, who remains on the market.
His presence, and his kookiness, would also absorb attention and give Rodriguez some breathing room.
And rumor has it they are chums.

  42. jimmy1138 February 11th, 2009 at 2:19 am

Okay, now I got it. Obviously those guys just photographed their TV set and it was badly adjusted or bad light. In the original video he’s not “orange” at all.
