Big day for Brackman

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Feb 15, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Here are the groups of pitchers in the bullpen today:

1: Aceves, Hughes, Pettitte, Wang

2: Coke, Marte, Ramirez, Tomko

3: Brackman, Jackson, Melancon

4: Claggett, De La Rosa, Hacker, Texeira

This will be the first time Brackman will be able to show the Yankees what he can do. He was rehabbing while in camp last season and never threw off the mound. Since being picked in the first round in 2007, he has thrown only 31.2 innings. Those came in the Hawaiian Winter League last fall.

“Today is a big day for me,” he said. “I just need to get out there and pitch.”

Brackman was 270 when he came to camp last year. He is 232 now.

Brackman should be fun to watch, is Hughes still rocking the glasses

It’s really awesome hearing about the dedication of guys like Brackman and Bruney. It’s pretty obvious that these guys are 110% dedicated to doing whatever it takes to take their game to the next level. Hopefully everything comes to fruition for them this season.

Do you think that Brackman will have any kind of effect on the yankees success this year? Our rotation is pretty set, and phil hughes is a back up. So would he get a chance in the bullpen, hopefully, along with melancon?

Brackman won’t have a chance of sniffing the majors until 2010 at the earliest. A Joba-like meteoric rise through the minors seems impossible with him because he’s still trying to find his control and touch, since that’s usually the last thing that comes back after TJ surgery. If he posts crazy BB/K strikeout ratios and dominates then maybe he makes it up to AA before the year is over. Still, 2010 at the earliest for the Bronx.

I keep on seeing the Yankees depth in young pitchers and the Dodgers huge hole in starting pitching with depth in the outfield (once they sign Manny). Could a Kemp trade still be in the works (for Nady or Melky/Jackson and two of: Hughes/Brackman/Melancon/Aceves?

if brackman is absolutely lights out in AA or AAA he might get a shot at some point this year but he needs to pitch well against competition & get noticed the way joba, hughes, kennedy did.

it can happen quickly like it did with joba.there were also a lot of questions with joba but when a pitcher pitches as well as joba did at every stop there will come a time when his name is called.

you can sit here & say one year, two years but nobody knows until he pitches.brackman is old enough where if he pitches great he will be brought up.

wether it be spot starting or bullpen if he pitches well brackman’s time will come.

Losing 40 pounds is impressive! Good for him. Cant wait to see Brackman pitch.

I completely agree with Bru. Its impossible to say this player will come up at this date at the earliest. You never know until you see how the are doing against their competition this year.

Why is Texeira in the bullpen? Are we moving him to P and Sabathia to 1B?

No way Brackman gets anywhere near the majors this year. He has major issues with his control and presumably repeating his delivery. He is incredibly raw.

That Texeira would be the one obtained from (I believe) the Nick Swisher trade, not Mark.

    BRACKMAN!

I have high hopes for this kid. Hopefully he pans out.
