Mariano Rivera knows the end is coming for him. But it won’t be this season, he said.

Jorge Posada plans to catch more games than the Yankees think he will. This notebook also has an update on Hideki Matsui and other tidbits from the first workout.

Workouts are a little later on Sunday. They’ll be on the field around 11 or so.

Bob Sheppard was on WFAN with Ed Randell this morning. Said he was down to 103 pounds, and his doctors wouldn’t let him return to work until he was at 145 pounds and had stamina. Today, he says he’s at 145 1/2 and has two months to work on the stamina.

    He sounded optimistic!

That is good news. Wow – 103 pounds. Scary.

    Pete-

Good article on Mariano. He is, indeed, irreplaceable.

Unless injuries get him, I think Rivera has a few more years left. He still looks good out there on the field.

“…..because of a bone spur on top of his collarbone.”

I may be wrong, but all this talk has been about ’shoulder surgery’. I don’t think it is an apt term if we on talking about a bone spur on his collar bone. Shoulder surgery usually has terrible connotations, usually meaning structural damage that directly affects how you throw. A collarbone bone spur is no fun… but am I wrong in thinking this is NOT near as bad as what we think about when we hear ’shoulder surgery’?????

Mo will pitch for the next 1000 years.
