That’s dedication

David Robertson got married on Jan. 30. He and his wife went to Disney World for a week.

Robertson bailed on his honeymoon several times to drive to Tampa and throw bullpens.

“She understood,” he said. “I want to make the team.”

  2. KGsturnz0r217

i Had an inkling he’d make it, now I want him to Make the 25

  3. jennifer

I would think she would understand. It would be a difference between making maybe 50 grand to 400 grand. Heck I’d have a honeymoon in Tampa at George’s hotel.

  4. Patrick

Hmmm I don’t think he will make the roster out of spring but he will definitely spend some time in the majors this year.

  5. Jeremy

Patrick, agreed. Robertson is one of many promising candidates for the pen who can be subbed in if anyone struggles or gets hurt.

  6. Observer283

As an engaged man, I can say that his new wife is…uncommon. (I’m pretty sure my blackberry would end up in the Caribbean if I even looked at it during our upcoming honeymoon). But I think you nailed it Jennifer. The difference between a ML salary and a AAA one is quite large.

  11. 2009 Yankees

If only the Yankees would let me know what’s going on with my 15 game plan, then I’d know where I am sitting too!

  12. Garym(Yanks and More)

Wow that is great, what a great wife she is. I love that out of a player but yes the salary difference is huge.

  13. Bronx Jeers

No man (or woman) should get married at 23 but you got to love his determination. 36 K’s in 30 inn? He’s got something!

  14. rbj

Yup Jennifer, you, ah, nailed it.

.. is looking for a non-roster invite to spring training. It’s been rumored that at some point in his career he took PED’s.. but everyone has their doubts. Reporter Asked Bud Selig his thoughts after Paul hit a 900FT HR.. and Mr. Selig replied, “He has natural ability”

“Pete, Get us some pics of players.”

If Pete’s camera doesn’t have zoom then it definitely doesn’t have panorama!

  21. jennifer

    Just a quick question.

This dude Elijah Cummings, was he the same one who was kissing Rogers butt?

  22. jennifer

Cancel my above question- just googled (duh should have done so before) wasn’t him.

  23. Bronx Jeers

“This dude Elijah Cummings, was he the same one who was kissing Rogers butt?”

No. He’s a Democrat. Here is a passage related to Cummings’ line of questioning

“If I walked in here,” Cummings told Clemens, “and it was even Steven, you and Mr. McNamee, I must admit that the person I believe most & is Mr. Pettitte. When Mr. McNamee gave his testimony about Knoblauch and Pettitte, those allegations turned out to be true,” Cummings went on. “But for some reason, … when it comes to you, it’s a whole ‘nother thing. … How do you explain this?”

Clemens then insisted one more time that Pettitte had “misheard” him. Cummings wasn’t buying it.

“I’ve listened to you very carefully,” Cummings said. “And I take you at your word. And you’re telling me that Andy Pettitte is an honest man, and his credibility is pretty much impeccable. … You said you were misunderstood. But all I’m saying is, it’s hard to believe. It’s hard to believe your story.

“I hate to say that. You’re one of my heroes. But it’s hard to believe you.”

  24. RER - 98

Good to see the enthusiasm of David Robertson wanting to make the team but there is a group of relief arms in camp this year unlike any in recent years. Some real bonafide competition and little margin for error especially in the later exhibition games. There might be 4 spots secured with 3 up for grabs.
Scranton / Wilkes-Barre will start the year with an excellent pitching staff.

  25. Trevor

The Republicans where the ones kissing Clemens a$$. Elijah Cummimgs and the rest of the Democrats grilled him.

  26. AROD fan

Did he work out before honeymoon too, or just during?

  27. Rebecca-Optimist Prime...Staying to Write the Story

    Good luck Dave!

  28. Axel

    Lost in Tex-is,
Thanks for the heads up on the seat selecter/viewer…it is great!

I’m surprised they still have A-Rod advertised on the mega-tron in centerfield though.

  29. Jeterboy

    Pencil him in

  30. AROD fan

Is candy allowed in the clubhouse this season?

  31. AROD fan

Question 16: what do u think @ signing manny ramirez?

  32. TGFizeek

Gotta root for this guy now. He has stuff, this proves he has the work ethic. That baby face makes me wonder if he has the make-up but I think I have a new guy to pull for.

Am I a homer or does it seem like the Yankees aren’t getting credit for their bullpen depth this year? Mo, Bruney, Marte, Veras and mix in some of the young guys, Robertson, Melancon, Aceves, Alanbadejo and maybe Coke.

  33. Bronx Jeers

Speaking of the pen, I think what to with Phil Coke is an interesting dilemma.

On one hand should he be allowed to develop as a LH starter?

On the other hand, it it is hard to ignore his Joba-like month coming out of the pen.

  34. Tarheelyank

17 CC how much of a distraction are all these stupid questions?

  35. gmen21

Good to see a supportive wife giving up her husband on their honeymoon to fulfill his dream.

Nice post. Will be rooting for him.

  36. TheChuckKnoblog

Good luck to him. Making the team and with his wife.

  37. Januz

I have read Robertson’s story before. He did not exactly grow up with a silver spoon in his mouth (His father picked industrial flowers for a living). Everything he has, is because of Damon Oppenheimer and the Yankee Scouts, who sent him to the Cape Cod League, after they drafted him in the 17th Round. He had a major league type curve, that they had him start throwing again, after the University of Alabama made him shut it down (He even met his wife there). Because of this, BOTH he and his wife understand the opportunity the Yankee Organization gave them, and thus, will make the sacrifices necessary to justify their faith in him.

  38. Beudlde

    Januz,

His wife was raised and went to school just outside Boston. She WAS a Sox fan. But is no longer. I got to go to the wedding actually. Great time.
