  2. S.A.-The 2009 MLB season is almost here

    CC!!!
    Exciting

  3. jennifer

Well at least they gave the locker to CC, not some scrub. :)

  4. Rich I.

Does he have a picture of a window?

  5. Chewie

How come Moose never won 20 games when Posada was catching him?

Maybe limiting Posada’s games this year will be good for the pitchers.

  6. Russell NY

“How come Moose never won 20 games when Posada was catching him? ”

Because Moose’s SLOWWWWW pitches combined with Posada’s SLOWWWWW throws to 2nd there were a lot of runners in scoring position.

Even Ivan Rodriguez, the King of Calling Fastballs didnt have enough time lol

  7. Tint

    RIP Moose

  8. Bronx Jeers

CC next to Joba? That’s 500 lbs + of Yankee hope right there.

Good to hear Joe survived day 1 relatively unscathed and on the right foot.

  9. Chris from NJ

Can’t wait to see the rotation in action this season!!

  10. SJ44

First 6 questions from the media for CC:

    1. What do you think of Arod?
    2. Will you become “emotionally scarred” as George King of the Post seems to think, by answering questions about Arod?
    3. CC, tell me, what do you think of Arod?
    4. CC, has anybody asked you yet what you think of Arod?
    5. Is your name on the “list”?
    6. How do you like all these baseball questions?

  11. jennifer

SJ- You forgot the how thick do you think Arods skin is.

Um Mike also relearned how to pitch. He wasn’t afraid of pitching inside.

  12. Andrew

    7. Do you wish that you signed with a West Coast team yet?

  13. S.A.-The 2009 MLB season is almost here

    8. What did you have for breakfast this morning CC?

  14. miggs

    8. Counting the days til you can exercise that opt-out clause?

  15. miggs

    oops.

    9

  16. SJ44

This is a fun exercise. We should list the likely questions he gets today.

When Pete comes back with sound, we can find out how close we all came to guessing the questions! lol

  17. Patrick

Any reporter that asks CC about A-rod is dumber than a bag of hammers. CC is new to the team, he probably doesn’t even know A-rod that well. I mean, what do they expect him to say about A-rod? It’s a wasted question.

  18. Jeremy

“Any reporter that asks CC about A-rod is dumber than a bag of hammers.”

Smart reporters will ask CC (and many other players) plenty of stupid ARod questions because they are hoping for someone to share his opinion about ARod. That would be worth at least a column.

  19. jennifer

Patrick- I’ll bet you they will ask CC at least 5 questions about Alex.

*And the values of the fathers are (oftentimes) visited upon the children…*

(One of my dad’s huge no-nos had to do with lying. We were always told that if my father caught us in a lie, we’d “get it” twice – once for whatever we did wrong, and once for lying about it! I seriously think it took. I have 5 siblings and I can say we are all pretty forthright people who believe in walking the straight and narrow.)

Because it has a Yankee angle I think this is noteworthy. It may have been mentioned yesterday so if it was I apologize. The majority of Clemens’ defamation of character lawsuit against MacNamee has been dismissed by a federal judge in Houston.

I am dancing in the streets. To me this is something to celebrate because other than Barry Bonds I can’t think of a player with more hubris than Clemens and less inclination to tell the truth.

    *********************

Someone mentioned that steroids are not shown to do much in terms of helping a player to hit better (something like that). I question that seriously since we all know that players like Brady Anderson and Luis Gonzalez had extremely aberrant years in terms of hitting home runs. Unless the person who made the statement is saying that the strength in their legs helped them to plant themselves in such a way that they were able to use total upper-body strength, it doesn’t make any sense.

  22. Steve B

    “It’s a wasted question.”

No way!!! Reporters don’t waste questions!

CC may need to go to school on Derek Jeter’s Big Book of Mindnumbing Responses for the next week or so.

    Stay tuned…

    :D

  25. rodg12

    trisha -
By that logic you have to believe Maris was on the juice. Careers years hitting homers happen. They’ve happened since the beginning of baseball.

  26. Patrick

“I’ll bet you they will ask CC at least 5 questions about Alex.”

Yeah and they will all be pointless. What kind of insight can Sabathia possibly give about A-rod? He will just answer generic stuff like “Its a tough situation, the team is supporting him. I just want to play baseball and put it behind us.”

“Smart reporters will ask CC (and many other players) plenty of stupid ARod questions”

Reporters that ask stupid questions are not, in fact, “smart”.

  27. Jeremy

    Guess the questions continued:

What do you think of the new stadium?
How much pressure do you feel to be the ace of this staff?
How much pressure do you feel to get this team to the playoffs?

  28. Rishi

Anybody wondering about “career years” should read the K Law chat transcript – won’t repost, but there are definitely things to learn…

rodg – Did ya SEE Brady Anderson’s stats?????

    Uh, this is pretty different.

Pretty cool that 62% of the respondents believe Clemens should go to jail. They must all be relatives of mine.

Rodg maybe not seroids in that era. Maybe greenies? Who knows.

  31. SJ44

I was talking to somebody last night, a longtime baseball person, who was telling me just how disgusted he is with the game these days.

Its not about players using PED’s. As he said to me, “that’s been going on in some form or another for 100 years. I played with guys who couldn’t go out in the field unless they were jacked on greenies”.

His frustration is how “tone deaf” (his words) MLB is on EVERYTHING.

“They eat their own (the players)”, he said to me. “Hey Alex may not be the most well liked player out there. But, where is the outrage about his results being leaked? Last I checked, that’s a crime”?

When have you ever heard Roger Goodell (NFL Commissioner) rip one of his players the way Selig did Arod yesterday”? Has Pacman Jones shamed the game? You can say he did. Yet, Goodell would never put out a self serving press release as Selig did yesterday. He knows the players are the engine that sells his game”.

On the business side, we talked about the vote going on today down here (South Florida) on the Marlins new stadium.

“Our country is on the brink of economic collapse. Yet, Dade County and the City of Miami are ready to give the Marlins 615 million dollars of taxpayer money to build a stadium in the worst part of Miami. Giving one of the worst owners in baseball 615 million dollars in taxpayer money. I just don’t get it”.

This is a guy who played in the majors for 20 years, coached and was a broadcaster. Was as down as I’ve ever seen him because of the lack of leadership in the game.

  32. trisha - want the truth? Read Canseco's book

SJ, that’s the killer in this whole thing and the thing that can kill your soul. The “purity” of America’s pasttime was absolutely sacrificed for the profit motive of MLB. The most ludricrous statement I’ve heard made in the past several days is that Bud Selig has been trying to do something about this for the past decade. My rear end he has.

  33. Steve B

“His frustration is how “tone deaf” (his words) MLB is on EVERYTHING.”

Some truth, but they aren’t half as tone deaf as the MLBPA is about everything. You keep coming back to Selig. He’s not been at all effective in addressing this issue in particular, but as I said yesterday, he has exceedingly limited power to do so. MLBPA and the players hold the lionshare of the power and have been using it to do all they can to avoid testing keep the world in the dark on the whole issue.

  34. Steve B

“AND keep the world in the dark…”

  35. trisha - want the truth? Read Canseco's book

Steve B I definitely have to agree with you there. When I talk about MLB and I am also talking the players’ union. But you are right that they are at loggerheads with the administration of MLB. Still they’re all complicit in my eyes.

  36. Garym(Yanks and More)

Big boys in the house, can’t wait to hear what CC has to say, where is AJ?

  37. Patrick

“This is a guy who played in the majors for 20 years, coached and was a broadcaster.”

    My guess is… Buck Martinez

  38. trisha - want the truth? Read Canseco's book

Garym, do you realize your link doesn’t go to your website?

What time will your chat start tonight? Hopefully I will be able to join in.

Here’s the thing about the Union….

    They know what’s going on.

This is all about union busting. This isn’t about “saving the game”. Its about breaking the Union.

The owners, through Selig, see an opportunity here and they are taking their shot.

It was the PLAYERS, not the owners, who agreed to re-open the CBA and submit to the provisional testing program.

They were under no legal obligation to do so. None.

What could Congress do? Nothing but make noise.

Take away the owners antitrust exemption because they wouldn’t re-open the CBA? Sounds nice. They can’t do it.

Even if they tried, that hurts the owners more than the players.

The players re-opened and agreed to the testing program. Against I might add, the wishes of many members of their membership because they had no trust the results would stay confidential.

    Guess what? They were right.

The Union isn’t blameless here. They, like the owners, wanted to sweep a lot of this under the rug.

However, they aren’t the only “bad guy” in the play.

‘Ol Buddy Boy is front and center as to what’s wrong with the game right now.

Not just on the PED issue. Its with EVERYTHING.

At the Super Bowl this year, the NFL announced a league-wide program to get their teams to designate “affordable seat” sections in their stadiums due to the economy.

They are also manadating teams put together more favorable payment programs so season ticketholders can pay for their seats.

There is no such plan in MLB. None. Why hasn’t Selig taken the lead and instructed his teams to do the same thing?

If nothing else, its positive PR.

    Nope. Nothing.

You do wonder when the appetite of regular fans to the way MLB does business will reach a point where they say, “bye bye”.

Its already happened with casual fans. The last 3 World Series are the least watched World Series in the history of television. That’s a bad, bad trend.

But hey, let’s put those baseball players in jail. Let’s “get’em”. That’s the ticket. That will fix everything. Not.

That’s not the way to get yourself out of this mess.

This sport needs to put itself on Amber Alert because its completely lost.

  40. Glenn

Life moves on. Mussina retired. His old locker at Steinbrenner Field will not be a shrine. Out of repect, hold out issuance of No. 35 for one year and one year only.
The majority of the media will ask their silly, pointless questions to Sabathia most of which were answered at his introductory press conference. At some point in spring training he can find peace and go about his work.

  41. Steve B

“This is all about union busting. This isn’t about “saving the game”. Its about breaking the Union.”

This would bother me if I thought the Union was at all about saving the game. It isn’t. It’s about money grubbing and getting away with what they can.

  42. Hola

One can certainly argue the merits of taxpayer $ funding the Marlins stadium and the idiot team ownership.

But just to clarify, no way is the Orange Bowl site in the worst part of Miami. The surrounding area is a perfectly decent (lower?)middle class neighborhood.

The old Miami Stadium where the Orioles had a minor league team & used to have spring training – that’s a rough area.

  43. Patrick

“This would bother me if I thought the Union was at all about saving the game. It isn’t. It’s about money grubbing and getting away with what they can. ”

Exactly. To be quite honest, Selig and the owners SHOULD bust the players union. It serves no useful purpose as far as I’m concerned.

  44. Tarheelyank

“This would bother me if I thought the Union was at all about saving the game. It isn’t. It’s about money grubbing and getting away with what they can. ”

Two examples of people who have never been in a union.

  45. pat

The union, by definition, is there to protect the players not the game. No different than any other union.

That reminds me of when people say Boras is killing baseball. What’s good for baseball is not Boras job, getting players the best deal he can is.

  46. Patrick

“Two examples of people who have never been in a union.”

I am proud of that fact. In most cases in today’s world union’s hurt more than they help.

“The union, by definition, is there to protect the players not the game.”

Which would be a good thing if the players needed protection. They don’t.

  47. Mike

Pete. please take some pictures !! So exciting !
